Disney / Marvel / whoever apparently has no immediate plans to release that footage to the general public -- conjectures are that they may still be polishing it and/or that they're waiting till closer to the movie's release date.

Numerous attendees have described what they saw, however.  Several mention Freeman, but I've found only one with anything specific:

... Martin Freeman in a room filled with monitors ....

Whatever Freeman's role is, he apparently doesn't have a whole lot of screen time.  A new interview with Amanda Abbington mentions that "right now Freeman has a fairly light load – just the occasional spot of shooting in the US and Germany for the blockbusting Captain America sequel" (so he's able to be home a lot with the kids while she's busy filming two television series).

From the same interview:

Abbington admits she doesn’t even know what part he’s playing. “I don’t really know much about Marvel,” she says. “Joe loves all that stuff, but I ask Martin about it and then I cloud over. I think he’s part of the government – he has to do a lot of stuff into walkie-talkies. He says: ‘I have to order Scarlett Johansson and Robert Downey Jr round all day’....

... so at least we're not the only ones who don't know!

The current rumor (referred to as "facts" on this site, which everyone else seems to be quoting) is that "Martin Freeman plays some sort of interrogator and that he will return to appear in Black Panther."  That author goes on to speculate that "They’re going to use the comic book character of Everett Ross, a US Government agent assigned to Wakanda who grows to become sort of a Wakandan expert.

That author seems to have deduced correctly (nearly ten months ago).  According to Empire, Freeman is indeed playing Everett Ross, but he's apparently on an assignment in Germany this time around.

It seems that I am still unable to post embedded videos, but here's a link to a clip from Mr. Freeman's recent appearance on the Tonight show (which NBC totally failed to give me advance notice of), wherein he and host Jimmy Fallon discuss his costume for Captain America:

Frack, I didn't hear about it either. And I'm disappointed that he's not even acknowledged in the ads for WTF. Maybe he needs a more pro-active agent? Or are these parts just that small? :(

Guess I'll find out....

Thanks, Arcadia!  I ran across that last night, but wasn't sure what it was and was too tired to find out.

Regarding your comment about the absence of Freeman in the ads, I assume you're talking about TV ads?  I haven't seen any of those, but I did run across a poster online last night, which of course I cannot find now.  In any case, it was a nice three-shot of him with the two female leads, and he's got third billing.  Would be interesting to see if there's more Freeman in TV ads they run in the UK.

Posted

I've seen two different TV ads for WTF, they just barely show his face in both of them and they only mention Tina Fey. He's not pictured or mentioned at all in the Capt. America trailer that I can tell.

:(

I can understand his not being mentioned in the CA ads, since his role in this one is reportedly kinda minimal.  And as for WTF, I suppose that ads shown on American TV would focus more on Tina Fey, since she's well known on American TV.

And here's a link to the poster I mentioned.

Yeah, I guess mentioning "Martin Freeman, star of The Hobbit" wouldn't attract very much attention. :p

Have they mentioned the rating for this movie?

In some circles it'd attract tons of attention, not so much in others. Depends on what audience they're targeting, I guess.

Have they mentioned the rating for this movie?

According to IMDb, it's "Rated R for pervasive language, some sexual content, drug use and violent war images," and in the UK it's a 15.

Yeah, I figured. :(

Yesterday as I saw 'Deadpool' in the cinema (which I first was not sure if I would like it as I didn't actually see Ryan Reynolds in any (for me) convincing role yet I'm afraid....but this time it was really the deal for him in my opinion, been perfect in the part, so thumbs up! Also, it's rather a film of the Marvel Universe that is not really connected with such as the Avengers apart from the - I guess junkyard- helicarrier in the end, but rather X-men, just more like the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' is related with the Avengers, according to the soundtrack and weird outfits ), I also saw the first trailer for 'Civil War'.  I watched out for Martin, but no, no glimpse of him :( .

I saw the first two Captain America films, not because Cap is my fave (which he is not, I am rather a fan of the Black Widow and Hawkeye; Iron Man is fun like the Hulk is too (but only the Mark Ruffalo-one, Edward Norton is kinda not the best choice as Marvel hero, I liked him more in films such as 'Fight Club' or 'Red Dragon'), and who does not love Loki? :P ), but because its part of the Avengers films and it has Scarlett Johannson in it - so I am very pleased to hear that Martin Freeman makes the third one an even more interesting film to look forward to...and I will see it in the theatre, I just watched the others on DVD. :bouncy:

And I agree, I don't really care who he plays, the main thing is THAT he is in it. haha....(and the idea of him as Captain America is hilarious :lol2: )

Also, as the discussion came up about Star Trek here, too - actually I saw a couple of Star Trek films before (funny I thought that the best was the one that was about Khan, because he was an interesting character, and I had to laugh when I saw the new version of him, because the 'old' Khan looked so ridiculous, especially the hair!!! and Benedict looking so...well, erm...gooood   as Khan, haha... ) and liked the Voyager-Universe, but I have been one of the people who wanted to see it because Benedict is in it  :P  - and like it is with those things I go watch because certain actors are in it - I am looking now forward to the next one that comes out in summer, despite he is not in it. Theres lots of other fun characters though, like Bones and Scotty, so it might be entertaining, at least after seeing the  trailer...

If you saw the same trailer that I did, he may be in it briefly, but if so, he's off to one side in a wide shot, so not highly visible.  Just look for the suit!  ;)

Am I the first one who saw the film? :D

It's like three scenes where Martin is in, in the middle of the film, and one time shortly in the end talking to our german 'baddie' Daniel Brühl. Actually, I am impressed by Daniel Brühl, because if I would not know he's a wellknown german actor (I hardly watch german films and even I know who he is so I suppose he's popular here, haha...), I would not have guessed he is german in the first place (at least as long as he's speaking english, he speaks a few german sentences inbetween) because he speaks quite accent-free, also his performance is awesome. Not often a german actor is appearing this cool in american productions in my opinion. They either have silly accents or there's just always something that 'doesn't fit' somehow, if you kow what I mean. But he was brilliant being a Sokovian in the film and had quite a major role.

Also the locations are not much in Berlin. Sure you see the Siegessäule and the Berliner Dom, but most of it looked just cut in and the scenes were mostly indoors, so I don't think anyone would have noticed they filmed anything there, also my guess is most was shot in Studio Babelsberg in Potsdam anyway. It often looks like they could have shot it anywhere. But there was a long shot on the airport in Leipzig (like 2 hours away from Berlin) obviously, and I don't know if I understood that right but maybe they tried to make it a Berlin airport in the film? Then they should have removed the gangways saying 'Flughafen Halle-Leipzig' ;P...but still a Berliner would have noticed it's not Tegel or Schoenefeld...I was a bit confused about the location jumps all the time I have to admit.

So my chances running accidentally into Martin during shootings would have been like zero, even if I would have been watching out that time. Guess he must go shopping for groceries closeby to make that ever happen. This is not London...

Generally, I loved the film because there were almost all Avengers in it, and guest heros such as Ant Man and Spidey in a young version.

As for Martin, erm, I don't know...the suit and the hair confused me mostly, haha....don't know, usually I think longer hair on a lot of men looks better, but he is defiitely 'short hair guy', the long grey locks make him rather old looking, plus the suit...nah, John Watson look is WAAAAYY better (and the Hobbit, strangely there the longer hair is cool - maybe it's the colour - I somehow always have Richard Gere in mind when I see such grey locks (and the suit), and I don't like Richard Gere much :P - and now I have a weird picture of Martin Freeman in 'Pretty Woman' in my head - HEEEELP! Oh no, make this go away please...baaad head-cinema here now!! )

Doesn't start until Friday over here, but I'm looking forward to it ... even though the title says "Captain America", it looks to me like mostly an Avengers film. That was always one of my favorite comics. I particularly liked Hawkeye.

Hawkeye rocks - he is also in the film, appears a bit late and could have a bit more screen time (because I like him too and he should have maybe even his own films...), but he's fun! (and he has way more screen time and lines than Martin...really, if you would only go to see the film because of Martin Freeman, it's tough! Hardly noticed him, if I would not have particularly watched out! Bit sad, but the last lines he and Daniel Brühl exchanged in the film, made me hope - maybe they will reappear in another film then...? Would be nice! :D I mean, my personal thought was in the end - if they will continue the whole story it must be in the next Avengers film...)

Thor and Hulk were the only ones who did not appear, were only mentioned.

I wish you lots of fun - definitely more an Avengers thing, though Captain America is the main character and the story is mostly around him....

Saw Deadpool lately too.

It was one of my most anticipated movies of 2016 and it was really really cool. (this triple headshot )

Drat, I think I've missed Deadpool.

I will miss neither the Hulk nor Thor, although I like both of the actors that play them. That's really the only reason I tolerate Cap; I like the actor's portrayal. Never could stand him in the comix. Well, that's not fair; he just wasn't a favorite. I mostly like the ones who got to be superheroes by dint of brains and talent, like Stark and Hawkeye. I did like the Vision, though, I want to see what they do with him. Another favorite actor, btw!

Word is that, yes, Freeman's character is merely being introduced in this film, and will have a much larger role later on.

Excellent this sounds, yes....  please more Freeman Avenger film thingies. :watson:  But please get him a haircut first. :P

Arcadia, there's loads of Vision in this one, he's awesome (and in every close up sequence I wonder for how long the actor had been suffering make up! It looks so cool, it must have been an awful lot of work and patience - or was it MoCap? I could not really see how it had been made, it just looked like he was actually born like this. :) )...I liked him already too in the Age of Ultron - this time they explore his character a little more, also Scarlett Witch aka Wanda Maximoff (I am a bit sad her brother is not there anymore, he was funny...) is in there a lot, totally cute in this one. I don't say more cos I don't want write spoilers for those who have not seen it yet.

I just still wonder how Spiderman made it in there, or rather why...writers wanted to start a new plot for another Spidey-Film featuring Iron Man or what? I mean, Ant Man, sure, those who have seen the film know why...but I have to admit, I have not seen all Spiderman flms, only the 1-3 with Tobey MacGuire (hope I spelled that right, don't know exactly, but you know who I mean ;P) and Kirsten Dunst.... :tulip:

I just saw a reference online to a post-credit scene in this movie. I didn't follow up, because I'd rather be surprised. But those of you who typically leave as soon as the credits start to roll might want to stick around this time.

I always stick around, ever since Young Sherlock Holmes.
