Big Chief Studios have released the price list for these beauties. Now I don't know it I can afford them especially since I am trying to save money for a trip to England, on top of everything else. Darn it all.

No kidding!  (And for any Americans who don't do an automatic mental conversion, one pound is about $1.50.)

Holy cow! That's almost a thousand dollars American? Nope...as much as I hate to pass this up, I can't afford it and if something happened and they got broken.....to much of a risk for me right now.

Posted

Oh good heavens, no -- they're expensive, but not quite that expensive.

Let's see, the autographed set (i.e., both of 'em) is about $660, and the non-autographed set is $510.  Or if you want just one or the other, an autographed figure is $330, non-autographed is $255.

I'll double-check the figures, but am gonna go ahead and post this before you have a heart attack!

Added:  The dollar is down a bit right now, so one pound is more like $1.62; at the moment the prices are about $712, $550, $356, and $275.  But those will continue to fluctuate.

Still though, that's...I mean...If you're a complete fanatic and just happen to have a few hundred pounds lying around, then great, go for it.

Posted

No, I'm not that fanatical nor am I that well heeled. I'm passing on it. I want to go to England and see London for myself a whole lot more then I need a doll like that.

Posted

Hey, they're not dolls, they're action figures!   :P  Silly woman, I bet you refer to GI Joe as a doll.

Posted

:lol5:   If they set in the original box because they're of more value that way, and I'd not be playing with them anyway....then to me they would just be dolls.

Posted

Oh yeah -- so why bother.

I'm still hoping someone will come out with actual decent-quality (reasonably priced!) action figures.  That'd be fun!

That's a very good question, Doctor.  Thanks for letting us know that you've been having a problem with Big Chief.  I've heard nothing new since October.  I'm sure you're not the only person wondering, so I will contact Sherlockology and see what they know.

Oh -- and welcome to Sherlock Forum!  :welcome:  (Seems like I've heard of you somewhere before, though.)

PS:  Finally got their "Timeline" thumbnail page to load, with links to a few additional photos.  Worth checking out, if you haven't already.

Thanks Carol, love all the figures - so clever B)  especially the Dr Who models. I thought the busts of Benedict and Martin looked better without the colour, very scultured like.

I heard back from Sherlockology today, regarding these action figures:

Hi Carol,

Far as we know the ordering system they had was only for a limited time only which is why you can no longer order them as they had a limited run.

Like you we've not heard from Big Chief in months either. We've not posted any news regarding them as since the pre-ordering they've not posted any more news on the subject of their Sherlock figures.

The only thing we can suggest is you maybe try contacting them via their Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/BigChiefStudiosLimited but from looking they don't seem to respond that often to queries on that either - although they seem to be actively posting still.

Sorry we can't be much more help,

Regards,

-Team Sherlockology-

These products are still listed on the Big Chief web site, however, so I have sent them an email, and will let y'all know what/if I hear from them.

I went to their website yesterday and paid for the first instalment for both the figures.

They have a payment plan where you can pay for them in 4 instalments, which is amazing and the only way that I could afford them before they sold out, as I only found out about them less than a week ago!

I e-mailed Big Chief and asked them how many of the signed pairs were left and got this reply: "We have around 50 pairs still available right now. The sales have been steady for these so you should be fine until next week, but I would not leave it too much longer if you would like a pair."

I didn't want to risk not getting the signed versions, so I made the first payment already. They only ship after all payments are made, which of course is smart on their part, but the dolls are still on pre-order at the moment, so I have no idea when people that already paid for them completely will start receiving them. I hope it is around the same time I finish paying for mine. I am utterly in love with those dolls and it seems like a dream I managed to pre-order one of the autographed pairs!

The only Sherlock Holmes doll I have is not a Ben doll, it is a little thinkers Sherlock doll I bought at the Sherlock Holmes museum in 2010, he sits on my bookshelf nearby my Sherlock Holmes books.  :sherlock:

Welcome to the forum, Engel!

And thank you for the heads-up! You seem to be an avid collector.

Yes, welcome to Sherlock Forum, Engel!  :welcome:

Please keep us posted as you hear more, and especially when you actually receive the *ahem* action figures!  ;)

Wow, well-detailed and fully articulating figures they are! No surprise they would sell out fast. I was hoping Side Show Collectibles or Kotobukiya could make figurines of them as they make great ones of many licensed movies/shows.

Posted

Thanks for that info, Magpie.  I hadn't heard of those other manufacturers before, so I looked them up.  Sideshow Collectibles seems to specialize in Star Wars and Batman figures for a few hundred apiece, and Kotobukiya (USA) handles Japanese imports which I'm guessing aren't cheap either.

I have a few collectibles from Sideshow, Carol, and they are worth the price in craftmanship.  Though the Big Chief dolls have all- material clothing which makes up much of their charm!

Well, it apparently won't be much longer before Big Chief will start shipping these figures.  Here's a look (via Sherlockology) at a sample run:

Here is the Pre-production samples from our factory. Please Note these are the first samples for our approval. We have made some changes and sent them to the factory. Some minor paint changes to make and tweaks to some of the tailoring. But overall we think these are looking great....

You can see more photos on Big Chief's facebook page.

They should have stuck to the prepainted versions. They really dropped the ball on Sherlocks eyes and what in the world did they do to John's face!:o
