There's some RL actor shipping in the Outlander fandom as well, which apparently honks off the actors, and which William Shatner spends a significant portion of his day on Twitter fighting.

Unlike so many of the pornographic JohnLock fan arts.

Gad, I remember the first one of those I ever accidentally saw.  I may be scarred for life.  They were doing things that I still am not sure is possible without a yoga class and a physical deformity.

I don't think BC sees MF as a mentor figure given that they are so close in age. And there are all different configurations in fanfic of who is the 'top' and who is the 'bottom,' and ridiculously numerous wars over it.

I always hate it when hosts trot out fanworks in an effort to try to make actors squirm. It's all a bit silly; these are grown men, they are pretty savvy to the ways of the world, how shocked are they really going to be?

William Shatner spends his days on Twitter in defense of Catriona Balfe and Sam Heughan to *not* be hooking up?  Why is Bill involved?  Neither actor is Canadian.  Please don't tell me that Bill appears in Season 3!

For a man of his advanced though incredibly energetic years, one supposes that he might want to do something else with the limited time he has remaining than waging Twitter wars.  But on the other hand, good for Bill, being so conversant with technology as an octogenarian.  My mom can't even work her DVD player!

ROFL!  That wins Hikari's Post of the Week award!!  :D

There is no call for hosts to trot out porn about actors and try to embarrass them.  It is a kind of sexual harassment in a way, not to mention a violation of the implicit public figure/fan relationship. Somehow, we broke down the social norm that public figures put themselves out there, fans are free to have fantasies as they wish, but when the two interact, they both pretend like the fantasies don't happen.

Yeah!  Post of the Week - my work here is done.

Yes, Shatner spends a lot of time on Twitter defending Catriona and Sam.  He apparently knows them both and knows that they get upset over the shipping, and he regularly fights these super-fan types who insist he is wrong.  It's really pretty funny, and I love Shatner spending his days on Twitter like someone a quarter of his age!

I don't think mentorship is predicated on a huge age difference.  Martin is 5 years the elder, but I was thinking in terms of life goals, professionalism and whatnot.  Benedict went supernova very quickly, but Martin did have a few more years of working life under his belt.  Also Benedict has spoken admiringly in the past (and with some wistfulness) about Martin's family life and how he wished for the same.  Ironically, their personal situations have been reversed in the last few years.  Now Ben is the one with the grounded and happy family life that Martin used to have (or appeared so.)

BC has stated that MF has given him valuable pointers in doing Sherlock's comedy scenes. At one point, he referred to that tutorage as "a master class.". (Judging by the results, I'd say he's a very apt pupil.)

Gorgeous, talented and modest, too.  Benedict is a beautiful human being.  With his level of celebrity, he could be a huge knobhead, but he seems like a grounded, grateful and genuine person.  No diva antics from him.

Ben has been Oscar-nominated a few times already in a very brief span of time and has done some amazing non-Sherlock work, including portraying a number of famous people, both living and dead, and building his Shakespearean repertoire in preparation for his future knighting as Sir Benedict.  Bilbo Baggins aside, Martin Freeman has had the more modest, slower-burning career, though he was already a star on British television while Ben was still in drama school or off teaching English in his Nepalese monastery.  Personally, my first encounter with our future John Watson was in 'Love Actually' as one-half of the nude stand-in couple.  Little did I realize back in 2003 how much 'Nude Guy' would figure in my life later!  After "Sherlock" hit the airwaves, I searched keenly for everything our two leads had appeared in previously.  Benedict gets most of the press,  but I want to direct everyone's attention to Martin Freeman's turn in the Peter Greenaway-directed "Nightwatching" (2007), in which he plays Dutch master artist Rembrandt van Rijn.  The physical resemblance is astounding, but beyond that, it gives you a taste of Mr. Freeman's capabilities as an actor which have not be tapped in his higher profile work.  He has no problem with doing kit off scenes because he's got more of 'em as Rembrandt.

His one-season stint on "Fargo" was a tour-de-force that will blow your mind.

Martin did get his start in comedy.  'The Office', of course--but before that, there was a short-lived ensemble sketch comedy show called 'Bruiser'.  Queue up YouTube and watch Martin's one-man comedy repertoire as "Gary" (with Olivia Colman as his long-suffering wife) or the "Over-Analysing" Guy.  Warning:  do not drink beverages while watching because they will come out your nose and short out your keyboard.

Agreed -- although technically he didn't really get his start in comedy.  He did quite a lot of other things first (on both stage and television), and then after about a decade of hard work became an "overnight" success in The Office.

His Bruiser skits have been very thoughtfully put together for us by someone called dradra13, and can be most easily accessed by searching YouTube for

I'd say comedy actors actually have much more potential to hold other roles, especially dramatic ones.

Comedy is difficult.

Martin is one, I long for the day that I could make my bluetooth speaker works to watch Fargo. I always have problem concentrating and listening lately because I multi task that I avoid shows that need full focus, including S4 rewatch that I desperately need.

Another great actor who graduates from comedy is Bryan Cranston. I always enjoy his performance even when he was a goofy dad.

All these again, make me pity actor's lives. How awkward would those things be?

And social media doesn't help, I always wonder how celebrities survive in modern social media time, unless they don't really look at them, which I believe so.
