I swear I've been brain-washed, this is the first time ever I've bothered to read this kind of stuff ...

And I've watched the Emmys for only the second time in literally decades.  :P  (Guess when the first time was!)

1967? '68? :P

Ha-ha!  :P   I meant the first time of the recent two -- it was 2012, when "Scandal" was in the running (and both Cumberbatch and Freeman were actually there).

And here I figured you were rooting for Leonard Nimoy to win an Emmy. I am disillusioned.

Srsly, I don't think I'd even heard of Sherlock yet at the 2012 Emmys. Maybe that's just as well.

The Washington Post confirms Sherlock had the most wins (and says it's "shocked everyone".... that just delights me no end and I don't even know why!)

I'm wondering when does Sherlock stop being a mini-series and actually become a series?

Well, yeah!  :llap:  But that was before all those decades that I mentioned.

Regarding why Martin Freeman was not at this year's Emmys, director Jamie Lloyd tweeted this from London:

Martin Freeman could have gone to the Emmys, but he stayed in London to do tonight's £15 Monday performance of #RichardIII. Brilliant man.

Now that's class -- refusing to disappoint the folks in the cheap seats!

Martin "Marty" Freeman was woken up in the middle of the night by a text alert from his agent, to find he had won his first Emmy award.  Then he went back to sleep:

Audio from that interview can be heard here:

These runner ups are the most obvious in their shock that I've ever seen @ an award show. In of the guys looked like his was struggling to even put a smirk on his face. It would have been good for one of the main actors to be there.

I hadn't noticed before that four of the six nominees were from The Normal Heart.  That may have been both an honor and a curse for them, splitting the vote and perhaps contributing to Freeman's win.  Similarly in the Lead Actor category, the two entries from the popular Fargo miniseries may have split the vote and contributed to Cumberbatch's win.

However I do not intend those observations to cast aspersions on their trophies.  There are always extenuating circumstances.  And a truly unappreciated candidate is never going to win.  Also, Moffat's script was up against the scripts for both The Normal Heart and Fargo, yet he won -- and I don't think he's any better at writing than Cumberbatch or Freeman are at acting.

What? I don't understand that last comment. Do you feel BC & MF nor Moffat deserved to win??

Um, no.  (Thanks for pointing out that my post was somewhat ambiguous.) I actually meant that they're all very good at what they do, so I don't believe that any of their wins can be chalked up as a fluke (even though certain external circumstances may have increased their vote margin just a bit).
