Thank you for the warm welcome!

There's not a huge story behind it. In my younger years I adored everything about Italy (particularly the Renaissance) and Venice was always the place I wanted to visit. Passions have changed but my Username has remained the same for simplicity's sake.

Honestly, I first searched out a Sherlock Forum for collaboration on a fan fiction piece I'm writing. :-)

Well we have some amazing Sherlock fan fiction writers on this forum, as it happens. You might want to have a look around here and see who matches your style. Personally, I cannot sing Fox's praises highly enough (and I can attest that she is the kindest and most patient partner in fanfiction crime you can imagine) but go ahead and form your own opinion ;).

eta: You might also pick up a beta there if you're looking for one. I'd add a recommendation but I fear I'd be whacked if I did, as said person is swamped as is .

Hello everyone! I am from Los Angeles, California, and I currently live in Mesa, Arizona in the United States. I found this forum by googling "sherlock forum" and it was the first one that came up, haha.

Sherlock Holmes has been my favorite fictional character since childhood and I love this show dearly.

I just really want to find some cool friends that share my love of Sherlock Holmes. I am also at uni right now studying to become a neurosurgeon.

Follow me on Twitter and I will follow you back :-) @karinalexia7

Hello Karina and welcome to the forum! Glad you found us!

Neurosurgeon - wow, that is impressive. And if your aim was to find folks who share your love of Sherlock Holmes, have you ever come to the right place .

Hello everyone! First time ever posting in a forum (of any kind). I'm from the Eastern Shore of Maryland (USA). I always loved reading the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes when I was a child and now the the BBC TV series has put a delightful spin on my childhood favorite!

Hi, SemperVenice -- welcome to Sherlock Forum!  :welcome:  My brother-in-law used to live in Chestertown, so I've been to the Eastern Shore several times (beautiful place, but I do not care for that bridge!).

Hey, liveinthelbc -- welcome to Sherlock Forum!  :wave2:   I lived in Camarillo for a couple of years (the town, not the -- um, facility), and I recall the LA traffic with great clarity.  I hope Mesa is a more congenial environment for you.

I'm from Newport in South Wales which is about a 30 minute train journey from Bristol and like Bristol has had some of Sherlock filmed here.

I don't think so, the cemetery in that episode was in Newport my grandmother and grandfather are buried there, though you can't see them (Mostly because they're below ground ;))

... the cemetery in ["Empty Hearse"] was in Newport ....

I assume you mean the cemetery near the beginning, where we first see John and Mary.  Was that also the cemetery that we saw at the end of "Reichenbach"?  (Or was it merely pretending to be the same one?)

I kept thinking that I remembered something from S3 Setlock about filming in Newport, and a forum search turned up the kebab joint where Sherlock gets a bloody nose in "Empty Hearse."  Here's a link to a fan video, which describes the location as "Capel Crescent, Newport."

Newport is also the location of Chinatown from "Blind Banker," as well as the interiors of Irene's house ("Scandal in Belgravia") and the Lauriston Gardens house ("Study in Pink") -- both filmed in the same house!

Yes I believe they were both the same one.

Actually speaking of filming locations I was walking through Cardiff with a friend on the way to the cinema when we saw a load of people outside a cafe, when we went to have a look we could see some TV cameras there and one of the crew who was hanging around at the back said "I dunno why some many people are here it's nothing interesting, just Sherlock." my friend immediately turned to him and said "That's really interesting!"

This has been my Sherlock story.

Well, let's see -- the restaurant that doubled for Antonio's ("Study in Pink") is in London, so that wasn't it.

The Chinatown scenes in "Blind Banker" were apparently filmed in Newport, so presumably not that restaurant either.

There's the cafe scene in "Great Game," where John turns on the TV to show Sherlock who Connie Prince was.

The cafe scene near the end of "Scandal in Belgravia" was filmed in Speedy's, so that's out.

The fireside scene at the inn in "Hounds of Baskerville" was filmed somewhere in Wales, but presumably in that little village, not Cardiff.

Can't offhand think of any cafes in "Reichenbach Fall."

But to make up for that, they filmed in three restaurants in "Empty Hearse" -- the fancy place, the second place, and the kebab joint -- some of which may have been in Cardiff, not sure.

Not sure there were any restaurants in "Sign of Three," just a wedding reception (though I may be forgetting something).

And of course there's the cafe scene in "Last Vow," where Sherlock meets Magnussen.  No idea where that was filmed.

So they apparently let John eat on the average of once per episode.  Ultragonk, do you recall what year your story occurred?  That would narrow it down considerably.

Oh, OK -- thanks.  According to Sherlockology, Giovanni's is indeed in Cardiff.

They don't list the "Great Game" cafe on their locations page, but that would have been filmed before anyone had ever heard of Sherlock anyhow.  And the only "Last Vow" restaurant they list is the fancy one, which isn't in Cardiff.

So I'm pretty sure you must be right.

  • 2 weeks later...

I am from India. Lots of Sherlock fans here..

I watched Sherlock haphazardly at first... in bits and pieces. Then I got hold of all the seasons, and went for a marathon. I have been hooked ever since. Looking forward to the next season.

I'm not surprised to hear that there are lots of Sherlock fans in India -- there are several others who post on this forum from time to time.  I would say maybe you know them, but it's a big country!

Anyhow, welcome to Sherlock Forum, Sreetama!  :wave2:   We hope you have lots of fun here!
