Sherlockology has posted its detailed review of Fargo (with more photos).  Be aware that it contains some spoilers (especially if you haven't seen even the first few episodes yet).

There is an interesting article in Radio Times about Martin Freeman's being cast for the role of Lester without an audition or seeing if he could do the Minnesota accent:

Still no DVD that I can find, but the FX Shop has Fargo T-shirts, mugs, magnets -- and a poster for just about every character in the show, including Lester:

Finally!  The DVD and Blu-ray are available for pre-order.  (The episodes are also available for download, either one at a time or -- for somewhat less per episode -- as a set.)

There's no release date for the discs yet, nor any mention of special features.  Presumably more information will be available fairly soon.

It's been over two months since the final episode aired (at least in the US, Australia, and the UK), so I'm no longer using spoiler boxes.  If you haven't seen the entire miniseries yet, you might want to STOP READING NOW.

... what kinda total idiot is [Lester], to walk right over to Malvo in the bar like that -- any sane person woulda snuck out the back door!

I don't suppose we'll ever get an answer from Lester himself, but I've found the very-next-best thing (here):

He is enjoying being the player. And that was really interesting to read. Oh, he is not just being a surrounded animal now, he is actually thinking he's getting good at this. And he was getting good at it. His pride got him and he wanted recognition from the ultimate bad guy. And instead, he dies a few episodes later. He needn't have done that. He could have got away with it and become a womanizing bastard. But he had to go and get recognition from Billy Bob.

OK, so that's the kind of total idiot he was!  :P

This article includes a nice little video (sorry, not the easily-embeddable kind) with Martin Freeman talking about that Minnesota accent, and simultaneously provides an excellent example of why it's dangerous to rely on printed paraphrases (or even "quotes").

In the video, Freeman plainly says, "First day on the set, I didn't want to be the 'limey' who wasn't getting the accent right" -- but the article's text claims that he "admits his anxiety about not wanting to be the only 'limey' on set."  Umm, not exactly!

OK, the first season of Fargo is now available for pre-order on Amazon US (to be released on October 14th) and is already in stock at Amazon UK.

While you're waiting for your DVDs to be released or delivered, here's Radio Times' handy guide to understanding the Minnesota dialect.

The guide is not too far off.  You Betcha usually has a Ya Sure tacked on in front & the never swearing has been completely tossed out of the window.

I thought it was very good. I liked Martin's Minnesota accent. Billy Bob Thornton looked good. I had all the episodes recorded so that I could watch them all one after the other.

When is it coming out on DVD?

That's the DVDs and Blu-rays -- sorry I neglected to specify.

In addition to the ten episodes, the UK (Region 2) DVD includes the following:

Special features:

  • Commentary by Billy Bob Thornton, Allison Tolman and Noah Hawley (on select episodes)
  • This Is a True Story
  • Greetings From Bemidji
  • Shades of Green
  • Deleted Scenes

I would assume that the US (Region 1) DVD has the same content, but Amazon does not specify.

I just finished watching Fargo on Netflix and loved it. I haven't laughed that hard at a television series in ages. Martin Freeman was brilliant and the plot had some surprising turns. Too bad it's only one series!

They're getting ready to make another season of Fargo -- but it'll be set in another town, with an entirely different set of characters.

Cool! I thought it was a one-off but I'll definitely be watching a new season even if it doesn't have Martin

An odd bit of news:  Fargo will not be competing in the Writers' Guild of America awards, due to a disagreement over which category it belongs in.  Apparently some technicality in the WGA rules would force it into the drama series category, even though it's already competed (very successfully) as a miniseries for several other major awards.  The producers feel that Fargo is clearly a miniseries rather than a drama series, and have therefore chosen not to enter the competition at all.

Here's the write-up from Variety.

Because I tend to grind my teeth in my sleep, I wear a night guard when I'm in bed.  I just realized that its first name must be Lester -- Lester Nightguard.

The plastic kind is much safer to have around than the real one.  ;)

Dudes wassuuup.

Idk if there's a threat for this...but... I watched FARGO S02 episode01 and it's amazing!

I red that True Detective Series 2 wasn't as good as Series 1. But Fargo Series 2, my goodness, there's potential! However, I like the first episode and I recommend it to all of you guys.

Freeman of course isn't part of this second Season ...well he died so...

Btw. School starts tomorrow in Germany ,NRW.

I haven't seen the new season, so thanks for the reminder and your comments.

Here's more info on Season 2 -- it's Lou Solverson's back story, set in 1979 (and also features his daughter Molly as a little girl).  So it's a prequel to both last year's Season 1 and the original movie.)
