I think Alan Rickman would be great. No idea if he's ever played Holmes...

To be perfectly honest I'm not sure who could play the role of Sherlock Holmes, I mean after seeing Benedict Cumberbatch do this part I have higher standards now than I did before. Cumberbatch did an amazing job with the role of Sherlock I believe I have lost all of the others I thought could play this part.

Well I reckon Christopher Lee, especially in his  younger day, would have made a great Sherlock Holmes!  He was such a good actor, with such wonderful poise, and a wonderful voice.
