Superhero Films Discussion (Marvel, DC, etc.)
Surelock replied to Artemis's topic in Movies & Entertainment
Who else here thinks Thanos in Endgame got disrespected by the writers? In many ways, Thanos feels like a different character than the one in Infinity War. -
The episodes are slow paced in S8. Basically nothing had in the first 2 episodes and there are only 6 episodes in total. I doubt we'll get to see the White Walkers reach King's Landing.

One thing I still have trouble wrapping my head around this episode is the fact that it started off with a mystery which involved a kid getting burned to his death. That felt too gorey for me. It felt out of place. It didn't look like the initial mystery of the missing kid was anything other than plot device so I saw no need for Mofatiss to make it so dark.

Patterns throughout BBC Sherlock

This video does a good job of explaining what kind writer Moffat is based off how he writes Sherlock and Doctor Who:- 88 replies

Not sure where to put this but this is a great video essay on how Sherlock uses its editing to aid its visual storytelling:

Harry Potter + other JK Rowling
Surelock replied to Carol the Dabbler's topic in Movies & Entertainment
So this guy claims that Sherlock isn't really a mystery series and says that Harry Potter is: Do any of you agree with him? Personally I think the first few episodes were mystery stories but starting from The Reichenbach Fall, the series started devolving into what we have in The Final Problem which is barely a mystery in my eyes. -
According to my friend's wife, some women (not all) have an innate desire to be admired for their beauty, especially by men. It helps them build self-confidence.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tw3jHjEgPFU I don't know what to think of this. The Japanese mystery series that I've seen have been a mixed bag. Some have been good. Others not so much. I hope this series is good though. I need a good mystery series to watch because nobody knows how long it will take for another Sherlock season to premiere.

Is this game still going? K please.

Wait so it isn't a joke?

At 18:30 this video starts explaining one of the main flaws of Game of Thrones' writing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iePTjdDXslM#t=18m30s I generally agree with what this guy is saying but I believe that his criticisms apply more to the TV show than the books. I also believe Martin has an ending planned that he hopes he can write before he dies.

This is what Trump tweeted about the hurricane:

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/politics/ct-trump-charlottesville-violence-20170812-story.html Trump blames 'many sides' for the for the violence in Charlottesville protests. I wonder if these 'many sides' include the neo-nazis?

I have to ask as someone familiar with the books, do you agree with this criticism of the TV adaption? I think this is right. This is one of the reasons why I hope (and am quite certain) that the series will get re-adapted one day and stay more loyal to the books.

The thing about Game of Thrones that I dislike is that it seems to get too repetitive with its themes. Its main thesis seems to be about the darkness of humanity which is fine but after seeing so many episodes and reading so many books about this matter in the Westeros-verse, I've gotten bored of this theme. I think the story feels stretched out. Martin was originally planning the series to be a trilogy and personally I think he should have left it as such. It kind of feels like to me that he's stretching out the story to make fan favourites do cool things etc.

I get that Trump said that transgenders would be banned out of bigotry but tbh I don't think it's that bad in the long run. I think the U.S. needs to stop playing world police and one of the keys to achieving that is to decrease the power of the military. Reducing the number of people signing up to join the military is one way of achieving that. I think a bigger issue is how John McCain who is currently suffering from brain cancer was receiving tax-payer funded healthcare, went on a tax-payer funded trip to Washington to approve of Trump's healthcare bill which would rob poor people of the treatment that he himself is receiving. Republicans are the worst.

http://thehill.com/homenews/house/343455-house-dem-seeks-to-prevent-trump-from-being-able-to-pardon-himself So the President of the United States may be able to pardon himself for treason. How is this even allowed?

https://twitter.com/yashar/status/885559787810893825 So Trump, in front of his own wife and the French President, just said this to the French President's wife: "You're in such good shape. She's in such good physical shape. Beautiful."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwqexWD-AzM Scenes like this make me think that Trump really is suffering from dementia. On the bright side, maybe he'll forget that he has the nuclear codes?

According to the article, the gif was first posted on r/The_Donald which is a very pro-Trump subreddit. I think it's clear that the gif was meant to be pro-Trump. Sorry, maybe I'm just cruel, but I don't feel sorry for the author. That gif can easily be read as a call for violence against the media. It's not something anyone should be joking about in the current political climate when the U.S. President is always accusing the media of lying. This guy was a troll and, for once, the internet was used against him and made him responsible for his actions. He had to learn that just because he was behind a computer screen, didn't mean he could do whatever he wanted and get away with it. Personally I think stuff like this has to happen more.

This can easily be explained. You see CNN tracked down the person who made that gif of Trump taking down CNN. CNN then attempted to contact this man but the man did not respond. Instead he issued an apology on reddit (which has since been taken down). After issuing the apology, he allowed CNN to contact him. He seemed afraid of his identity being revealed. CNN released this statement: CNN is not publishing "HanA**holeSolo's" name because he is a private citizen who has issued an extensive statement of apology, showed his remorse by saying he has taken down all his offending posts, and because he said he is not going to repeat this ugly behavior on social media again. In addition, he said his statement could serve as an example to others not to do the same. CNN reserves the right to publish his identity should any of that change. So basically CNN now has this guy on a leash. He had no choice but to apologise. I even heard some Trump supporters saying that CNN was threatening his freedom of speech lol. But anyway, CNN doesn't have the same leverage over the U.S. President. Trump can continue to be the world's biggest troll and get away with it as long as he's President. The impeachment can't come fast enough.

Anti-Trump twitter accounts of which there are many. This ad was only released a few days ago and people are afraid that it's going to cause trouble for those protesting the muslim ban (which was referred to in the video). The ironic thing is that the NRA can make an add like this and get away with it. I think U.S. Freedom of Speech laws are too lax. I think we need to tighten up what constitutes a call for violence since so many people in the country have guns.
-
This is what Trump supporters would say if they read this thread: In all seriousness, this sounds like a call for violence. This is why I always try to stay away from people with guns regardless of their reason for possessing them.
