I hope this is on the right sub-forum (feel free to kick it somewhere right) and there is no similar thread out there yet.

 

The last fan community forum I joined has grown into a mess, it has nasty spirits, unwanted spoilers and interactions with less and less quality contents by the time I decided to leave years ago, even though I was mostly a lurker.

 

I think it’s different here; nice smaller community with good moderators (moderations/moderating?) and members which everyone seems to have great knowledge and passion for this show. 

No mush, when I say it I mean it.   

 

Hope it remains the same until the game is over. (Or the game is never over)

 

I believe that most of the more senior members have probably known each other well (?), but hopefully we can share a tiny bit of information, not very personal but kind of personal (you know, not underground network, but Underground Network).

 

On your own convenience and term, feel free to add more similar questions.

Mine in Italics.

 

 

1. Favorite board game

 

I can play Scrabble forever, card games or when I’m feeling dumb, maybe Snake and Ladder. (Will consider Operations!)

 

2. Bolt holes and do you need them.

No need actual setting. The descriptions will do.

 

I’m introvert and can be very anti-social sometimes. If I don’t have my personal-alone moment for a period of time (for example, long overstayed visiting family) I might go crazy. I also like to bolt when I’m in bad mood. So bolt holes are very very important to me.

My favorites are always close to the nature; green grass, underwater, lake, beach or mountain, somewhere quiet with open sky.

But if, if all those are not available, I seriously think Diogenes club is a good substitute.

 

3. Other hobbies

(except reading and writing, I would say anyone who join a forum love reading and writing to a certain level (lousy or not, it doesn’t matter)

 

Outdoor activities like mountaineering and scuba diving. Indoor activities like crafting and gardening.

 

4. Pet peeves

 

People who are pretentious.

People who are fanatic with anything (maybe except Sherlock).

 

5. Unpopular opinion

About anything, well, maybe not politic, race and religion. Not the right place, life is too short.

 

I can't stand Star Wars and Star Trek, especially when people refer them as sci-fi. Maybe I will make exception to peek at BC's Khan.

1.) Scrabble! Only nobody will play it with me.. Except my mom. She's the only one. Thanks mom!

 

2.) Yes! Luckily, my apartment counts as my bolt hole. It might not have reached the level of the Baker Street bachelor emporium in comfort and style, but it's a pretty comfy and very private place for me. At work, I am forced to lock myself in the bathroom if I want some peace and quiet...

 

3.) Writing, reading stuff other people have written and talking about it, running (well, jogging along at minimal speed with my headphones on and puffing like a steam engine), swimming when I get the chance. I used to dance, and I miss it terribly. Had to give it up because my insane working hours don't allow for any scheduled activity - it's impossible to make any kind of plans.

 

4.) A lot... I think what I really cannot, cannot, cannot stand is hypocrisy in any of it's forms. Most of my peeves boil down to that. For the rest, see the rant thread... :P

 

5.) I don't like Harry Potter or Star Treck (but if forced to choose between only those two, I'd go with Star Treck). Don't like superheroes either. Refuse to have a facebook account. Don't know what the purpose of life is, but don't think that "have fun" is all we're here for.

 

P.S.: Is cooking and baking a hobby? Because if yes, then put me down for that as well. Dunno if I'm any good at it, but I love it.

1) growing up it was trivial pursuit (which I need to unbury) I used to read the cards for hours on end in primary school. Now I tend to do more card games

 

2) yes, I take recharge weekends 2-3 times a year and have decided that I will gladly visit 1 of my 2 favorite Minnesota locations when possible for those weekends.

 

3) biking & painting (technically my job)

 

4) people who want tolerance then proceed to be intolerant towards a dissenting view.

 

5) a lot of my views would be part of the unpopular opinion and be attacked by people in number 4.

1.)  I'm not a huge board game person, but if I had to pick, probably Settlers of Catan.

 

2.)  I'm very much an extroverted introvert.  Meaning people tend to think I'm an extrovert (I guess I must come across as talkative and outgoing), but I truly need my downtime to recharge (like any introvert).   If I don't get my quiet, just me downtime I can get really cranky.  I don't really have a bolt hole per se, but can the internet be a bolt hole?  Mindless TV binge watching from my couch?  I guess both of those tend to be done in my house, so maybe my house is my bolt hole.

 

3.)  Other hobbies... skiing, gymnastics, hiking

 

4.)  People who aren't open minded to trying new things, be it food, movies, tv shows, books, etc. Along the same line, people who won't even consider another person's point of view and who dismisses dissenting opinions as "stupid."

 

5.)  I hate most games.  Especially interactive games like Apples to Apples, Pictionary, Cards Against Humanity, charades.  Those are all my own personal version of hell.  I'll tolerate and occasionally like your typical board and card games that are not so interactive (Settlers, Risk, Clue, Phase 10).  I HATE MONOPOLY.   :P

Backyard, my own rooms and nature with no one else around who whine for attention; for recuperation and re-centre myself. Heaven help anyone who dare to intrude when I am in dire need of peace and quiet. When mental shield in tatters, diplomacy and consideration to other people's feeling jump out the window.

Expanding knowledge and repertoire of skills (seriously).

Uncouth people who make an event / forum as their personal soapbox, forcing others to accept their opinion as holy words of God and want to be admired for it. This kind of people tends to tickle my sense of mischief and make it hard to resist temptation to toy with and ultimately crush them into finely ground dust. If those people also play simpering and passive-aggressive game then they will be relegated to 'attention-starving morons to use and discard when necessary' category. :p Edit: People who do something because they want to be praised and get angry when the intended target did not 'follow the script'. I despise retards like that.

Popularity and its opposite is only matter in how useful they are to achieve the intended effects and the following snowball of events.

I've never played the Sherlock version of Cluedo before, so maybe.... I love twister. I played it with some paint on the the other day. It was great fun!!

So since you were talking about socialskills: I'm not that good with that. Maybe that is why I like Sherlock when I come to think of it. I'm not THAT bad with people, obviously. But I need to be alone some amount of time every once in a while. I can be alone and study in my room for days with some good food and music. So yeah I'm introvert but once somebody knows me I can be very chatty! Most of the people think I'm outgoing. But the truth is: I'd rather be alone most of the time. Still not sure what bolt holes are. But I guessthey would be important to me.

 

Can a bolt hole be studing? I like that because smart is what I have. Smart protects me! *wink*

I often visit music festivals. I try to see as much of the world as possible. I like hanging out with dear friends and watching series. I love cooking and drawing. And I also play the guitar, piano and I sing (I sing ALOT, helps me think. Or not think at all. Which can be nice too!)

Being selfish. The world would be an infinite better place without the ego.

 

5. Unpopular opinion

All these countries got this problem going on with immigrants from all over the world. And everyone (in Holland, not sure about the others) seems to have a problem with them. They are talking about them taking our jobs and that kind of nonsense. But I really think it should not matter on which ground you were born: that's just a coincidence. The fact that I was born in Holland doesn't make it any more mine than it is yours.

I'm terrible at choosing favorites! But here's some anyway...

1. Favorite board game: Tripoly, Cranium, Pictionary, Facts in Five. What I like best though is card games. And I love Apples to Apples!

2. Bolt holes and do you need them: Oh yes, I need boltholes, as I am, like most of us it seems, an introvert. Anywhere out in nature is my favorite bolthole, and I have the good fortune to live near several major parks. But when that's not possible, I hide in my art studio with my stereo blasting.

3. Other hobbies: When I had one, playing with my cat. Jigsaw puzzles, reading, music, movies, hiking, photography ...

4. Pet peeves: Pollen. People who don't signal before they turn. And pretty much everything you all said above.

5. Unpopular opinion: I'm very political and most of my opinions are unpopular! :D Unless I'm hanging out with like-minded people, of course. Also I hate (most) of the music from the seventies.

2) Bolt holes and do you need them: Usually my bed room but don't spend much time there now. Now that it's warm I can go out onto the porch. Yes, I really do feel the need to be alone at times.

 

3) Other hobbies:  Music, mostly singing but I am getting back into the small Celtic harp, beach combing, being a professional pirate during the summer, reading, Celtic studies, comparative religion studies. and hanging out with my online friends.

 

4) Pet peeves: Drama, the daily human kind, making mountains out of mole hills, nitpicking, greed and the lack of compassion and empathy.

 

5) Unpopular opinion:  Since I am a student of world religions and the mystics, mostly of the Sufi branch of Islam, I hold that Islam is not the killer cult that the US media is trying so hard to paint it. That the Prophet Muhammad was not a terrorist and was a man of peace.

 

6) Favorite author(s): Tolkien, Conan Doyle, Rumi and Hafiz.

I don't have favorite, but I like some author for their specific works. Daniel Keyes (Flower for Algernon), George R.R Martin (The Song of Ice and Fire), Thomas Keneally (Schindler's List), Harper Lee (To Kill A Mockingbird), and although I don't like other Young Adult genre, actually like Suzanne Collins (The Hunger Game series).

1) Favorite board game: Memoir '44 is my very favourite, but I own around 250 super-nerdy board games and love them all.

 

2) Bolt holes and do you need them: It's difficult for me to clear my mind so I prefer to be alone with music blasting loud enough that it's not possible for me to think.

 

3) Other hobbies: playing dodgeball, reading, running, working, roaming the countryside.

 

4) Pet peeves: I don't really have any. Nothing annoys me on a consistent enough basis that I would call it a pet peeve.
