  1. Kiss or Kill doesn't have to be a person, it can be a thing. And I love Gingerbread latte - makes me think of Christmas. I had a ginger muffin to go with it! So, if you're killing gingerbread latte, what's your choice of next thing/person?
  2. See, I've always thought he potentially could have been drugged - you see him in the offices and then they specifically have him looking at what appear to be some very leaky pipes. Maybe it was just steam or something else innocuous that was escaping, but maybe it wasn't? That gas had to come from somewhere, right? More importantly, it happens not long before Sherlock does the lab rat thing...
  3. Kiss Gingerbread latte
  4. I love the films, but to me they're kind of a steampunk Holmes AU, rather than a strict re-telling of the ACD stories. They take the idea of Holmes and run with it in a direction that some people will find very un-Holmesesque. Game of Shadows is awesome, but it heads even more down that road of Steampunk-y, action-y Holmes AU than the first film did but the only part of the film that had me going 'but they wouldn't *do* that back then' was right near the end. I love a steampunk twist on history so I suppose I was always going to give the films the benefit of the doubt, it probably also helps that I've never read the original source material. It doesn't hurt that I find RDJ rather scrumptious either.
  5. I'm with Brainy - I don't think Moriarty perceived Molly as important to Sherlock as he'd seen how she was treated. Whether Sherlock's treatment of Molly was intentional or oblivious, we may never know for certain.
  6. I think Terrence does a great English accent as Bob. The way of pronouncing process is a 'Southern' Irish thing I think - I know quite a few people from Dublin and other parts of Eire who pronounce it that way and some people from Belfast and other towns in Northern Ireland who don't.
  7. The British version of Wallander (with Kenneth Branagh) has another Sherlock connection, besides the lead character having some traits in common with Sherlock... Rupert Graves has been a guest on the show in episode 2 of S2, the Man Who Smiled (and his character was a nasty piece of work too).
  8. Oh, another one for the 'losing accents' thing. David Morissey (Jackson Lake in 'The Next Doctor' - the 2008 Doctor Who Christmas special) He's done all sorts of different British accents, but his natural one is a Scouse accent, which kind of surprised me when I first heard it as I hadn't realised he had one. I could tell he was from Liverpool as there are certain tells of speech, usually in vowel sounds, that you don't get with other accents even if they speak without much of an accent as a whole. Obviously there are exceptions where I haven't noticed, but in general I'm pretty good at spotting fellow Scousers (Paul McGann, the 8th Doctor, is another). Here's David Morissey with his non-Scouse accent (and David Tennant with both his normal Scottish accent and his English accent). www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mvza0HuDfuU With accent www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABVrARBi2EY and here he is way back in 1983 with a bunch of other Scousers (David played Billy and was 18 at the time) www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aV7aibue44 And here's David Morrisey doing another accent, with David Tennant being Scottish. 10. I might not listen to it much, but I think radio drama is as ingrained into the British Psyche now as Doctor Who - not everyone might partake but so many are aware it exists. They did what I remember as an amazing adaptation of the Lord of the Rings in the early 80s (not long after Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy was first broadcast) and I was quite a regular listener back then. As for the people in the pic the guy next to Benedict is David Harewood, James McAvoy is 3rd from the right, that looks like Tony Head on the far right and the woman is Natalie Dormer. Can't help you out with the others, I'm afraid.
  11. Supernatural
  12. Fantastic! I loved the original 1996 TV version (Peter Capaldi played the Angel Islington) and I adore the book. I don't usually do radio drama/audiobooks because of my hearing but for a new version of Neverwhere, I will make an exception. Benedict, Tony Head and Chris Lee are all lovely bonuses. For those that aren't that familiar with the wonderful Neil Gaiman, he wrote one of my favourite episodes for the 11th Doctor - 'The Doctor's Wife' but I think everyone should have a bit of Gaiman in their lives (I'm in the process of getting the Sandman books). On another Gaiman related note, there should be a TV movie version of Good Omens being made in the not too distant future. Gaiman is wonderful. Gaiman and Benedict together.... sheer brilliance. Er yes, happy about this news.

  15. I find these metas fascinating, but there's a part of me that does not want to believe that some beloved characters would operate so far outside the law, even if it is perceived as being for the greater good in the long run (I don't have a problem believing Mycroft would do that - he's in politics after all). Due to this, my brain will not accept that Sherlock happens in our reality but in one that is very similar that we could step into unawares without realising. Having said that, this series of Sherlock metas is a very useful resource for those wanting to know more about the way the British system works, whether you're a Brit who doesn't know about such stuff in much detail (me), a non-Brit, a writer or what. By the way, I take no responsibility for the fannish part of my brain, it does what it wants without asking me anything (why do you think I write crossovers, it's all down to my twisted little brain).
  16. If (like me) you don't like tumblr, part 2 is now on LiveJournal, wherein it is discussed: Why Donovan and Anderson hate Sherlock – it is much more complicated than just petty jealousy. Why informing the Chief Inspector about Sherlock was an incredibly brave thing for Sally to do. Reasons why Sally felt she had to report Sherlock at that time Why Sally Donovan is a very human, flawed and brilliant character.

  18. OK, I'm sold on the necessity of this now - not that I needed much persuading. I have a couple of Christmas presents to request from family...
  19. And Irene did owe him a favour...
  20. I'd add Paul Blackthorne to that list - I had no idea he was English when I first saw the Dresden Files!
  21. I'm glad you enjoyed the Dresden Files. Andrew Scott's accent isn't that strong - I know some people from Dublin whose accents you can cut with a knife. There can be quite significant variations in city accents sometimes. In Liverpool there is a variation between north and south but it's only really noticeable to people familiar with the accent anyway, either other Scousers or those who have lived there for a while with their ears open. I'd never noticed that about American actors playing English characters. Interesting. I'm hoping someone will come up with more examples or counter-examples (I'm hopeless, so nothing from me on that score).
  22. 42 is the answer to Life, the Universe and Everything (according to the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy), so if he's 21 again...

  24. It's your Life, the Universe and Everything Birthday? Brill!
