People thought BC was a terrible choice for Khan, but he was magnificent.  Completely stole the movie.  Let's hope that magic happens again with Dr. Strange.

I think if the powers that be take some notes of the magic in Nicholas cage's version of sorcerers apprentice for Dr. Strange, then it won't be cheesy.

Oh, I think BC's perfect for the role, I meant I'm worried about how it will look. Costumes, special effects, etc. Hopefully they'll do away with Strange's blue tights, for one thing. :) No, wait, that doesn't sound right, I mean replace the tights with something less, uh, .... cheesy.

What is the Nicholas Cage thingy, Camper? I'm not familiar with that.

In 2010 Disney made a full-length live action film of Sorcerer's Apprentice based on the piece of classical music by that name and it's corresponding section in their movie Fantasia (the Nicolas Cage version even has a throwback reference to the Fantasia section).  That film has some great sfx/cgi for the sorcery that is not cheesy.

Thanks Camper, I will have to check that out.

Is Disney doing Dr. Strange?  Or are you just saying that the technology is available?

I'm saying the technology is available to make it done right.

YAY!!!! I thought it was an excellent script.

I saw that a couple of minutes ago.  Excited that it finally got an award for something.

Now just imagine if BC upset the whole predicted apple cart and won the Oscar - so he'd go home with his new wife and the Oscar with little baby on the way.

Wouldn't that be awesome?

Of course, if he doesn't win they could name the baby Oscar. Or Oscaretta.

It would be lovely if the English underdog won, but it looks very much like Redmayne. Frankly, I couldn't care less as long as it is NOT Michael Keaton, he ruined the three best Batman films, the first ones, by not being able to shoulder his role.

Odd -- I loved Keaton as Batman!  We just have different tastes, I guess.

BC and Keira in Los Angeles last night to promote TIG, and this Times-Talk interview was filmed.  Queue up to about 17:45 to begin.

I really want to watch The Imitation Game, but it's not in theatres anymore and they haven't released it on DVD yet!

We've pre-ordered it, but Amazon (US) hasn't yet announced a release date.  Amazon (UK) is accepting pre-orders for a March 9th release (though of course that's a Region 2 DVD).

Amazon (US) has now announced a March 31st release date for the DVD.

Yay!  But the price will initially be high, so I'll wait for a used one!

Dear friends, seriously? What did you like about him, his small and even slight stature, his patent uncertainty as Bruce Wayne, a billionaire playboy and philanthropist, or his inability to make the Batsuit believable? I have been a fan of the comics ever since I got parental permission to get one, and he is as out of place as anything. It should have been someone like George Clooney from the start, because by the time the light dawned on the producers, the whole Batman thing had gone wrong.  It took Christian Bale to kickstart the whole concept again. Would you have ever liked to see a slight weakling as Superman instead of Reeves? Just asking, mind you.

Anyway, I got off topic again, what I originally wanted to mention is that BC's opening line in the film works wonders in class, especially when you use it in a slightly raised tone of voice if you see their eyes go blank or you sense that they are daydreaming, woolgathering, etc. Boton will certainly know what I mean, so recently there has been a lot of "Are you paying attention?" going on, which also allows one to hug oneself, since those who have seen the film are in a small minority. Whatever would we do, without dear BC providing helpful one-liners in mixed ability classes, bless him!

Never cared for the Batman as a character, actually, but I do remember enjoying Keaton in the role. It's been so long since I've seen the films I can't accurately say why anymore. But yes, a slight stature is extremely appealing to me! I do not care for bulked up "he-men," never have. Just a thing. So that may have been part of it. I thought Christian Bale did a good job too. But I remember thinking Clooney was horribly miscast, and I'm a big Clooney fan.

Never cared for Superman either ... I'm a Marvel girl! But Reeve was charming in the role, I liked him. So sad what happened to him.

I see the Oscar forecasters are giving the TIG script a chance of winning. What I loved about the script was that it was written like a mystery, with a non-linear (impressionistic!) construction -- and yet I had no trouble following it at all, like I usually do with that kind of script. Hope it wins.

That script should get as many awards as there are out there, despite the historical inaccuracies, which have been discussed at length elsewhere, but I think Redmayne stands a much better chance than BC, and it would be great if he got it for The History of Everything. I went to see Grand Budapest and it was nothing so much as a reworking of Pearl  Buck's Grand Hotel, and The Imitation Game twice (no bets as to why!) and the Hawking one, needless to say, I haven't seen Birdman, Keaton not really my thing.

Arcadia dear, I was always a DC fan, and the only times I read about Spidey were in the occasional crossovers. If you have read them, don't you think they are a good parallel of Dr Watson teasing Sherlock : Batman/Bruce always so deadly earnest and focused, Ra' as al Ghul's "detective" to the core,  and Peter Parker so much more human and joking, and pulling his leg constantly.

Speaking of which, did the creators get the IOU and the Kitty name from Puts in Boots?

I thought THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL would be a lark based on the trailers, but when I tried to watch it on the plane from London to Heathrow, I found it deadly boring.  I switched to MALEFICENT and was far more entertained.  Just my opinion.

Grand Budapest is just a reworking of Pearl Buck's novel Grand Hotel.

What has driven me to distraction in the Imitation Game, is his epiphany in the pub/ dance floor where the other girl talks about her corresponding number using that word, when it is known that their first breakthrough, and the first code they broke, was the Luftwaffe one, because their operators were lazy enough or bored enough to start every single message with "Anton, Anton, Anton," for "Achtung" , the German equivalent to English Morse code "Alpha". As Sherlock remarks in Scandal, nothing new under the sun!
