Graham Norton Show - Oct. 24, 2014 with Benedict Cumberbatch
Convict13 replied to sfmpco's topic in The News Stand
I really like the Graham Norton show, but I can see how people would find him a little annoying, but I always think that he brings out the best in his interviews, and a good "star" would do their research and at least watch one of his shows so they know what to expect. I did once see an interview where the person who was a musical guest at the end came to the sofa and was so either terrified or just plain rude; I cannot remember who it was, it was a woman but I can't remember her name, she isn't well known, well at least I'd never heard of her before. -
They discuss this very subject on Graham Norton this week, very funny indeed.

I just watched the Graham Norton show, Benedict meets Cumberwax . A friend of mine from Australia was visiting Europe over the last few weeks and she go to see the Cumberwax in the "flesh" so to speak, she was impressed. Here are some photos from The Graham Norton Show. I wonder how they transport the wax figures? http://www.hellomagazine.com/celebrities/2014102421574/benedict-cumberbatch-waxwork-figure-madame-tussauds/

I seem to be placing up a lot that Mark is up to lately, so thought perhaps rather than a new topic each time perhaps he should get his own "news" topic. I couldn't see that one had been done before. Anyway just thought I would pass on the following link http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01nmsw7 Actor and writer Mark Gatiss embarks on a chilling voyage through European horror cinema. From the silent nightmares of German Expressionism in the wake of World War I to lesbian vampires in 1970s Belgium, from the black-gloved killers of Italy's bloody Giallo thrillers to the ghosts of the Spanish Civil War, Mark reveals how Europe's turbulent 20th century forged its ground-breaking horror tradition. On a journey that spans the continent from Ostend to Slovakia, Mark explores classic filming locations and talks to the genre's leading talents, including directors Dario Argento and Guillermo del Toro.

Benedict Cumberbatch in "The Imitation Game"

hehe..sex sells sadly. so, the choice of keira is not for turing's benefit (who could care less BTW), but for the male audience's and for the female audience, to identify with the character. besides, benedict looks nothing like alan. so there you go. Yeah, but from what I have seen, they at least made an effort to make him look like Mr Turing, and not on turning his natural good looks to the best advantage. As for identifying with an attractive female character, why should I? They don't represent me... they tried a little, but he still looks his handsome self. the director surely chose benedict cause of his talent but also of his popularity, which is partly due to his looks. of course not all people find him attractive, in fact many don't, but he still considered so by a good number of people, who follow his career, go and see his films, buy the magazines he appears on etc. when it comes to identification with female characters on screen, it's a general process. generally, if a girl likes the hero, she could identify with the hero's girl. but it's obviously not automatic. I don't dislike keira at all, but she's not one of my fave actresses. By course choosing Benedict and Keira for the main roles it helps to actually get the movie made, with the budget that they would want. Investors are going to be happy to invest more money in a movie with two very "popular" stars in the leading roles, and the more money that comes in the director and producer are able to make the film to the standard that they want. I was a bit of on the fence with Keira until I saw Atonement, that movie changed my mind about her. -
I watched Martin's Who Do You Think You Are today and it was really good firstly it's an sad story about about his grandfather and interesting about his great-grandparents, secondly he has a brother called Benedict (not Ben, but Benedict) I was surprised at that it isn't a common name I don't think, and thirdly he has a lovely house.

Here is a different take on the Sherlock stories; Sherlock Jr, written and directed by Buster Keaton(my other love). I can't believe I never thought about the connection until yesterday. So Sherlock Jr has to solve the case of the missing watch, it is truely one of Keaton's best and lots of fun. The cinema scenes were an inspiration to Woody Allen (Purple Rose of Cairo) and it's also the movie where Buster actually broke his neck(but didn't realise, he did have headache or a few days after), anyway. As another version of the Sherlock story I thought I would share. I love that Sherlock Jr's Watson is actually called Gillette. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlJmtedcnp4

I too enjoy the movies for Rathbone, but find the bumbling Doctor Watson a little annoying.
-
I get the "don't see Benedict", I too find that he seems to disappear into Sherlock, but I find that he does that with most of his roles, I think that is what makes him such a strong actor.

Flaunt is the magazine I believe, I don't actually know it myself I assume it is a UK based magazine. The photos that I have seen are really good, great lighting and quite atmospheric.

There is one thing that Sherlock does that is very Sherlock in TSOT, he doesn't invite anyone else to the Stag night (I assume as he is the best man he would do the inviting). He doesn't think to ask Myrcoft, although we all know he won't come, but neither does he invite Mike or Greg , both of whom I am sure would love to come, you could even think that perhaps that is part of the reason that Greg yells at them in their hungover state the next day, he was annoyed for not getting invited, that and he probably was just enjoying himself. Sherlock would never think that John needs anyone else there, or he didn't want anyone else there, that would mean having to engage in conversation with others, either way it's very Sherlock. You could argue how do we know they didn't get invited but choose not to come, well I'm assuming that if you invited 3 at least one of them would have come, but none of them are there.

It's more of a "highlights" of the interview whilst they are filming him.
