I chose "Bakerstreet Irregular" because I'm not exactly homeless but I do seem to have ended up crashing on friend's couches the last few years. I'm not a "Sherlock Holmes" or Dr. Watson, but I do love a good mystery. The background for the avatar was very intriging to me and very beautifully mysterious and Holmesian. I love the mysteries left behind by the stone circle builders and Sherlock loved roaming the moores and studing the history of the ancient Britians.

I can see your avatar on your profile page, Bakerstreet, and you're right, it's lovely (in the American sense!). But all I see on your posts is the default silhouette. I don't always get all the avatars to load, but those that fail to load tend to show up as just a small empty rectangle, so something's odd here.

What do you see? And anyone else?

That is strange because I can see the avatar right now as I am posting this. It will be interesting to know what others are seeing indeed.

I can't see your av unless I go to your profile page either (it's v nice btw). I just get the default silhouette thing showing up on posts.

For some reason the picture was appearing in Bakerstreet Irregular's profile but wasn't showing up in forum posts. I have re uploaded it and it should now be working.

I was wondering what magic had occurred overnight. Thanks, Tim!

Sometimes I just get an empty box with an X in it, but I've always assumed it was my poor quality browser and internet connection.

"Bakerstreet Irregular" is a great name and well thoughtout.

The 221 in my name stemmed from the fact that their already is a Sherlocked, with your name being so different you did not have to do that!

Carol asked me about by username/avatar on the introduction page, but I'll add a blurb here as well. Solitary Cyclist is one of my favorite canon stories, and both my husband and I enjoy bicycling ( a lot!). The avatar is a picture of my bike on a trail in southern Indiana...solitary, of course :)

Thanks, Beth! That is a beautiful photo -- would look good framed, I'll bet.

By the way, if you'd like to keep signing your posts (which I think is a nice touch), you can do it more easily by typing it just once into the signature block on your profile page. It works just like typing in a post, with all the same available features.

You might also want to go back and edit your first few posts, to remove the now-redundant original signature. (Sorry, didn't think of that!) But that's only if you're obsessive about that sort of thing too, in addition to Sherlock!

Biscuit is the name of the first (and only) teddy bear I made circa 1997, when I started to be active on Internet. So when I had to choose a handle, this came naturally. My avatar is a doll by Marina Bychkova.

I can't resist asking -- is your Biscuit Bear any relation to the Cookie Monster? :cookie:

[My apologies, chironsgirl, for borrowing your favorite smiley. You can have him back now.]

Who can resist the trust worthy, loyal canine companion to the Great Detective? Even if the scent of tar might throw of that mighty nose once in awhile.

Nope, sorry. I must admit, I'm not very familar with the cookie monster. I do know the sock eating monster though, the one who lurks in the tumble dryer or washing machine. :P

Sorry! I was wondering if that might be an American in-joke, and so it is (unlike the sock-eating monster, which appears to be a true international threat). Cookie Monster is a character, played by a shaggy blue Muppet (large puppet), on an American children's television show called Sesame Street, and also in several Muppet movies. There are several Cookie Monster videos on YouTube (which presumably include his distinctive voice), but I cannot preview them due to my slow internet connection, so I shall merely post a link to Cookie Monster's Wikipedia page.

"Shangas" was one of my many nicknames in school.

I'm afraid to ask why!

I just had loads of them. I dunno why. But that was the most common one.

Caya was the name of a pen&paper rpg char of mine, a fighter I rolled up in my late teens and kept playing all through my twenties (our group has since moved on to other worlds, but I don't think she's hung up her sword just cause I'm not around to watch her wield it anymore ;)). So whenever I started an RPG or MMO on the computer, her name became my default char name. Caya's raised her sword (and the odd lightsaber) against injustice in many, many worlds by now, and I figured she would hold her own among Watson's Warriors . No, seriously, it's just become my to-go name on forums because online friends tend to know me by that name.

About the avatar, I tried to make a suitable one by now, but it's likely to change again - I'm not really satisfied with it, but my photo-editing skills are close to nonexistent.

I like the fact that your warrior avatar would stand up for Dr. Watson in defense of Sherlock Holmes. Salutes to you.

I, too, like your avatar -- for one thing, it's refreshing to see a John Watson among all the Sherlock Holmes avatars here! -- and I've saved a copy on my computer.  It kinda reminds me of a postage stamp.

Like you, I have a standard user name that I use most places online.  I have no idea how some people keep track of all their secret identities!
