I just looked in my email trash folder, and the last was December 8th. And the notifications I'm talking about are for when a thread I'm subscribed to is updated. I get one for every post.

Interesting.  That's the same date that my PM notifications stopped.  (But well before the "snow" started.)

Tim?  Any theories?

Well, it's logical for snow to stop all traffic, electronic or otherwise! Once, the "wrong kind of snow" cancelled train services throughout Southeast England, imagine what it can do to bits and bytes!

I did, I did! What do I win?

Lifetime supply of green glob and Mycroft's Language Lesson Boot Camp.

Starting tomorrow, by Christmas you have to master 24 languages or you have to follow his exercise routines for a year.

Is anyone receiving notifications for anything anymore? (Assuming you have your settings set up to receive any, of course. :-) )

Nope. Only received those maybe a couple of weeks after I joined and it stopped. Practically since May (hey I have been here for a while! Wohoo! :cowdance:)

Do you happen to recall what sorts of notifications you used to receive, Van Buren?

Green glob, woo-hoo!!!! :cowdance: I never have to cook again!

I'll take Mycroft's exercise routines, I could stand to lose a few pounds. Especially after I eat all that green glob. He has to loan me his equipment, though.

Curiously, I got a couple of email notifications this morning!

Posted

Me too!  Well, one email notifying me of a new PM and another email notifying me of some moderator business.  Last time I'd gotten either type was the 8th.

I suspect Tim has been busy!

Yay Tim!

Yes, indeed! Wonder what happened?

Tim says he "tweaked some settings on the server."

Well, I'm certainly very happy he did! :applause:  :applause:  :applause:

They are email notifications about replies or quote to my post or new posts from threads that I participate, because as newbie, all default settings are yes and the template is automatic follow to threads you respond to.

Now I want me some green glob...

but I still can live without seeing Mycroft patting his stomach..

To impersonate John Watson: Nothing happens to me..

But to be fair, I believe one time I had disabled any notification settings anyway, after I gave it a couple of months to come back and it didn't.

As far as I know, the Quote notifications are still not working, and the same may apply to the thread-subscription notifications.

I could have happily spent the rest of my life without seeing that!     But it's kinda cute, I guess.

I disabled a bunch of mine, too.  Then I re-enabled some of them.  I really should go check and see what's supposedly enabled now, just in case some more things start working next time Tim downloads the next rev of the software.

I always count on My Content to know what is being updated (on threads I participate).

Without it, I'd be lost.

Yup, me too -- I'm a great fan of my New Content page, and that's what I have on my bookmark toolbar.

In fact, the New Content page is one very good reason for people to join the forum even if they don't plan to post anything.  Then you don't have to hunt through all the subforums looking for new stuff.  (Of course, once you've joined, you do have the ability to post your comments, questions, etc., to help keep the forum active.)

Oh, actually I meant My Content, the one under user name, below My Profile.

This is specifically caters to threads that you have participated before.

Didn't know about New Content, just checked it out, neat..! And useful. Thanks.

Oh, I see.  I'd never thought of using "My Content" in that way.  They're pretty similar, though.  The main difference seems to be that "New Content" shows everything that's had recent activity (not just the ones that I've already posted to).  I think I'll stick with that one, because it'll show me when there's a brand-new thread -- and it's easy enough to skip any threads that I'm not interested in.

Under 'Profile,' I see My Content, but I don't have New Content. I've never relied on them anyway. I rely on the 'Follow' email notifications, which seem to be back, yay!

For some reason, the "View New Content" link isn't in your user drop-down menu, it's elsewhere near the top of the page (with the exact location depending on which Theme you're using).

Oh, I see it now! Way, way, way at the top! Thanks!

Happy Snow, everybody!

But just in case anyone prefers the usual appearance of the forum, there are multiple options:

Change the theme into "safe for work" and you won't have snow. :)

"Safe for Work" is also minus the Victorian top-of-page picture (in fact, there's no picture there at all).  For those who enjoy having a (non-Victorian) holiday picture but don't care for the snow, there's a "Deviant 3 (No Snow)" theme available.  And for those who like the snow but prefer a non-holiday picture, there's always good ol' IP.Board.

You'll find the "Change Theme" link at the lower-left of any forum page.

Sorry to go back on-topic without warning -- but what happened to the "Deviant 3 (No Snow)" theme?

Also, there seems to be less snow now.  Am I imagining things?

Posted

Weirdly enough, I'm not seeing any snow at all at the moment.

Posted

First of all, I'm not complaining! :D (Although I did love the snow.) But the snow has stopped everywhere except IP.Board, apparently. Has global warming struck even here in the forum?

True, I'm not seeing any snow on Deviant 3 right now.  Lemme go check the other themes on my computer, just in case....

Graphite seems to be snow-free as well.

SFW never did have any snow, did it?  Still doesn't.  Presumably likewise for the two mobile themes, so I won't bother checking those.

But back on IP.Board, there are still flurries (kinda like Indiana today!), which show up particularly well against the dark banners at the top of the page.
