Wow, thanks :blush2: . I thought it's kinda bland, and I've seen much better ones on the web, but I wanted to make mine own for this.

And I actually do have one well-not-really-secret web identity, which I use whenever I try out something stupid and/or embarassing, like the afternoon I was bored enough to take a look at Second Life (was an interesting experience, to put it in neutral terms). But of course I proudly enlisted in Watson's War using my standard user name :).

Oh, well, truth be told, I have a spare identity for just such purposes, too.  That seems kinda silly, since I'm already more-or-less anonymous as Carol the Dabbler -- but I've used the Dabbler name for so long that it feels like I've got a reputation to protect!

Exactly :). I've been part of Lum's Broken places as Caya since 1998, I've married people online in one MMO and led raids in another one, and there's probably some of my old HP fanfic still floating around in some places ... this may not be my real name, and there's little overlap between the corners of the net I hang out in, but still, it's kind of an identity.

In the Great Tree of Avalon series, one of the elements is LightDark.  I found this fascinating, because it meant that these two were in fact not conflicting entities, as they were in most stories, but in fact one thing.  I'm also a bit obsessed with Phoenixes, because I love the idea of rebirth.  I wasn't very well treated when I was at school, and I liked the idea that when I left I would be like a Phoenix risen from the ashes.

Hello, Lightdarkphoenix -- welcome to Sherlock Forum!   :welcome:   We hope you like it here!

I'm guessing that you might also be a Harry Potter fan?  Not that you'd like the stories merely because there is a phoenix in them, but rather because they're the kind of stories that would have a phoenix in them (if that makes sense).

Hello!  ;)   My name is Jane Z. Tiana because... it is my name  :)  Real name, made to look like English, of course. It is River Song from Doctor Who on my avatar, because I try to learn English culture, and I've understood that British TV series are the best!  So much wonderful characters... I love Moffat

Hi, Jana / Janie -- welcome to Sherlock Forum!  :welcome:  We're glad you found us!

I think your avatar is really cool, and very distinctive!

I'm a massive Tolkien fan since my childhood, so whenever I want to register to a message board, I usually pick up a cool name from this fantasy world. Who is Earendil? You can take a look here: http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/e/earendil.html

Oddly enough I've learned about BBC Sherlock from a Tolkien message board. Fellow forum members raved about it, so I decided to gave it a go. After the first 10 minutes I was hooked and became a fan of the series.

My avatar picture is made by Nartemide from deviantart.

Hello, Earendil. Elf-friend and Star voyager. Welcome to the Sherlock Forum. I to am a Tolkien fan, but I knew Sherlock Holmes before Tolkien became a fixture in my life. So glad to have you be able to cross over.

Thank you for welcoming me, Bakerstreet Irregular. :)

I can't remember whether I was first a Tolkien fan then became a Sherlock fan or vice versa, because it happened long-long time ago. :) I was a kid in the 80's when I watched Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes and about the same time I've read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Since then I'm huge fan of both worlds.

I read my first Sherlock Holmes story when I was around 8 years old. I didn't discover Tolkien until I was in my early twenties.

Oooh, then you missed having a crush on Aragorn in your teens .

Welcome, Eärendil :welcome: ! The fandom correlation between Sherlock and Tolkien seems to run just as strong as, say, Star Trek or Hogwarts, so you'll find many kindred spirits here - didn't SH/LotR/Zelda Fan post something about the Silmarillion in some other thread?

I probably did. It's very me.

I watched LOTR for the first time in...erm apparently it was only January, then I read it (and a ton of other Tolkien books) and I'm currently reading Unfinished Tales. Sherlock came in around March or April or whenever they put s1 on again in the UK. It was the taxi scene. And it took me about 1 min to get absolutely hooked.

So many Tolkien fans here! I'm a Tolkien fan too. I actually found out about Sherlock thanks to the first Hobbit film when I started looking for other films with Freeman  :)

I discovered Tolkien and Star Trek ages ago, just a few months apart, so of course I've been very happy with some recent movies -- and it sure didn't hurt that I had in the meantime become addicted to Sherlock!  Even though I had watched the Jeremy Brett episodes when they were on PBS (and enjoyed them greatly), I didn't become anything of a Holmes buff till recently.  But Bilbo has always been my favorite Tolkien character!

I think many fans share the same story: they just followed their favourite actors and found new fandoms. :)

As I mentioned earlier I was already a Sherlock/ACD fan, but I didn't know about BBC Sherlock till the first Hobbit movie came out.  And since then I'm also "Cumberbatched". He is such a brilliant, highly talented actor.

I came across them not-through-actors, actually before LOTR and Sherlock I didn't notice actors at all...my family would be watching a film and say "oh, that's Benedict Cumberbatch (or whatever)!," and I would be like "...who's he...?" And they would explain and I still wouldn't understand :)

Maybe you are just too young for this!  :P Time will come. Sooner, than you think.  ;)

Thank you, Caya. :) Are you from Vienna? I'm from Budapest, so we live quite close to each other. ;)

Yeah, I'm from Vienna - maybe the two of us (plus Janie, she can't be far either) should plan a Sherlock Streaming Party when S3 airs :).

Yes, he is. I remember, when I first saw pictures from Sherlock, I thought that he was very unattractive and that I probably wouldn't like this character. I was so wrong!  :D
