Thank you, I once saw it in a television show called "Wire in the Blood", one of the characters called himself Domin8.

The difficulty of the task makes it more fun, and of course Doyle nor Moffett and Gaties (?) intended us to really apply the DSM to our boy, but to me it's just another game. Bipolar is a heartbreaking disorder but just because our Sherlock might have it doesn't mean he's still not our Sherlock. They will NEVER diagnosis him in the show, so rest assured Sherlock will never be spoiled by that. Growth can come in any form and in any amount, growth will make him more resistant to the ravages of time, but I do hope he doesn't change too much or he might just become one of the normals.

Very well put T.o.b.y, however it was never my intention to actually label our dashing hero, only to speculate on his possible mental disorders. A show like this intends us to speculate and speculate we do. Psychopath/Sociopath were already mentioned and seemed boring to me at least to mention on my own, that's why I chose the other two, but sociopath/psychopath probably fit better at least to a degree. Sherlock is a miracle and it was so refreshingly brilliant of him to choose the side of the angles, but give us the right to speculate T.o.b.y.

Perhaps we're missing something, our Sherly is very narcissistic, maybe the reason why he says "sociopath" is because it sounds better? Asperger's (or mild autism as it is now called according to the DSM-5) is a disorder that Sherlock may look upon with disgust as it is perceived as a lacking rather than an asset (like being a sociopath may be viewed). Perhaps he wishes to be viewed as a caulis unfeeling meanie when he is in fact unable to perceive these emotions that he does feel but does not understand? This inability to understand emotions may be viewed as a handicap, one which he must hide. Of course this is just one theory and not one I support fully.

Hmm, it seems this darn thing also does it's "thing" on profile pages as well. Since my page reads, and has always read: "Irene Alder, known professionally as The Woman, flirts AT Sherlock Holmes. She’s not dead, and she wants to have dinner. She’ll take you and make you beg for mercy, twice; She provides "recreational scolding" for those that are willing to pay for it. There are many names for what she does but she prefers Domin8trix." So as you see I've gotten into some trouble as well with our filter. Oh well, Domin8trix will just have to do...

Well Anti-Social Disorder doesn't mean that they don't have any emotions or that they fake every emotion only that they can and often do. Sherlock may have Anti-Social disorder but was also genuine with Molly on both occasions that you mentioned. Of course I'm still staying neutral on this topic just for the fun of it!

Oooh, maybe! Molly does after all work at a hospital; she could probably very easily get her hands on some high grade amphetamines. Maybe she was at some point Sherlock's drug dealer? Maybe that was why she was so angry at him at the beginning of "His Last Vow"? (Either because he didn't buy the drugs from her, or perhaps they worked very hard to kick the habit together?)

Perhaps it extends from the fact that Jim doesn't like to pretend to be someone else (even though he can) so he just "goes with the flow" when it comes to any of his emotions; unlike Sherlock who keeps it all tightly wrapped. He just does what he wants...

Very interesting Carol... But on the funny side, Jim's parents must not have had a very strong imagination.. :D

So I was watching the show and wondering if Jim and Sherlock's personality quirks could be explained by a mental disorder so I've put this post together. I'd love to hear your thoughts! :D Perhaps they have Narcissistic Personality Disorder? The three main symptoms of Narcissistic Personality Disorder are: Demands for constant attention Exaggerated sense of self-importance Only other "special" people can understand them So lets examine them closely. Sherlock and Jim are always demanding attention either from the public at large, (John) or each other. They purposely "show off" and do things to "inspire" others. Next, they have an obvious sense of self-importance, they are constantly saying how "good" they are at their field. Finally Jim maintains the importance that Sherlock is "just like" him. Jim wants someone to understand him and to him the only one who can do this is Sherlock. Okay, so does this mean Jim and Sherlock have narcissistic personality disorder? Well most probably... Perhaps they have Anti-Social Disorder? Symptoms: Patterns of violent, criminal or unethical behaviour Often seen as sly, cunning, charming Also seen as irresponsible, shallow and unemotional They often feel no remorse Substance abuse is common The majority of sufferers are male So lets start with Sherlock first on this one. Sherlock can be seen committing violent acts (such as throwing that man out of the window in "A Scandal in Belgravia) and criminal acts (such as shooting the blackmailer in "His Last Vow"). Sherlock is quite sly and often cunning. He can sometimes be charming when he needs to be. He can sometimes be irresponsible and shallow. Sherlock is male. He seemed to show no remorse after he shot the blackmailer in "His Last Vow" and was quite unemotional about it. It is also well known at Sherlock has at some point had a substance abuse problem. Now whether this abuse is detrimental to him isn't the issue, just the fact that at one point or another he had this problem. Jim most obviously has patterns of violent, criminal and unethical behaviour. He is a very slyly cunning person who can also be seen as charming. However, is very shallow and most defiantly unemotional (emotional in the typical sense). He seems not to feel any remorse for any of his dubious actions and of course he is male. Jim appears not to suffer from substance abuse but may have (as we know little about his past). So do they have anti-social disorder? Perhaps, I think it may fit better for Sherlock even though Jim has had more intense criminal behaviour because Sherlock is both more unemotional and actively avoids relationships (except for John). So to clarify above I was not saying that Sherlock or Jim definitely had these disorders, I was just theorising if they might! :D Anyway, after all this I'd love to hear your theories or say why or why not Sherlock/Jim may/may not have these disorders.

I think we are missing an interesting thing we might speculate over... What, if anything, could Jim have on Molly Hooper? Assuming that MindTARDIS was on to something and Jim really was blackmailing Miss Hooper, then what did he have on her? I, as the mistress of protection, know just how powerful blackmail can be but what could be found in Miss Hooper's closet? Oh and something has just occurred to me, the fact that blackmail has always been a theme throughout the series with the introduction of the Woman and that villain from season 3 with his own mind palace who threw poor John into a bonfire. Perhaps naughty Moffett with continue the theme? So what do you think Jim might have on Molly?

Jim may have lost people; now if these people really mattered to him is another thing. My first thoughts are toward Jim having a "live-in normal" but as he said to our boy "I should get me one of those" meaning he's never have one, so lets move on. If Sherlock and Mycroft are at least similar to Jim then he wouldn't care too much about relatives like parents at least not that much, but perhaps if Jim had a sibling like Mycroft who was "like him" then maybe if he'd lost this person... As for his metal state, I don't think Jim has bipolar as this particular disorder is usually very erratic and I believe that Jim always has a firm grip on his emotions. I think those "jumps" from polite to anger is actually a highly calculated move to destabilise the thinking of anyone around him and designed to frighten others into believing that he "could do anything" when he probably won't since it would mess with his own plans. Jim doesn't have difficulty hiding who he is (remember when he was Jim the gay guy?) but he has spent his whole life trying to get to a position where he doesn't have to hide who he really is inside. Jim found a place where he was accepted as the villainess consulting criminal he really was and used this position to live out the life that he wanted, topped with as much chaotic "fun" that he wanted. So what do you think?

How about Shelly? or Shirley (like in Shirley Temple) or maybe even Sheryl? My personal favourite is Shirley, it sounds like something the Woman would call our boy when she was being nasty. Of course these names rely on us trusting that naughty Moffett and believing that the baby is a girl! He might surprise us all and it might be a boy. So really I think we all might be wrong! :D

I always find it really hard to balance the fact that Sherlock is supposed to be this "all knowing" being and then he mucks it all up and somehow doesn't realise that Jim is still alive! Or didn't know that Mary was an assassin (I by the way, did know that Mary was a liar; not only because she was suspect but because of those LIAR words that floated around her when Sherlock first laid eyes on her!) I actually love the "Endeavour" series and was at some point absolutely addicted to it, although I have never seen "Morse"

It's just I haven't been here in awhile and I wanted to update my profile! But I'm patient...

To get back more on topic, The alternative "reveal" scenes that they put in the show during the "Empty Hearse" episode are seemed to be designed to put doubt on ANY true answers given throughout the episode (assuming any of the answers were real...) There where many theories throughout the time before the show hit the screen; and I maintained over this period of time that the answer lied somehow in the WAY that Sherlock fell from St Bart's. (He fell straight down, face first, but landed on his side?) Now if the final "answer" that was said by Sherlock to Anderson is correct and he did fall onto a bouncy castle (turning at the last minute to land), it proves that I was right! Anyway. My point here is that because of these false scenes scattered throughout the episode "Empty Hearse" doubt is still on exactly what happened on the roof of St Barts. Which brings us back to the newest mystery, [season 4 spoiler ahead!] So Moffett's been bad and has been keeping us in the dark since the "Reichenbach Fall". Naughty Moffett! Thoughts anyone?

By your post it seems as if their is more than one book that raises money for UNDERSHAW. I was under the impression it was just "Sherlock's Home".
