Anyone here watch it?  I am only half-way through but I love it.  Very intense.  I love history and it is such a fascinating tale.  As to be expected, Benedict has done an amazing job and carries the whole thing with his performance.  His character is kind of a jerk, yet kind of lovable, arrogant yet naïve.  And nothing at all like Sherlock Holmes which I love.  I half expected to keep thinking of Sherlock during the show, but I did NOT and that is some big props to BC's acting.  So many actors can be so similar in role after role.  Benedict is like a chameleon...

I am still recovering from seeing his rather energetic "love scene". ahem.

Looking forward to finishing, but not looking forward to it ending.

Just wondering any one else's thoughts on it?  I would love to discuss it here.

I watched it a while back, very enjoyable, I do like a good sea adventure, you are in for a treat.

This must be a symptom of Sherlock Withdrawal Syndrome, I just finished watching it last night. Next: Van Gogh.

I liked the first section (Rites of Passage) best, I thought the script flailed around a bit after that. Mostly I just loved the physicality of BC's performance, he is a fun actor to simply watch. Wait till you see the "drinking in a storm" scene! Or any of his movements during the various storms, actually. Or any of his movements, period....

I loved it so much I had to own it.  Now it's in my DVD collection.  Too bad it wasn't filmed wide-screen.

Where are you seeing this production?  I'm sort of limited to  either downloading via ITunes or what's available on Netflix.  Netflix doesn't have a whole lot of BC's stuff.

Have you seen Parades End yet? If there's any television series I like even better than Sherlock, it's got to be that one...

Um... not sure whether I should be saying this, but the last time I checked, there was quite a lot of it on youtube...

This must be a symptom of Sherlock Withdrawal Syndrome,

Why yes Arcadia, yes it is.   ;)   It is actually my Step 3 in my 12-step plan in dealing with SWS (Sherlock Withdrawal Syndrome).  Step 1 was finding this message board for peer support.  Step 2 was gorging myself on a binge of Jeremy Brett's Sherlock (which was delicious and I heartily recommend it.)  So now Step 3 is watching everything Benedict Cumberbatch has ever done.  Best therapy ever.  :D

Not yet, but it's in my Netflix queue!

Er, em, *cough cough*  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aL3nIOZJDTs  nobody saw this, *cough*....

Your Netflix queue is apparently different than mine as Parade's End is unavailable for streaming.

Sounds like a good plan! Mine includes reading Doyle and chuckling and excessive re-watching of the nine (oh joy, no longer six) episodes I have of Sherlock.

By the way: This is the one and only time I have ever seen a character in another film and thought damn, I wish they'd get this actor on Sherlock:

I don't know why, but somehow, he looks to me like he'd fit right in...

Oh, I don't stream. Well, not from Netflix. :) I'm quite old-fashioned, I still shuffle DVD's back and forth with them.

Netflix has To The Ends of the Earth - the DVDs by mail, not for streaming.

Arcadia, I prefer to shuffle the DVD's back and forth as well.  For one thing, Netflix has so many more available that way than they do for streaming.  And for another, it's much more comfortable in my living room and they look a lot better on my 42" LED TV!

And I loved Parade's End as well!

It may already be doing that... :)

Me, I just went ahead and ordered it from Amazon.  I gambled that I would love it. So far so good!

Who is he?  The face looks kind of familiar but I can't place him.

Also don't forget your local library!  ;)  That is where I am getting all the Jeremy Brett ones.  They also have Parade's End on DVD but someone else has it out right now so I am on a waiting list.  (Okay which one of you is it?  LOL)

Yes, let's promote public libraries, the greatest institution in the world! Mine has The Last Enemy, Sherlock, War Horse, Amazing Grace, Star Trek 2...what am I missing? By now I'm sure they have 12 Years too. All free and legal. Woo hoo!

Maybe we should have this forum update every two years from the Sherlock forum to the Cumberbatch Forum.

... and/or *ahem* the Freeman Forum (which even alliterates nicely!).

YouTube is fine. Well, fine according to forum rules, anyhow -- if copyright holders happen to have any quarrel with them, I'm sure they're quite capable of handling that themselves (which is presumably why things sometimes disappear from YouTube unexpectedly). What we do NOT promote here is any method of misrepresenting oneself so as to "qualify" for access to restricted sites (e.g., by spoofing one's IP address).

I am ashamed to say the Parade's End was a ratings disaster here in Australia, it was well advertised staring Sherlock's Benedict Cumberbatch etc.  It ended up at 11pm on a Tuesday night and on one the lower channels, but the problem we have here in Australia is that we don't wait for television to come to us, we go get it, so perhaps that may have been the reason? All of the fans had actually seen it already, but I hadn't and  I loved it and like Benedict I really like Christopher, it was a really good fleshy role for him.

Can't tell you much, I'm afraid. His name is JJ Field and apart from "To The Ends of the Earth", I've seen him in "Third Star" and a BBC TV adaptation of "Northanger Abbey" (which is, by the way, the only film version of an Austen I know novel that I'd recommend whole-heartedly).

I liked him in all three roles, that's all I can say...
