Of antique? No idea, but I notice the model of my car is on display at antique car shows. Ak.

Back to Christmas movies … I've discovered a Dr. Who marathon, looks like a lot of them are Christmas specials. Most of them seem to be written by Moffat, and they're delightful. I haven't been able to get this station before (BBC America), I hope it's a permanent addition to my cable lineup!

According to Wikipedia,

Quote

The Antique Automobile Club of America defines an antique car as over 25 years of age.

[1] However, the legal definitions for the purpose of antique vehicle registration vary widely. The antique car era includes the Veteran era, the Brass era, and the Vintage era, which range from the beginning of the automobile up to the 1930s. Later cars are often described as classic cars.

So I'd guess that your erstwhile car might be technically a classic, rather than an antique.  Feel better?  :D

P.S.:  My first car was a '62 Volkswagen beetle.

YES! :D

Mine was a '67 Mustang, but it was already 10 years old when I got it. Lasted me another 20 years. Oh how I loved that car. Teal blue, it was gorgeous. Wouldn't be able to afford the gas for it now, though, I think it got something like 15 mpg. The horror!

What is it with your generation and VW beetles, anyway? Never saw the attraction, myself. Too young, I guess .... :P

I didn't choose the beetle, I sort of inherited it.  But I must say it was an incredibly reliable car, as long as you didn't mind freezing in the winter.  (At that time, VW's idea of a heating system consisted mainly of wishful thinking.)

We watched a semi-new-to-me Christmas movie the other night, namely Bill Murray's Scrooged.  I had seen it once before and hadn't too much cared for it, but I really liked it this time.  It's an interesting take on the classic story, with Murray playing a network executive who's determined to squeeze every dollar possible out of a live adaptation of A Christmas Carol.  Of course he turns over a new leaf at the end, thus making the movie sort of an adaptation within an adaptation.

And regarding a Christmas song that I enjoy, I noticed on Wikipedia that Brenda Lee's classic 1958 recording of Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree just hit its all-time high of #2 on the Billboard Top 100 this month -- 61 years after its initial release!

Last night I watched a new, "dark retelling" of "A Christmas Carol".  It's an FX original movie, also available on Hulu (for free) and Amazon (for $3).  It is 3 hours long.  I enjoyed it to start, it was different but interesting.  His quirks and idiosyncrasies were reminiscent of an evil Sherlock Holmes, lol.  I appreciated the deeper exploration of his past, which has only been hinted at and glossed over in other versions.  It certainly delivered on the "dark".  But I felt it started to go a bit downhill in the last hour, and the ending for me fell flat.  I would still say it was worth watching, if only for something unique and different from the norm at Christmas.
