In addition to our Christmas schedule announcements, we can also confirm that we have a ‪#‎Sherlock‬ mini episode called 'Many Happy Returns'. "Sherlock Holmes has been gone for 2 years. But someone isn't quite convinced that he's dead." Many Happy Returns will be available online this Christmas.

Moved here from another thread:

Just wondering if anyone was aware of the news that there's going to be a special mini-episode on Christmas Day? I didn't know if it had been posted anywhere on the forum; I couldn't find it though, so here's a link if you weren't aware of it:

http://tv.uk.msn.com/news/sherlock-gets-christmas-outing

It looks like it'll be a UK-only thing though; it says it will be available via the red button on BBC.

Someone asked that question on Facebook and the answer was that since it's supposed to be online so accessed by anyone with a computer.

Right, the mini episode has been posted on the BBC's official YouTube account, no idea if it's region locked though.

And Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwntNANJCOE

I hope those of you not in the UK will be able to watch it. I checked on the official website but it's not up yet.

It's fantastic what they can do with seven minutes and twelve seconds!  The most surprising thing to me is Anderson's turn-around.  He's now a Sherlock fan?  And the beard's back?  Aren't they afraid people will think he's the villain again?  No, I suppose not.

(Isn't John supposed to have a mustache?  Or do I have my chronology mixed up?)

So what did you think about it?

I totally loved it - it gets you right back into the spirit! Really well done, as always...

It's not region locked! I was able to see it - thank you so much. That was just - great. Merry Christmas, everybody! (The first Christmas ever that I have my computer on after 12 p.m. - but totally worth it.)

It was still discussed here if Cumberbatch and Freeman would appear at all - lovely to see that they did. "A smile and a wink, people seem to like that"... :)

That mini-ep was all kinds of adorable! I love the wink and smile at the end!

And poor Anderson! But that beard needs to go. Or at least be trimmed up. He's starting to look a little Duck Dynasty. I'm guessing John only has the mustache for a few weeks before Sherlock comes back and he ends up shaving it.

Yes, that was certainly time well used.

I believe Moftiss said people who saw the pilot thought Anderson was a villain because they thought the beard was fake.  I don't recall that beard very well, but it looks like Jonathan Aris has a home-grown beard this time, which fits nicely with Anderson's distracted state of mind.

Like you, I'm puzzled about John's lack of mustache here.  My impression is that he has it at the very beginning of "The Empty Hearse," and I believe it takes a couple of months to grow one.  So does this take place that long before the first episode?

I am delighted to see that Ariane DeVere has already posted a transcript of the mini-episode -- great news for those of us who couldn't quite make out all the dialog.

A couple of months? I've known guys who could have almost a full beard after a couple of weeks (you should have seen half of the men in my family by the end of No-Shave November). I think it just depends on the man in particular and how well/quickly he grows facial hair, but I think John could have definitely grown the mustache we see in the pilot in a couple of weeks. If that's the case, it looks like he doesn't keep it for long. So it's not a "mournstache" as people on tumblr were guessing, but rather just a passing fancy.

What a great Christmas present! I loved it! I'm happy that both Cumberbatch and Freeman appeared in it.

But I wonder if they ever explain why Anderson changed his mind about Sherlock. He hated him and now he's his fan?

It would be about as embarrassing to admit how often I have watched this clip by now as the fact that I am commenting on it here on a Christmas Eve when the family supposes I'm asleep.

What a lovely Christmas gift to make this officially available worldwide. I hadn't expected anything so clever and funny. That "uncut birthday greeting" is absolutely hilarious. I kept sneaking off between things to watch it again: Luckily, at Christmas, nobody thinks it strange when you wander around with a fat smile plastered on your face and break into giggles now and then for no apparent reason. Tis the season to be jolly, after all...

There are lots and lots of references to "The Emtpy House" and other cases in there. I wonder whether Lestrade's carton is supposed to be a version of the tin box?

(Oh, by the way: none of the people speaking German in that one scene with the jury actually has a German accent except for one woman who only says "not guilty". ;) )

I'm guessing that some evidence came to light that proved Moriarty really was a master criminal, and that Sherlock really was exactly what he claimed to be.  That made Anderson feel guilty for having played a part in Sherlock's" suicide.  So when he started seeing signs that Sherlock wasn't actually dead, that was a great relief to him.  Apparently he went kinda overboard with it, though, and lost his job.

Could be kind of an echo, sure.

And I'm really amused by the chocolate Flake in the ice cream.  :giggle:

Wasn't it originally parsley in butter?

Yup.  On a hot day.
