Whereas it looks utterly Sherlocky to me! Hounds, or maybe HLV. One of those ones where he's wearing the white shirt. And where his collar's turned up so he'll look cool.

Aha!  Original photo is indeed Sherlock, from THoB.

Production photo, I'm thinking? Maybe that's why it looks more like Benedict than Sherlock to Carol; he's sort of in character, but not actually performing?

I looked through some more of that blog, I can't get over how different he looks from project to project. Stuff like that amazes me.

Adorable pictures of Sherlock and Sherlock

And I didn't expect Ben being the taller one.

Apparently Johnny Lee Miller is 5' 9.75"

I don't think I ever really noticed when I did watch Frankenstein.

Jonny's 5'9.75 except for the times he's 5'11".  I've seen everything from 5'9" to 5'11" for him.  It's the famous Elastic Tape Measure when it comes to actors' heights.

You saw Frankenstein on stage?  That would have been something.  I saw pictures of both actors in character for both parts.  I'm sure both were equally fantastic at either part.  My impression was that perhaps the most natural fit was BC as the Doctor and JLM as the Creature, if only owing to the fact that Ben's Creature seemed a tad too . .elegant, perhaps.  That would have been a great show.  Sorry to have missed it; I didn't realize until some years after the fact that I had missed this once-in-a-lifetime theatre opportunity and that only made it sting all the more.

Through National Theatre Live, I saw it at one of my local cinemas twice. Benedict was the creature both times.

Didn't I just see it was going to be released again? Orrrrr ... maybe that was BC's Hamlet. I'll see if I can track down the info.

I saw Frankenstein with BC as the creature at the movie theater and would love to see Hamlet, which was shown around the same time but had a much longer running time, four hours I believe.

I just checked and it's Hamlet coming in March and on a day that I'm busy :(

I'm envious.  We don't get National Theatre Live here in the sticks.  More pity me.  A friend got to see the NT theatre presentation of BC's Hamlet near  her and she said it was fantastic.

It appears to be modern dress.  Leastways, I don't believe they had sk8er hoodies at Elsinore in the 15th century.  Ben looks comfortable, but I thought I was seeing rehearsal pictures when that is actually his performance costume.  I don't have an issue with modern dress, exactly . . the 'traditional' Shakespearian garb 'was' modern dress when these plays were new . . but so-called 'modern' stagings can turn into a pretentious stunt if there isn't a clear rationale for why the actors are dressed a certain way.

If I have to be Hamlet for four hours of grueling performance, I'd just as soon not wear doublets and hose, either.

The costuming remind me of 1980s clothing maybe into a little early 90s.

Thanks Camper. The more I thought about it, the more I figured it must be Hamlet. Too bad, 'cuz I'd rather see Frankenstein again. :-)

True about the costumes. but it was quite a mixed combo.

What was announced this week - Andrew Scott's Hamlet will come to TV (BBC). I am really keen to watch it and compare it to Ben's. Somehow I have a feeling the last one might be better.

Oooo it'll be playing at the theater near me!  And I'm not busy that night!  I'm gonna book it.

When is that going to be?

Scotty's getting on the Hamlet bandwagon, too, is he?  I guess people never tire of this play.  We know AS can do 'intense' . . I think his 'manic disposition' will be something to see, all right.

There is a fairly wide latitude for the age of the Prince of Denmark.  Having been away pursuing higher education for at least 10 years, Hamlet, Jr. is not a true adolescent like Romeo.  If Hammie were in his mid- to late teens when he left Elsinore, though, or up to 20 years of age, that would put him most likely between 26 and 30 when he comes back home to Denmark.  Scott just turned 41 this year, but he doesn't look his age in character as Hamlet.  From what I could tell, this appears to be a modern-tech version of the play, with Hamlet standing in front of a huge bank of video screens.  Jessica Brown Findlay is Ophelia.  Hopefully the BBC will make this available on DVD. He has mercifully left his hair alone!
