There's at least one on here - I have in no way seen all the episodes, but I have seen all the Doctors, including the ones that don't fit into the canon, such as Peter Cushing, Joanna Lumley and Richard E Grant. Tim will another, I expect.

Ah, I didn't check, but that's good to know. With it being National theatre live, I thought it was UK only. Brain dead again. Back to my cave I go.

National Theatre Live are doing encore screenings of Frankenstein this month and in November. If you've not had an opportunity to see Benedict and Jonny Lee Miller in this, either as The Creature or as Victor Frankenstein, then here's your chance to catch what is an amazing production. It's worth seeing both versions if you can, as both actors bring something different to each role, though personally Jonny is my favourite as The Creature and Benedict as Victor. For more info, such as where screenings are taking place, go to the relevant NTive page here.

And old time Scousers! I haven't heard 'het up' as much as I used to though.

Funny you should say that as the last song in the Sunday night disco was (I've had) the Time of my Life and Sean Maher did the whole 'lift' thing at the end with one of the attendees (with some help as I don't think he was completely sober). photo by Grant Gowdy

I think the only film I've seen at the cinema where the music has hit me in the gut and become an essential thing IMMEDIATELY was Gladiator. I came out of the film and got the cd asap. Highlander I and Queen's A Kind of Magic doesn't really count.

I've been at a Starfury convention over the weekend - Serenity Forever - and had the best time. We had a very special guest that we didn't know was going to be there in Bruce Boxleitner (Sheridan from Babylon 5 and he was also in the original Tron movie). Even more amazing we had a very special gatecrasher to the party on Saturday night - none other than Joss Whedon! I'm still recovering (which is why I've not been around). http://www.bigshinyrobot.com/56110/joss-whedon-crashes-serenity-con-london/ Bearing in mind that Starfury are running a Holmes convention in December (Loo Brealey is the only announced guest so far), this bodes quite well.

Sorry people, I've been running round like a headless chicken. I'm also going to be away from tomorrow with no access, which I forgot about, so if someone else wants to take my turn, that would be great. First to think of a quote gets dibs

The amazing redscharlach, the one responsible for the Benedict Cumberbatch Otter meme and maker of magnificent icons, has now got herself a redbubble shop so you can now get a selection of her Sherlock character icons as tshirts and the like. SHOP! Some examples of her work...

Sherlock Holmes made a Fellow of the RSC
aely replied to Bakerstreet Irregular's topic in General Sherlock Holmes Discussion
My dad is a FRSC, so I've got a connection to Sherlock Holmes (albeit a tenuous one). -
For the most true to ACD interpretation, I would also have to go with Jeremy Brett - he IS the Victorian Holmes, no doubt about it. Having said that, he's not my favourite Holmes - that's BC, because Sherlock is my favourite version.

I'm sure I have no idea what you mean... As for the house, it was also used in Doctor Who in Moffatt's Blink (the episode that introduced the Weeping Angels if you didn't remember), again obviously before that side of the house was done up.

1. I love the TV series and I like what they've done with the character. Having said that, as a person, Sherlock would still annoy the buggering hell out of me as he's such a stuck up, brainy git even while I would be finding reasons for him to get away with why he's like that. 2. If we go by what's on screen and not by wishful thinking, I would say John grounds Sherlock. He's his touchstone, the only connection to reality that Sherlock has found he can tolerate. That makes John a very special - even while he's a very human - man. 3. Only if it's convenient, or essential for a case. I don't think he has true belief in a higher power - as Irene Adler said "I think you’re damaged, delusional and believe in a higher power. In your case, it’s yourself." 4. I think as an adaptation, it remains very true to the spirit of Sherlock Holmes, more so than can be said of some others. That, coupled with its modern facelift, makes it stand out. 5. Can't comment as I've not read ACD. I actually have some books, I just don't have the time to read!

From my pov, no, there are no words left over - but that's Liverpool for you. Maybe elsewhere in the country there might be. I'd probably still call a significant other 'love' but the inflection would be different, as to me darling and sweetie always felt wrong.

and that Martin Freeman bloke might make a half decent hobbit...

u? I'm annoyed with myself - I know the first bit and the last bit and I can't remember the bit in the middle!
-
Then don't forget general terms like chicken, chick, hen (mostly in Scotland), pet, pudding, queen, doll and in Liverpool the ubiquitous "La" as in "ey la, giz a..." (which translates as "excuse me, my good person, could you give me a..."). I'm sure there are many more.
-
I can guarantee that if you go to Liverpool, you'll get called 'love' by pretty much everyone. "Ta, love" is a standard way of saying thanks. I always used to wonder what to call my exes as I spend all day calling everyone love. Darling also gets used indiscriminately, as does honey or hon and one of my Bristolian friends used to call everyone "my lover". In the end I think I rarely used any terms of endearment as they were all in everyday use to a greater or lesser extent (some of my good friends are sweetie for instance).

Another cricket inspired term is used when people die when they're older than average - "Oh, he had a good innings"
