I have no problem with an Asian woman being Watson - if they were going to reinvent Watson as female at least they've used someone I like! It's not Sherlock, but then it's not *trying* to be Sherlock either. They've essentially taken a Holmes-like character and stuck him in a fairly normal crime drama, while making sure he's a very different sort of Holmes (besides the Englishness) to any we've seen before. I rather like it. I also like the fact that they've written Jonny Lee Miller's tattoos into the show as part of his character - it must make a nice change for him not to have to cover them up! Elementary officially starts tonight in the UK at 9pm on Sky Living - I will be watching, even though I've seen it already.

So it's called pyrex over there too. Phew.

There is a sub-section of fandom that suggests that there might be more between Mycroft and his umbrella than it merely being an accessory - be it either as an item of clothing or of self defence. They tend to remain hidden in plain sight...

Now I'm wondering about pyrex...

I think it varies. Most British people will probably be on in the evening time for them, unless they access the forum at work. I drop in at all times of the day and night because I am a shift worker. We also have members from a variety of other countries and obviously they all pop in at different times.

Public Transport on Sunday is horrendous at the best of times - on Remembrance Sunday? Ack! After having to get 3 trains and 2 buses back from Birmingham on a Sunday once, a journey that took over 4 hours (instead of the 1 hour it should take), I vowed never to do public transport on a Sunday again.

I'd have it just for the sheer hell of it. Mind you, I'm one of those people who doesn't really like monopoly, but when someone gets out the Star Wars version, I'm so there.
-
And of course it is in London, which automatically makes it difficult for anyone north of Birmingham to attend. Bah.

I hate being called English as opposed to British as I'm part Welsh and part Irish and I don't like to have my heritage forgotten by calling me 'English' exclusively. I'm born and bred in Liverpool though (many people in Liverpool are of Irish descent) and we have a strong identity so I'm quite happy to accept being called 'Scouse' rather than English (or a Scouse as one of my friends calls me, which I find a bit odd in a way because scouse the noun generally refers to a type of meat stew). I don't look on 'Brit' as being inherently offensive - I'll refer to myself as 'a Brit' in some areas (usually online, often using 'us Brits' when making a point) and I never refer to Americans as Yanks unless I'm complaining about them (when I usually say 'bloody yanks' often when I'm mithering about health care or political systems).

I could see Sherlock undertaking a 'marriage of convenience' particularly if it was for an especially intriguing case - there are more than a few explorations of this from a John/Sherlock pov in fanfic.

Thanks for thinking about it!

More meta about Sherlock and his fascinating mind, this time by an LJ friend of mine who is a psychologist and trainee psychotherapist. Sherlock and Emotions: Part Ia. Sherlock and Emotions: Part 1b - is Sherlock a Narcissist?

You know, I'd never thought about it being a fantasy. Hmmm. No matter what, Mycroft is definitely someone who would be economical with the truth if he thought there was good reason. That doesn't necessarily mean there *is* a good reason because Mycroft doesn't think like the rest of us.

I think it's possibly just a British way of doing your scarf - I sometimes use the same method (depending on the scarf) and have done for years, even before Sherlock. As for Jonny's name - it's probably the latter way, but I tend to put the same emphasis on all three names so when I say it he's got this really long name of JonnyLeeMiller. Funnily enough, Gareth David Lloyd and Ben Loyd Holmes (who played a minor character in Torchwood which is probably why he came to mind) get the same treatment.

I've not read any yet! -
The vid being up was no bad thing - I will definitely be watching it when they get round to showing it on UK tv which I might not have done!

I would say quite is used often in the context of 'sort of' in the UK when it is used with other words - the quite short comment is a good example. Also if you said 'not quite right' you'd mean not completely right - meaning sort of wrong! Then you can also use 'quite' as a word on its own, as an agreement, which would kind of mean completely.

OK, it let me watch it but the quality isn't great so it would definitely need another watch. From what I've seen, I quite like it but then I don't really have a Sherlockian background and I'm certainly not going to be comparing it to BBC Sherlock (as there is no comparison). A few things jarred a little, but I actually find Lucy Liu's Watson wasn't really one of them.

The person who wrote meta about BAMF!John and the way his medical qualifications would fit in with his military service has been at it again (and if you haven't read them yet, I advise you to as they are very well thought out, see this post for links). This time she's put both Sherlock and Mycroft on the psychoanalysts 'couch' and discusses why Sherlock doesn't have autism, despite John's aspergers comment in Hounds, and whether it is actually Mycroft who is the sociopath of the family. Sherlock: why he doesn't have autism and never did Mycroft: on the examination couch - sociopath or not? Both make fascinating reading and you can't argue that she hasn't done her research. Very useful resource for fanfic writers as well as being an interesting read in their own right.

Moffat's next "Three Words" (Spoilers!!!)
aely replied to Carol the Dabbler's topic in Rumours & Speculation
Andrew Scott is from Dublin, so yes, bow as in now will most certainly be 'take a bow' or 'bow of a ship' or even 'bow wave' not 'tie a bow' though a Northern Irish accent might twist them differently such as from Armargh (think Colin Morgan) or Belfast. -
Quite a few of which were done in Victorian Liverpool - the industrial stuff, especially as some of our Victorian warehouses are still standing. I've been to a Sunday market where they filmed some of it...

Rupert Graves in Doctor Who Episode "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship"

I want to send Riddell back in time to help Madame Vastra and Jenny in Victorian crime fighting - he wouldn't be freaked out now he knows about Silurians... Er yes, I rather enjoyed the episode. RG was great!
