I ask because I spoke to a friend who told me she has fantasized about John and Molly, and it made me laugh but got me wondering if this is a "thing"?  I have never heard it.

Ways it would work:

They are both good, solid, down to earth people

Both work in medical profession

Both adore Sherlock

Both have a sense of adventure

Both very loyal

Seem kind of bland actually but maybe they could light a spark in one another?

Ways it would not work:

Molly's too boring for John?

John would always be outshined by Sherlock?

I don't know.

Sherlock's reaction:

Would he love it?  Feel jealous?  Roll his eyes and wait for the break up?

I wonder why John never seemed to notice Molly (I mean back before Mary came along, John seemed to ask out a lot of women.  I mean Molly's not flashy but she is no slouch either)

If canon is followed Mary will eventually leave the picture one way or another so John could be available again... What are your thoughts?  Would they work or wouldn't they?

Sufferin' succotash! No, the thought never occurred to me, but then it wouldn't -- not how my mind works. But, no, I don't see any chemistry between them.

I haven't noticed any chemistry between them yet, either.  ;)

I'm not a John / Molly shipper, but I have pondered the possibility, and in fact ran across one really sweet little story about them -- platonic, but who knows where it might lead?

Oh wow, that was really very nice.  Awww.  I can see it now lol.

I never saw any chemistry between them either.  Then again I can't even remember a time when they speak to each other.  I mean I remember them being in the same room / scenes together but have they ever really interacted much?

Can't think that they have, no. They've certainly been in the same room often enough, but I'm struggling to recall any conversations between them, and coming up empty so far.  Molly responded to John's question "Is he clean?" in "Last Vow," but she directed it more at Sherlock (right before she slapped him).  John responded to Molly's appearance at the Christmas party in "Scandal," but his exclamation was not actually addressed to her.

Can anybody think of a better example?

The only instance that comes to mind at the moment is in TGG when Jim comes in, Molly makes introductions, and she can't remember John's name. Not much interaction there!

Right, and John supplies his name.  But you're right, all of that was said to Jim -- no direct interaction between John & Molly at all.

Did they say anything to each other in that little party at the end of "Empty Hearse"?

I think someone asked Molly if she wanted a drink, but I don't think it was John.... he was too busy goggling at Tom.

I see way more chemistry between Molly and Lestrade then Molly and John. I can't think of a time when they even hardly acknowledge each other. Molly is to hung up on Sherlock, I suppose and John does react to that Christmas kiss and apology pretty strongly. Like it's the only time he has ever seen Sherlock apologize to any one....ever. And he does notice how Tom is almost a dead ringer for Sherlock.

I think John and Molly could be friends. She runs deeper then anyone realizes. And she likes having fun. Doesn't seem to be John's type when compared to Sarah, Mary, Dr. Mortimer and...the teacher....

No.. Don't see Molly & Watson. If homegirl wants to win Sherlocks heart or John's... She probably should stop wearing giant bobbles & bows in her hair. Actually her hair is a mess most the time.

Your hair makes your face.

I hadn't thought of that but I think I might be if I were him.

Yes, you'd think at some point they must have interacted and she must have out and out deceived him.   Mrs. Hudson too...Lestrade...It would have been interesting if they had addressed that.  She must feel some guilt for that.

Ah yes, just one of the several things I wish they'd had time to address in TEH. It's a wonderfully heartfelt episode, but there is just so much left unresolved from Reichenbach.

Molly and John? I love them both, really, really love them, but I can't imagine them together... I would be onboard with Molly/Lestrade, I think, if the writers went in that direction, but it's not particularly important to me. I do hope, though, that Molly will find someone who appreciates her as much as she deserves.

If John should become single again at some point, I kind of hope he remains that way.... Hm. Poor John :) If it was up to me, he'd be a victim to my selfish wish to see him and Sherlock solving crimes together forever and ever, no wife or child involved. Luckily, I don't get to decide that!

But that is what we get in the originals....no matter how many times John Watson was married.....or not....the reader got the best bits of any outside relationship.....we get the meat and the heart of it....we get the mystery and adventure. We get Holmes and Watson and if Mofftiss stick to that formula...then it's all good.

I can live with that. Not sure how to feel about the kid, though... I mean, I could easily imagine Sherlock being around a child, but I'm thinking it will be too cute.

I don't mind a little cute every now and then! I really enjoyed Archie.

In the original Sherlocks homeless network were orphaned children. Probably would be cool once & awhile to give Archie a safe assignment.

If John was hurt that Molly was in on the deception I guess he did forgive her.  Even though we never see them interacting, they were close enough that she was invited to John's wedding...maybe Sherlock never revealed her involvement to anyone, but still it MUST have eaten her up inside. She does have a conscience after all (one assumes).

Oooo. Maybe they'll make Molly a villian... Ooooh she's not as ditsy as she let's on. She's been in cahoots with Moriarty, she knew all along his name wasn't Jim. & now she's televising his face all over England. She want revenge for the demise of her Lover!

Picture I'm posting this in the voice of a 1950's radio horror show announcer/narrator.

I am being facetious.
