That's an interesting point!

Well, I'm just curious, really, as to what exactly is in this section! I'm 52, so I'm way over 18!!

What would you like to see on Sherlock Forum?
Douglas replied to Undead Medic's topic in Suggestions & Requests
This is just a thought, only, because it's probably far too difficult to set up, but I was thinking of a section on the Forum, whereby a separate thread was set up for each and every one of the 60 stories of the Canon, so that we could discuss each story separately and at length, including the strengths and weaknesses of the story, etc. Anyway, just a thought. -
Yes, I agree: John Hillerman was excellent in MAGNUM, P.I., with his british accent! Also, the american actress, the late Lee Remick could put on a very good english accent.

I've only seen a few of the Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes and Nigel Bruce as Dr Watson movies, but they've all been good. In fact, I thought that their THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES was better than the Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES, as the Rathbone one had more mystery and suspense associated with it; especially in relation to The Hound itself. Has anyone seen most or all of the Basil Rathbone Sherlock Holmes movies?

An excellent story, and I'm glad that Dr Watson does marry Mary Morstan. Strangely enough, though, Dr Watson doesn't even declare his love for Mary, to Mary, in the Jeremy Brett movie-length version of The Sign of the Four!

Which Actors Would Make A Good Sherlock?
Douglas replied to Undead Medic's topic in General Sherlock Holmes Discussion
Well I reckon Christopher Lee, especially in his younger day, would have made a great Sherlock Holmes! He was such a good actor, with such wonderful poise, and a wonderful voice. -
Your Favorite of the Original Four Novels Poll
Douglas replied to Carterofmars's topic in The Casebooks.
I voted for THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES, because, altough I found all four novels to be good, I found THE HOUND had the best pace and level of excitement. -
My favourites are: The Speckled Band; The Copper Beeches; The Hound of the Baskervilles; The Boscombe Valley Mystery; The Blanched Soldier; The Lion's Mane; The Devil's Foot; A study in Scarlett; The Creeping Man; In that order, and to name just a few.

I've just started watching the entire Jeremy Brett Granada Television series of Sherlock Holmes on DVD, in order of date of broadcast, and I loved Jeremy Brett/Sherlock Holmes' protrayal of a simple labourer, in A SCANDAL IN BOHEMIA, and in fact, found it fascinating and compulsive viewing! He obviously had Irene' Adler completely fooled with that disguise, anyway!

Although I prefer Edward Hardwicke's Dr Watson to David Burke's Dr Watson (but only just), I'm finding David Burke's Dr Watson rather endearing, I must say!! Some of his facial expressions, in response to some of the things Holmes says, are priceless!!

Yes, I wasn't aware of this; I'll read John's blog, soon, when I get a chance. I can see the puns, though, in those titles you mentioned, of course.
-
Thanks for that, Bakerstreet Irregular; I didn't know that! I might see if I can find and watch, some more of the Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce, Sherlock Holmes movies, on YouTube.

Hi Carol, no THE PEARL OF DEATH isn't a Canon title; I've never seen this one, either, but gee, wasn't Basil Rathbone an excellent Holmes!! In my humble opinion, I rank Jeremy Brett as the best Sherlock Holmes, followed very closely by Basil Rathbone, as Holmes! Both played an excellent Holmes, in my opinion!
-
Hi Bakerstreet Irregular, Thanks so much for the nice welcome, and it certainly is good to be here. Yes, I must admit that I've never seen THE PEARL OF DEATH, but I can imagine that it was good, mainly due to Basil Rathbone as Holmes. That's right: I do remember the Second World War references and themes in them, now that you mention it. And yes, MORIARTY: now, wasn't he played by that excellent character actor, LIONEL ATWELL?! Excellent stuff, indeed!!
-
Hi Carol, Well, I've seen a few of the Basil Rathbone portrayals of Holmes, and apart from THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES, the others I saw had their own stories, and were only very loosely based on the Conan Doyle Canon. They were very well done, however, as Rathbone made an excellent Holmes!
-
Hi Bakerstreet Irregular, Thank you for that information, because I wasn't aware of that. At this stage, I seem to be stuck in a Jeremy brett time-warp!
-
Good points, Bakerstreet Irregular!! I hadn't thought about Jeremy using his Bi-Polar disorder (and I don't mean that in a mean or judgemental way) to portray the same in Holmes, but upon reflection, I think you're right!! That's an excellent analysis! Yes, I've read all the Arthur Conan Doyle stories, and I own the complete Jeremy Brett series on DVD, and for me, Jeremy was the definitive Sherlock Holmes. To be fair, however, I haven't seen any of the portrayals of Holmes, since Jeremy Brett's portrayal.
-
I'm the same! He was brilliant, wasn't he!
-
Jeremy Brett, as Holmes, was simply brilliant!!

Hi Undead Medic and Hi Carol the Dabbler, Thank you both for your kind words of welcome; it's nice to be here on this wonderful forum!
