The big news of the day to me is that three months to the day, Sherlock series 3 filming returned to North Gower Street.  The following link is a Radio Times article on the event.  Of course, Carol and I are disappointed that Benedict Cumberbatch didn't come out and interact with fans while we were there back on 21 May like he did today (perhaps he was in a more relaxed mood today considering that series 3 filming is almost done now).

You also can see some neat fan photos from the Twitter Setlock page:

Hopefully we'll be back at North Gower Street during series 4 filming.

Just thought I'd check something, because I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere on the forum yet...

Erm... you are all aware of the teaser trailer, right?

Oh good! :D I was worried for a second there; thought you were all missing out on the one and only bit of juicy series 3 footage there is :D

Here are more articles from Radio Times on yesterday's North Gower Street filming and Benedict Cumberbatch's political message:

And here is an article with Spoilers from the Daily Mail:

We wish we were there.  Were any forum members there who can describe their experience? :)

Just had a look at the Daily Spoiler link that Alex added to his post.  Neat photos, though some of the text is questionable.

As Benedict and co-star Martin Freeman –  Watson in the hit show – idled beside a black cab, hordes of fans gathered in nearby York Street in the hope of getting a glimpse of the two actors.

That's Euston Street, guys -- don't believe the prop sign!  ;)

Several of the comments noted the same error, plus a few other factual slips.

From Sherlockology:

The final clapperboard slate for Sherlock S3, © Sue Vertue via Twitter - a slow motion shot to end filming!

Principal photography has completed today in Cardiff on the third block of scheduled filming in Sherlock Series Three - mostly comprising S3E3: His Last Vow. This brings to a close all filming on the long awaited third series of Sherlock, which began five months ago in March 2013.

Filming for S3E3: His Last Vow was once again concentrated in locations in Wales and London. Earlier in August the filming on North Gower Street attracted without doubt the largest crowds of the entire production of Series Three, and is shown spectacularly in the image below from @Haroon Mota, taken from an overlooking window at University College London Hospitals.

S3E3: His Last Vow, written by Steven Moffat and directed by Nick Hurran, will now enter post-production. The previously shot episodes - S3E1: The Empty Hearse and S3E2: The Sign of Three - are already deep in post-production, with composers David Arnold and Michael Price currently recording the music scores as picture and sound editing and mixing continue.

At present, no premiere airdate for Sherlock Series Three has been or can be confirmed by the BBC or Hartswood Films. As post-production continues the definite airdate will likely become clearer, so stay tuned to our Twitter and Facebook accounts to be the first to know when the long awaited news is finally announced.

In addition, Sherlockology can promise several pieces of exclusive content to come - while we have not been reporting on news of filming as it happened, it doesn’t mean we have been idle. We have been present several times throughout the production of Sherlock Series Three - including a private tour of the studio and set of 221B in the past couple of weeks - and have collected plenty of new and exclusive photographs and stories to bring you all a unique and indepth look at the experience of filming the new series of Sherlock in the future.

A friend we made on set - look for more pictures and reports in the future!

Thanks for posting that link, bborchar!  Quite a bunch of photos there, and only a few that I'd seen before.

I guess you'd call this an official spoiler (though actually more of a teaser, I think):

Gatiss told press that the London Underground setting for restored Who story The Web of Fear was his inspiration in writing The Empty Hearse, episode one of Sherlock's third series:

Asked by Kastaborous, "Do you think we're overdue for a return to the London underground in Doctor Who?" Gatiss replied,

"We are due a return to the London underground, in fact, the first episode of Sherlock is - because I am obsessed with the Tube and I think it all comes from that story [The Web of Fear] from when I was a kid - is explicitly about the London underground for exactly that reason, because I love The Web of Fear.

[You can read the rest of the story on Den of Geek.]

And regarding air dates:

Sherlock's second season started airing in Britain on Jan. 1, 2012. They didn't announce it until Dec. 9, less than a month before the episodes were set to star airing.

[see the rest of that article -- and they make some interesting / humorous points -- on Fashion&Style.]

Radio Times quotes a new cast member on being in Series 3 (no spoilers unless you don't want to know who's playing who):

“We were at Mark Gatiss’s house when The Hounds Of Baskerville first came on the telly," she recalled. "Afterwards they went into the kitchen and were sitting talking about the next series. I went in and sat with them. It had been mooted that I would be in it, might have a little part in it. They were talking about who might play Mary and I was like, ‘So, who are you thinking of?’ and they said ‘You’.”

"I remember doing a scene very early on with Martin and Ben, and I was standing in between them and I thought, 'I really have to up my game, this is proper'. They really bounce off each other," she told The Scotsman.

Speaking of Amanda, I recently theorized that her presence in the North Gower Street filming on 21 August "broke the ice" between the cast and fans and was a big reason why Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman went out of their way to engage the fans.  This photo from Setlock appears to support that theory.  I really hope Amanda is still in the cast for Series 4 when we hope to visit the UK and see some more Sherlock filming at North Gower Street.

Sherlockology has posted a couple of pictures they found on a Chinese website -- which may or may not be the official artwork for Series 3:

Alex just found this RadioTimes article from early September.  It's too tenuous to call a spoiler, so call it -- hmm -- a rumor?

Lara Pulver, who played dominatrix Irene Adler in the season two of Sherlock, has hinted that her character might yet make an appearance in the forthcoming series of the detective drama.

“I don’t think I said you wouldn’t be seeing me,” she teased with more than a whiff of Adleresque enigma when asked if she was going to feature.

See the rest of the article here.

Confirmed by Sherlockology:

We’ve confirmed with the BBC that the above images are indeed officially created material from Sherlock S3, both originating from a brochure handed out at the media industry event MIPCOM 2013 a couple of weeks ago.

This follows a similar pattern of the appearance of art for Sherlock S2 following MIPCOM 2011, as we posted here two years ago.
We’ve been told the top image is not, however, the final iconic key art for Series 3, which will be revealed in due course in the future.

Still on Sundays over here, then.

And surely the BBC won't show it any later than that.  I'm gonna place my bet on December 29th (or January 5th) for the BBC premiere.

The latest from Sherlockology on possible UK airdates:

We can confirm any UK airdates you see for October or November are most definitely false. Post-production will be ongoing through November, with composers David Arnold and Michael Price working on the music for S3E3 until at least the middle of the month.

The BBC cannot and will not schedule or announce any UK airdates until they have taken delivery of the completed run of three episodes, and even then the airdate will only be set in stone around two to three weeks before broadcast. This is standard practice for any BBC programme (with the completely unique exception of the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary special).

By way of example,  Sherlock Series 2 had its UK airdate announced by the BBC in mid December 2011, ahead of the premiere on January 1 2012.

We’ll be keeping everyone up to date on the progress of post-production and the eventual airdates as and when information is provided to us by the BBC and the production team.

So, factoring in the American airdate above, it sounds like "The Empty Hearse" (*groan*) will most likely air in the UK sometime between mid-December and mid-January.  At least that's considerably less indefinite than "eventually"!

Oops -- did somebody forget to film a scene?

Filming6Dec13Huh_zpsf5e8306a.jpg

Alex came across this today.  Someone will apparently be filming something at (or very near to) #187 North Gower on Friday (December 6th).  Maybe a promo?  Last I heard, Martin Freeman was in Alberta filming Fargo (though he may be in LA tonight for the Hobbit premiere), so it seems highly doubtful that John Watson will be in this, whatever it is.  And with the entire third series already delivered to the BBC, they could hardly be filming an episode -- so I'm guessing Sue Vertue won't mind me posting this.

Just file it under "Huh?"
