Well English is the lingua france round here, but don't worry, this board has users from several continents and the native speakers are very tolerant regarding the way we abuse their poor language :).

Welcome to the Forum, Yoshi! So glad to have you here. This is truly an international family and we really get excited about all the members of different countries and cultures that come to play.

We do a pretty good job of abusing it ourselves sometimes!  But don't worry about your English, Yoshi -- the whole point of this forum is to share our ideas, and you're very easy to understand.

I do believe you're our first Israeli member.  Mazel tov!

I'm from Thessaloniki, Greece and currently introducing "Sherlock" to all my friends and relatives. "Don't call me until you've seen all 9 episodes so we can discuss it".

I'll let you know how many friends I'm left with! :)

Well I'm originally from London but was brought up mostly in Manchester so I class myself as a Mancunian. I now live in Lanzarote, Canary Islands. For anyone who doesn't know it, it's a tiny Spanish island just off the coast of Morroco in North Africa. It's a popular holiday destination for Europeans, particularly British, Irish and German but we have people from everywhere here, it's a real mix of people which is nice.

Don't think I ever "met" anyone from the Canary Islands before!  What sort of climate do you have?

Hot! Well most of the time. Right now it's warm through the day but a bit chilly at night, that usually lasts from late December to mid February and we can get some rain (sometimes torrential). The rest of the year it's pretty hot and in July - September it's ridiculously hot. We get a few 'calimas' a year too which is a heatwave / duststorm blowing over from Africa. They only last a few days but they're awful. Everything you touch is warm, the water from the cold tap comes out warm and there's just no cooling down, it's horrible. When that happens I wonder why the hell I moved here, but it passes and the rest of the time it's really nice, if you like sunshine :)

We get very little rain apart from occasional storms so there's not much greenery apart from cacti and aloe vera. The lanscape is very brown / orange. The island is basically just a volcano poking out of the sea.

Goodness, that sounds really different from anywhere I've ever lived.  Even southern California is very green in the wintertime (though it never rains the rest of the year) -- but it does get those hot, dry winds that drive everyone crazy (called "Santa Anas" there).

If your Santa Anas feel like a hundred hairdryers blowing when you go outside, then yes, that's like here during a calima.

Am i the only person from where Sherlock is actually mainly set? LONDON??

:sherlock:  :sherlock:  :o  :o

Nope, I was born in London but moved away when I was 5 so I don't remember it. But I guess I am technically from there. Which part are you from?

The wind blows really hard, and is very hot and dry (because is comes from the desert east of there) -- but maybe only 50 hairdryers' worth.  It's been twenty years since I lived in California, but what I mostly remember about the Santa Anas is how they set everybody's nerves on edge, often beginning a day or so before the wind starts.  They say it has to do with positive ions in the air.
