Right, and figures can always be called into question, anyway.  There's no such thing as an infallible study or statistic (as I think everyone is well aware).  Honestly I don't think it even needs to be studied anymore at this point, I think it's common sense.  Everyone knows teenagers sleep a lot, and everyone knows that younger kids are up bright and early (whether because they go to bed early or because it's just what their bodies like).  If it weren't common experience, I wouldn't see so many depictions of it on TV, where little kids are running to their parents rooms trying to wake them up in the morning, or sneaking downstairs early to watch TV, or parents are trying to drag their half-asleep teen out of bed to get ready for school.  We already know this, we just don't realize we know it, and we don't want to accept it as common knowledge until we study it to death and prove it to ourselves with data.

That said, I understand the need to discuss and gather facts and not make wild changes too quickly.  As always, there are many factors at play.  But we're taking an awfully long time figuring out something we already know to be true, and while we're dawdling with study after study, kids are being negatively impacted.

(I'm sometimes overly passionate about proper sleep, by the way, if you couldn't tell, lol.  It has a huge effect on our lives, our health and our brains that goes largely unacknowledged.)
