So, I was having a look on Amazon this morning, and this is one of the suggestions it had for me.

It is currently out of stock, which is just as well, because I would have bought it otherwise! Such a brilliant idea!

Had anybody seen this before? Does anybody own one? What do you people think? :)

I'd have it just for the sheer hell of it. Mind you, I'm one of those people who doesn't really like monopoly, but when someone gets out the Star Wars version, I'm so there.

With an electronic R2D2 instead of a dice and planets rather than streets. This is the original trilogy game we're talking about btw - never seen the other one. It's the sort of thing that has to be brought along for a holiday with a bunch of geeks for a laugh.

Ohh I'd love to have it and yet I think I'd prefer the version Sherlock impaled on the wall above the fireplace, the Nostalgia Wooden Edition...

Can anyone tell me what is the difference between Cluedo and Clue -- other than a spanner instead of a wrench, of course -- ?

It's still out of stock at Amazon, I see ("We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock") -- and there are NO customer reviews, which makes me wonder whether Amazon has ever actually had it in stock. Could sales be hung up over to a legal issue?

Hmm, the BBC Shop is taking pre-orders, and says it's due for release on 12/11/2012 (which I take to mean November 12). Here's part of their description, "Who killed Moriarty? Was it Mrs. Hudson, in the Tower of London with the Wrench, or Irene Adler, in 221B, with a Candlestick?"

Wait a minute -- Wrench???

Both products are by the same company, however in the UK it was launched as Cluedo while in the US it was launched as Clue.

No difference except in name!

As for that description...sounds like some great fun!

THE GAME IS ON! *laughs*

This reminds me of the conversation between John and myself. "Me: It's either this or Cluedo. John: No, we are never playing that again. Me: Why not? John: Because it's not actually possible for the victim to have done it, Sherlock. That's why. Me: It was the only possible explanation. John: It's not in the rules! Me: Well, then the rules are wrong!" I was going to play it the other day when I realized that I don't have anyone to play it with.

Cluedo has to be played by at least 3 players, hasn't it?

So it unfortunately won't work for me since nobody else in my family is interested in either board games or english..

Actually you can play with two; however it is better with four. (Although I too have no one to play with)

Maybe the two of you can get a virtual game of Cluedo going over in the "Comedy & Games" subforum. If you'd like for others to join you after you have it set up, just come back here & tell us about it.

The BBC Shop finally has Sherlock Cluedo in stock, and you can get a special price and free UK shipping, all day TODAY only (Wednesday, November 14, GMT). Just follow the directions in this Sherlockology news item. (As far as I can tell, you don't literally need to be an official Sherlockology follower.)

I hope everyone saw this in time. The sale has now ended.

As of this morning (7:36) the code wasn't working, Sherlockology's people have informed the BBC of this, so keep checking back, hopefully they'll have it up and running soon!

really? I thought this game is about finding a murderer. So, if I'm not the murderer, the other player has to be. So how is it possible to play with two players?

As I "understand" it (having never actually played the game), you don't know whether you're the murderer or not. But the more the merrier, obviously.

Code was working by 10am when we finally placed our order. It seems the mix up was resolved.

If you're interested, today would be a good time -- you wouldn't get the free shipping, of course, since you're not in the UK, but there is a special price for today (November 14th) only!

Even if there are only 2 of you playing the game, the murderer can be any one of the characters - the 'murder' cards are of a person, a weapon and a room. I first played Cluedo when I was on holiday when I was 6 or 7 and we discovered the box in the cottage we were staying in - good job really as we were in the Lake District and it doesn't half rain when it puts its mind to it. Haven't played it for years.

I ordered it yesterday and it has been shipped already :) *can't wait*

Yes, thanks, aely! Your explanation made it sufficiently clear that I did not understand the game, that I finally read the rather lengthy and detailed Wikipedia "Cluedo" article, which includes the following items:

In 1944, Anthony E. Pratt, an English solicitor's clerk, filed for a patent of ... a murder/mystery-themed game, originally named "Murder!" .... Waddingtons's executive Norman Watson ... purchased the game and provided its trademark name of "Cluedo" (a play on "clue" and "Ludo"; ludo is Latin for I play). ...[T]he game was ... officially launched ... [in] 1949, ... simultaneously licensed to Parker Brothers in the United States ..., where it was renamed "Clue" along with other minor changes.

A player can use the piece representing the murderer. This does not affect the game play...

All editions of the current version of the game are advertised as a three to six player game only. Traditionally, the UK version was advertised for two to six players.

In addition to a number of more-or-less standard editions of the game, there are several licensed theme variants, including:

Clue: Harry Potter Edition (2008), also released as Cluedo: Harry Potter Edition

Clue: The Office Edition (2009) [based on the American adaptation of the show -- otherwise, Martin Freeman would be represented in two different variants!]

Cluedo: Sherlock Edition (2012)

That’s a lot of information. I have a board but it’s one of those travel editions, the pieces are really small and fiddly, but I have played.

Although it was only with two making it quite boring!

As for the playing online...hmm, I guess it’s possible.

Start off with a spoiler in the first post. In this spoiler it states the name of the murder, the object and the place. From there on we guess?? Taking turns. From the incorrect guesses we have a basis to work from. Another problem is that one person will have to be an INSPECTOR who knows and answer with YES or NO to the guesses. Now it’s more like 20 Questions.

This could be a little tedious, and people could peek. But I guess with good sports it could work.

(This would be an open game for anyone to join)

Any ideas for a better online version??

Well, ours arrived yesterday (at 7.43 am... Bloody Royal Mail!!), and we've already had our first game. I need more people so we can play longer gaaaaames!
