This is a discussion thread for the personal blog of Dr. John H. Watson, which is hilarious, and a great addition to the 'Sherlock' universe. Seriously, when I read it I almost feel as though the people are real :D Don't worry, though - I'm not delusional. At least, I don't think so...

I basically just want to start out with bringing up some of my favorite parts:

From The Empty Hearse :

"So yes. He's come back from the dead. Of course he has. Of course Sherlock Bloody Holmes could come back from the dead.

Turns out he'd faked his death because Moriarty had threatened those close to him. Including me. He'd gone into hiding, happy to leave me and everyone else thinking he was dead. He'd done it to save us but he hadn't trusted us enough to tell us what was really going on. Not sure I'll ever truly forgive him for that but as the saying goes, life goes on."

Sums up TEH pretty well, doesn't it? ;)

...

"So, yes. It's all good. Better than good. It's bloody brilliant. #sherlocklives means #johnwatsonlives."

Awwww!

...

And Sherlock's first comment to this thread would of course be:

"I see you haven't spent the last two years working on your writing technique."

...

Mrs. Hudson is so sweet:

"My boys! Back together!"

I've just noticed that in the blog posts during the hiatus period, Mrs. Hudson sometimes comments, asking John over for dinner or a drink, but he never replied :( Already then we got our first clue that he didn't keep in contact with her, but she tried.

Oh, goody, an excuse to go back and read the blog! And to try and figure out the identity of theimprobableone (my best guess is still Anderson.....)

Thanks for starting this thread, sherlockandjohn!  We've had a lot of discussions about John's blog, but never had a proper place for them before.

One of my favorite entries covers the wedding.  (I will say no more till everyone has a chance to read it.  And the comments!)

Just one caveat that's been mentioned before -- if we take the episodes as the truth, then the blog's entry dates appear to be fairly meaningless.  I believe it was Julia Mae who pointed out that John could not have met Sherlock in January as the blog says, because they arranged to meet at Baker Street at 7 pm, and the sun was still up.  Also, the blog says the wedding was in August, while the invitation shown in the episode says May.

The Death By Twitter case has John say the following about theimprobableone:

Sherlock was most interested by the fact that she'd closed down her Facebook account. He went through my blog and found someone he believed would know how to uncover her closed account and her deleted emails, just on the basis of how they wrote their comments. A person we knew as theimprobableone. Within half an hour everything Ceylan thought she'd deleted about herself was in Sherlock's inbox.

Now it's of course possible that Anderson has hidden hacking talents but I kinda doubt it.

I said it was my best guess, I didn't say it was a very good one! :D

There's some great bits in the blog. One of my favorites is John's first impression of Sherlock: "I think he might be mad. He was certainly arrogant and really quite rude and he looks about 12 and he's clearly a bit public school and, yes, I definitely think he might be mad but he was also strangely likeable. He was charming. It really was all just a bit strange."

Right the first time, John!

Closely followed by: "And the madman himself? He's fascinating. Arrogant, imperious, pompous. He's not safe, I know that much. I'm not going to be bored and I doubt we're going to be arguing about whose turn it is to pay the gas bill or what we're going to watch on the telly. And yeah, he is probably most likely definitely mad. But, he knows a couple of nice restaurants so he's not all bad." LOL, John, your priorities!

I think some of that is John's dry humor, rather than his sense of priorities.  On the other hand, maybe he's just looking on the bright side!

Ah, yes! John's first impressions of Sherlock... It's so much fun reading.

Now that you brought that up, I had to check if Sherlock made any comments to those posts, but he didn't. His first comment is to 'A Study in Pink', and it's pretty much what he says to John in person, too.

I noticed that Henry Knight left a comment on the blog after Sherlock's death, saying that he knew Sherlock was for real because of what he did for him. I'm sure lots of people could have testified to the same, yet they remained quiet, even when Sherlock's reputation had been destroyed. Kind of sad, if you are to think of it in a real life perspective. But I'm glad Henry spoke up. Makes sense, too, considering that his was the last case we saw before the fall. Also, Sherlock ended up being remarkably human and insightful with Henry (despite his complete arrogance and childishness in the beginning of that episode).

He remarked on it on his own website tho: http://www.thescienceofdeduction.co.uk/forum/page2

Thanks for pointing that out, Arcadia.  I rarely look at Sherlock's blog -- frankly, I find it kind of ... boring (which is only to be expected from someone whose idea of interesting is 243 types of tobacco ash).  But lest Sherlock's feelings be hurt by that, I should point out that I don't read John's blog all that often either.  Just not a blog-oriented person, I guess.

Watching TSo3 and just remembered this bit of John's (or, in this case, Sherlock's) blog http://www.johnwatsonblog.co.uk/blog/11august on the subject of the honeymoon:

"They've chosen to go somewhere hot and sunny with beaches and cocktails or something. To be honest, he talks about things and I phase out. She's the same. They're both perfectly acceptable friends in their own way but then they start talking and I wish I really had died."

That has got to be my absolute favorite part of the blog (sorry, John!). Question, Sherlock: How do you manage to stay friends with them if you'd rather they never talk? And I probably shouldn't find it so funny that he jokes about his "death," but here I do!

I agree that Sherlock's contribution is one of the more interesting parts of John's blog -- that and the comments.

I dearly love John as a character, but as a writer he can be pretty mundane!

Yes, I have to confess that at first I didn't even read through all of his stories. I glanced at them and then went to the comments. I think I've read all of it by now, though... Hm, or have I?

So, what are other people's theories on the identity of "theimprobableone" ?

There's an entire thread devoted to that question (but the most recent activity on it was just the day after you joined the forum, so it's no surprise you weren't aware of it).  You might want to pop over there and get things stirred up again.

Added:  Oops!  I see you did find that thread, the day after you joined.  Oh well, you might want to get it stirred up again anyhow!

Did we ever talk about Sherlock's blog entry for the wedding? For hidden within it is the following statement:

Anyway. I decided that I'd share with you a video of the wedding. It's a video of the photos of the wedding. Sadly there are no photos of the attempted murder. If there are any attempted murders at John's next wedding, I promise to take photos. (emphasis mine)

John later comments:

STOP POSTING ON MY BLOG! AND THERE WON'T BE ANOTHER WEDDING!

John Watson 11 August

Now the blog isn't quite canon and John Watson's multiple marriages aren't quite, either, afaik, but that still sounded odd. Just a dig by Sherlock or possible foreshadowing?

You're reaching, Martina.  Really reaching.  :D

I think Sherlock is just being his usual oblivious self -- oops, I forgot, but I'll be sure to remember next time -- isn't that what people say when they've forgotten to do something?

Well, to be honest, if I were reaching it would be really, really hard in the other direction . As far as I'm concerned, Mary was already one wife too many for the good doctor and I sure don't want to see any more wife-shaped impediments to John moving back into 221B. And it's not as if Sherlock could top his best man speech ;).

I just took it as Sherlock being a jerk (in that teasing, brotherly sort of way) and needling John a bit.  John took the bait and Sherlock got the reaction he was looking for.  Sherlock does seem to want to torment John sometimes lol. Love that blog.
