Sorry not that.

Clue: Not the year you mentioned, but you are right it's not current.

Early film projector or film reeler from about 1894.

Sorry nope.

It's a pity it's not 1895 eh?

But I don't think that really refers to the year of this product.

How about some sort of elevator?

Posted

Why, it's a Turing Machine! :p

No. Um... it looks to me like it's indoors, but there's a weird shape on the left that suggests the outdoors. Hm. Inside a museum, maybe? Something to do with generating power, perhaps? Or old telephone equipment?

You are right about it being in a museum.

I don't think it really generate power, and it's not a telephone.

Why, it's a Turing Machine! :P

When I was very anxious about ability to watch TAB on time, there was a bus passing by when I was walking. BC's face, gigantic, was in it. TAB style, sleek hair (not Khan's). I almost slipped and fell on my face because after various attempts of checking, you means they are showing TAB here?!?

I made a point to run a bit to see the bus and dang.. it's ad for Imitation Game. Yes! In December. Not TAB.

So did you go see it?

Museum ... so that implies it's either art, or history. It looks very "retro", so I'm going with history. The openings at the bottom make me think vents to release heat, so I'm guessing it's a machine that needs to vent heat. And all those little dials! Something needs a lot of fine tuning? Then on top -- tape reels? To me that suggests early computers, or something musical.....

Then again, why would tape reels have that oval-shape on them, instead of a nice round center? Because that's how you grab them and turn them? So maybe they're just bigger dials? And the dozen of little dials, maybe those are really holes where you plug in power cords or cables of some kind.....

And the cablinet appears to be made of very nice carved wood on top, but cheap, roughly cut wood on the bottom. Then there's a sort of catwalk thing going around the part with all the little dials, like a lighthouse .... but it doesn't look big enough for a human to walk on it.

So the bottom part is not part of the original device, maybe? Just housing for a generator or something ....

Wow. I was going to guess an early sound mixing board for a recording studio, but I've sort of talked myself out of that one! And it looks too old (based on the carved wood) to be computer-related. Something like a nickelodeon, maybe? But those dials ....

I'm still stuck on something to do with generating or regulating power. Or regulating something ...

No, it was an obsolete ad, for early December. The movie went down fast.

It's all a plot to see how willing I am to faceplant. (Oh I am)

I had seen it though, but maybe a bit too sad to see it again even if I had chance.

Love the deductions and thinking process.

Let me say you are close in some of your deductions, and way off in others.

But instead of confirming or denying them, another picture:

Could it be some sort of power generator that uses steam or something of that nature?

Posted

Is it a steam generator?

Is it a furnace or giant stove then meant for making large quantities of something like food or goods to be sold?

Yes correct, a furnace or giant stove, not to be sold, but meant to serve big amount of food, used for army, mining workers and hospital back then.

Probably less but close to a decade ago.

It's German made.

I was a longggg way from getting that. :/ But I was right about it being both indoors and outdoors! :bouncy:

So what are those big round things on the top part? I can't imagine a function for them.

Posted

Actually I'm not sure, wasn't there myself. But looking from the circulation this could be something openable for access or ventilation.

The process of thinking is equally important and interesting. And keywords, you mentioned venting heat, generator, catwalk which are all important information and observations.

Please go ahead Camper.

Oh, I think all the time! In circles, mostly. :p

I don't really know California's planet anatomy.

But you don't have tail to chase in circle right? :p

Posted

I thought so, but every time I turn around it disappears, so I'm not sure. :p

Sorry for the delay.  Guess what it is and what it is made out of. Then after that is solved, I'll try to remember to tell the story behind it.  (Oh and johnspec is not allowed to guess as he should know the answer already having seen it.)

DIng, ding, ding. You are correct Arcadia.  I knew it would probably be easy.  3 brothers build a snow sculopture in their front yard every year for the last few years.  Last year was a sea turtle.  They have also done a shark and a walrus.  The middle brother goes/went to my alma mater and they live by a friend's house so I got to see it a week ago while under construction when it looked like a snow globe in the making, then Saturday when it was all finished, and again this Saturday (my friend happens to be a hair dresser & I've been playing chauffeur).

So.... it's cold somewhere in America!

Okay then, what can you tell me about this item?

It's cold in Minnesota.

That thing reminds me of a Thin Mint cookie turned into one of Sherlock's science experiments. Is it a gold coated Rice Krispie treat?
