We're all definitely in need of cheering, and I have to admit I'm a sucker for funny and cute ads around this time of year. Since there are so many countries represented here how about sharing a few?

This is one from last year that I loved, the bizarreness of the narwhal in the punch bowl gets me every time :D

And this is from John Lewis who are known for their Christmas ads.

What's catching your eye in your country?

And here I thought the butterfly effect was supposed to take a few zillion years!

There was series of humorous radio ads a few years back (actually, I suspect about 20 years back) that cracked me up.  Recently I've been looking for them on YouTube, but with no luck so far.  Big problem is, I don't recall what product or company the ads were *for*. which makes it kinda hard to supply keywords.  I don't even know whether it was a local or national company.

In the only ad I remember specifically, the narrator was a farmer who had just delivered a load of potatoes (?) and was sweeping the residual soil out of his truck when a woman asked if she could buy it.  He immediately saw the business potential, and commented something like "Don't have to hit *me* twice on the head with no tire tool."  Does that sound familiar to anyone?

Ha, no definitely not something I've come across, though to be expected I suppose since I'm thousands of miles away :D Does sound funny though

Sorry about the quality on this one.

Oh geez, this one followed the one just above. Almost not funny!

I saw this one at the theater during the movie previews and thought it was pretty funny.  [Audi Christmas 2017]

I was just about to look for that one to post. Poor dog, lol.

Edit: Repost because the original video link no longer works.  [Buster the Boxer]

Ha it is pretty funny. I think one of my fave bits is how sinister the guy seems to find Father Christmas in the beginning.

Okay this may top the He-Man ad for the same company.

But what is the ad *for*?

I've noticed that on ads over here too, the past few years -- getting people's attention seems to be the big goal, never mind that they have no idea what the product is or why they should want it.  Maybe they just want people to remember the brand name -- because all such products are pretty much the same anyhow (or theirs is the worst)?

Money Supermarket, it's a price comparison site for insurance etc. They're pretty notorious for their weird ads which always have the slogan '[name] saved money at Money Supermarket, and now he feels epic!'

I know what you mean, there are some ads what I have no idea what it was actually for or why I would want it.

Ah, so they're something like Price Line (which has William Shatner in their ads).  I didn't get that from the ad at all.  (Then again, maybe I just wasn't paying attention.)

Yep, it's always just someone dancing like a nutter because they've saved money.

Not a holiday ad, but I love these old Seinfeld and Superman ads for American Express.

If it hadn't been for the video's title, I wouldn't have realized at first that they were supposed to be pirates -- definitely one of those ads that gets your attention by puzzling you!  But the puzzlement tends to impress me far more than the revelation at the end does, so I'm not sure how effective they are, at least for me.  Of course I'm probably not a typical viewer.

Huh, that’s interesting, I definitely got ‘pirates’ right away!  The song, his clothes, the fish, the billowy white cloth everywhere reminiscent of sails, all screamed ‘pirates’ to me.  Now you have me wondering if it was supposed to puzzle me more than it did, lol.

I got "pirates" because of the music! (Because it so closely resembles the "Pirates of the Caribbean" theme.) But w/o that, I don't know if I would have gotten it either. I don't associate pirates with horses. The ships were sort of another clue, though.

Right -- I got it when the ships showed up.  But I wasn't familiar with the Pirates of the Caribbean theme, and I've never associated horses with pirates.  At first it struck me as more of a generic romantic theme (using "romantic" in the classical sense * ).

Hmm... Maybe I would have been more confused if he hadn’t been chasing fish, but that together with the other things made it obvious to me what he was imagining.  Oh well, lol.  Guess I’ll have to enjoy it by myself.

Oh, is *that* what those little things were?  I guess I can blame some of my confusion on my small screen, then!
