Sherlock Holmes, porn preference: normal
jesskayding replied to wildwoodflower's topic in Characters
I'm going to agree with sfmpco here and say that the exchange quoted above sounds to me like an admission that Sherlock has been viewing porn on John's laptop. For one thing, he knows John looks at porn and maybe has a few sites bookmarked or hasn't cleared out his browser history -- otherwise, why would it be easier to look at John's computer to find porn than his own? And I seriously doubt that John is watching porn in the living room; I think he'd be a bit more circumspect than that. Second, I take the "I confiscate it" not as the opposite of "borrow" but as an intensifier. That is, not only does he look at porn on John's computer when he borrows it (implying John's knowledge) but also when he takes it without John's knowledge. I agree with this, although I know there is no one correct perspective and the character can be interpreted many ways. I base my head canon on two studies that I've read (sorry, don't have citations right now because I read at least one of them in grad school). One study found that people with high IQ tend to be more highly sexed and/or perceive having more intense sexual urges than do people of average IQ. The other study found that people with high IQ tend to be more likely to have periods of voluntary celibacy in their lives, which I think is easy to understand. High IQ also correlates with a greater ability to perceive consequences to actions and to choose to delay gratification. So I think both sets of findings can be true simultaneously. Taking those academic findings together, I assume that Sherlock both understands the potential negative consequences that can come from sexual activity and has a high or relatively high sex drive. The man needs an outlet of some type. Hmmm. I must have an high IQ. -

Here's some info on the new book. It's to be released on November 6th. There's a book? Is there a DVD? -
Too silly.

But what about the expensive clothes? Don't buy the whole Mycroft providing his little brothers wardrobe. I'm quite particular about my appearance too - I'm convinced Sherlock goes shopping.

that reminds me of something I have been wondering.. I clearly have been missing something in the episodes.. during the pilot, when john meets sgt. donovan, under a pouring rain, she says to him something like "stay well clear of sherlock holmes: he's awkward, he's fond of homicides. he doesn't even get paid, he comes here for fun, snooping on the crime scene and one day he'll be the one providing the body" (something along these words). I have always assumed sherlock gets paid for his job as a consulting detective for the police. he may earn something working as "private detective" for the cases he takes up through his website of course, but does he earn enough to live of it? or does he come from a rich family..? It also seems that John began to accept an incentive for his work. TBB.

Well I think I'll only make my bed when company is coming over.

Why healthier?

She really does blend in with my cover, which upon further observation does resemble The Woman's wallpaper. Hmmmmm.
-
Find Audrey! Yeah, I don't always make the bed.
-
Well some of us are watching it together in the next 30mins or so. Maybe that part will be pause worthy.

Hay! I ran off to Portland once, didn't spot a bearded lady, but I did spot a guy who surgically had "devil/demon" horns implanted into his head.
-
Right. She, Andersen & Lestrade, should have known he wouldn't have been so careless. But it was like Donovan was waiting for an opportunity to pounce on Sherl.

I felt like it was a bit of over acting personally. I love the deductioning in that scene though.

TRF... That little girl screams @ Sherlock. Why I don't like Donavon, a good detective would see that obviously they used someone who looked like Sherlock. Sherlock would have avoided @ all cost interviewing a child he supposedly kidnapped apparently unmasked.

I see nothing whatsoever strange about wanting some logic in a Sherlock Holmes story. In fact, I'd like to see more logic (and less shock value) in Series 4 myself, more like Series 1 and 2 in that regard.I agree with more logic. There is a certain amount if wit when there is solid logic involved. I'm sorry, but there is nothing mainstream about BBC Sherlock... Nothing...

Yeah, that part is pretty ambiguous. I'm ok with it though.
