  2. I wouldn't kill him, but most of what I've seen of that photoshoot doesn't leave me with an overwhelming urge to kiss him either! However as there is one photo at least that I really like... Kiss Rupert Young (Sir Leon in Merlin)
  3. Me too, with bells on. I don't mind BTW, AFAIK, IIRC and those sorts of things but cu, ur and stuff like that make me irritated. I think it's because an abbreviation is just that - an abbreviation - and not a wilful typo. I don't mind unintentional typos, we all make those! Before I got my current phone, which makes life difficult because of the way it's put together, my text messages had proper spelling, grammar and punctuation - I don't bother so much with the punctuation now as getting capital letters and stuff in the right place on my current phone is such a pain! The only good thing about my phone is that I can actually use it as a phone as it works with my hearing aids. Precious few other phones do at a volume that is useful for me.
  4. They are very good at keeping things under their hats if they need to - just look at the last series of Doctor Who!
  5. Gabriel Byrne, Douglas Hodge, Gina McKee, Charles Dance, Rupert Graves and Ruth Negga star in the four-part drama written by Robert Jones (Murder, Lennon Naked) and directed by Ed Fraiman (The Philanthropist), which is inspired by Chris Mullin's novel A Very British Coup. Deputy Prime Minister Tom Dawkins (Byrne) vows to take on the American petrochemical company Petrofex after a devastating accident on British soil. Following the suspicious death of the Prime Minister in a plane crash, Dawkins' understated political ambitions are tested as heavyweights Ros Yelland (Sylvestra La Touzel) and Felix Durrell (Graves) vie for the top job, but neither appears to have justice for the victims at the forefront of their campaign. ~*~ Unfortunately the first episode of this was on Wednesday on Channel 4 but there are another 3 to watch (next on the Wednesday 14th at 10pm) and the first can be seen on 4od if you're in the UK - http://www.channel4....ecret-state/4od Interestingly, some of this was filmed in Liverpool so I have more than just the excuse of seeing RG to watch it. I have recorded it.
  6. I've got used to subtitles, but that's because I have to use them to make a show watchable because of my duff ears. Sometimes with a Brit show like Sherlock or Parade's End I can manage without but as soon as someone is speaking off camera, or you can't see their face when they're talking I need the darn things back again. Having said that, it doesn't half annoy me if what's onscreen doesn't match with what's being said... and I notice!
  7. There used to be a character limit on text messages back in the 1990s - I got my first mobile back in 1998 I think, though it could have been the year earlier. I use some abbreviations, possibly more now with my current phone as it is such a pain to use proper grammar and punctuation with it in comparison with my previous one. I prefer to use 'proper' English though.
  8. I hate Viserys but Harry Lloyd is brill, so kiss Naoko Mori
  9. Rupert Graves has shown up in other detective-y things, but not necessarily with other Holmesian actors - Wallander, Lewis, Law and Order:UK, Scott and Bailey, New Tricks and Death in Paradise to name a few (Death in Paradise was why he had a suntan in Hounds).
  10. Welcome to the forum!
  11. I'm off to Whitby Goth Weekend later on today and I try to go at least once a year (there are two a year). It's a great experience, about 5000 goths in a little seaside town not having to worry about getting abuse for being who they are for a change. Wonderful. I also love fannish gatherings at conventions and stuff so I was wondering what specific gatherings of people - whether it be for music/interests/whatever - those on here would like to attend at some point in their lives. Me, I'd like to go to Dragon*Con in the USA at some point - goodness only knows when and if I'd be able to afford it - and also the M'era Luna Festival in Germany. I've been to Wave-Gotik-Treffen in Germany once before, and I'd love to do that again and all.
  12. kiss (and then probably run like hell before she whopped me over the head) John Hurt
  13. escape

  15. James Bond! He's almost as much part of the British psyche as Doctor Who - even if you've managed to miss all the films and have never even heard of Ian Fleming (or the fact that James Bond existed on paper before he was on film), most people have heard of James Bond. Ummmm. Inspector Clouseau of Pink Panther fame?

  17. I read a lot of Agatha Christie when I was younger as my aunt had the entire works and reading was a good way to keep out from under her feet when I had to go and visit her and my grandmother but still be there. Always preferred Marple to Poirot at the time.

  20. I am more than happy to keep things lighthearted.

  22. normal Just to explain the association of control and William - there's a singer called William Control who I saw live with EvigMidnat. I do associate some things with very random words and I always use the first one that comes into my head for this game. If you look back some of my responses can seem a little... odd but that's also kind of normal for me.
  23. If you download shows to watch, rather than streaming, and you want subtitles, there are some pretty good sites out there now that will have subtitles ready usually the day after broadcast. I downloaded the new ep of Castle yesterday and the subtitles today so I could watch it - the subtitles files are tiny.
  24. I have developed a good eye for subtitles after years of practice - I no longer have to read them, I just scan as I'm watching in case I can't make out everything that is said. Obviously I have less problems with dialogue in British shows as I'm tuned into the accent, and am more likely to spot errors in subtitling but since I developed the scanning thing mistakes don't bother me so much as they used to. SherLOCKED, I am not offended, I just don't like people making assumptions. Deafness is a hidden disability even when you can see a person face to face, it's even more hidden when you interact online. I am a little twitchy about the age thing as losing ones hearing when relatively young is the bane of my family - my dad was 21, my mum in her early 30s, me at 24, my eldest sister is also losing her hearing but luckily not as fast and doesn't yet need aids and she's just turned 50. We're an interesting family to ENT specialists due to the otosclerosis as it's not so common to have as many members affected as we have.
  25. William
