So far, there hasn't been much said about anyone in series 3 except Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. We've learned of one guest actor, Tomi May, and some doubt has been cast upon Vinette Robinson's return as Sally Donovan. Let's just hope that all the familiar faces will be back!

Same goes for the fourth series, unfortunately -- Cumberbatch didn't mention anyone except himself, Freeman, and Moffat. Fingers crossed for the rest!

In addition to our earlier Meet the Directors piece, we can now EXCLUSIVELY confirm thanks to Hartswood Films’ production publicist that S3E1 will be the first episode shot in the production schedule of Sherlock Series 3, and it will be directed by Jeremy Lovering from March 18 2013.

This is the first time the first episode in a series of Sherlock has been filmed first in the production schedule. Yes, that’s a lot of firsts.

Series One saw S1E3: The Great Game open the shooting schedule in January 2010, while Series Two began filming with S2E2: The Hounds of Baskerville in May 2011.

We (The UK) could be in for a Christmas transmission, according to Benedict Cumberbatch, Here (Minor possible spoilers in the theoretical musings contained within the padding of the article, the meat of which is a one line soundbite from Cumberbatch)

Posted

"I think they're talking about the winter [to show it]. Around Christmas but I'm not quite sure when," Cumberbatch told RadioTimes.com.

Isn't it amazing how they can write a full-screen article from just that one sentence?

Well, shucky-durn! Hubby and I were hoping to buy the Region 2 DVD as a Christmas present for his nephews. OK, maybe a belated Christmas present?

Ditto all of the other regulars. It's hard to imagine Sherlock without Una Stubbs as Mrs. Hudson, or Loo Brealey as Molly Hooper, or Vinette Robinson as Sally Donovan -- or especially without Sherlock's arch-enemy, Jonathan Aris as Anderson! (I am blithely assuming that Mark Gatiss will still be available to play Mycroft.)

Not sure where to put this, but here's an audio interview with Benedict Cumberbatch at that awards ceremony. According to Sherlockology,

Listen to Benedict Cumberbatch being interviewed yesterday, Tuesday 12th March, at The South Bank Sky Arts Awards regarding Sherlock Series 3 and beyond! (approx 10 minutes in.)

And here's a link direct to The Custardtv, where the MP3 is actually posted.

I think things are being kept deadly silent with regard to who is in it and what is going on. If it wasn't for his tweeting, we wouldn't have known about Tomi May after all. That tweet was removed, obviously cos he wasn't supposed to say anything. Rupert is filming White Queen at present, a ten week drama from the BBC set during the Wars of the Roses, but not sure when the airing date is or if he's still filming. Might be he's not in the first episode, but might join later. Here's hoping.

I think it's safe enough to assume that virtually all of the regulars will be back. It's just that they're keeping a pretty tight lid on things. Tomi May posted about his participation in the first episode -- but then removed that post. Benedict Cumberbatch has rephrased his statements regarding a fourth series. Clearly, nobody's supposed to be talking.

At this point, we can't be sure of anything, so we might as well assume it'll all be wonderful (which is probably close enough to the truth)!

We’ve just heard from Sue Vertue that to mark the start of Sherlock filming tomorrow, we MIGHT find out the title of S3E1… So stay tuned!

Posted

I just hope that when they say we "MIGHT" find out the title, they mean that either we will find out or we won't find out. I don't really care for the way Moftiss will sometimes tell us something, but then add that they might just be joking. C'mon guys -- you don't have to tell us anything. So please -- either tell us or don't tell us.

We've already been told that the episode is based on "The Empty House." Half of the episodes to date have titles that are a play on the original story's title, so there's presumably a 50/50 chance of that in this case. Any guesses what the title might be?

Posted

So far only episode to actually echoed the Canon tightly in title was, "The Hound of the Baskervilles" the rest have been variations of the Canon titles, as in "A Study In Pink" for "A Study in Scarlet" and so on....so is it "The Adventure of the Empty House"..or something like the "Empty Flat" as someone posted on Facebook....it's really hard to second guess these people which is probably what they want.

The first rule about Sherlock filming seems to be "Don't talk about Sherlock filming! ;)

The cat is out of the bag. Episode 1 will be entitled:

"The Empty Hearse" :D

Or not!

For anyone who may not have noticed, Undead Medic has started a new thread wherein he officially revealed the title -- well, a title, anyhow -- so we can do any discussing of it over there.

Series 3 filming has begun! Here's Sherlockology's announcement:

Today marks the long awaited start of principal photography on Sherlock Series Three.

To mark the occasion, the title for the opening episode of the new series - the first to go before the cameras - has been announced this morning.

Sherlock S3E1: The Empty Hearse

Written by Mark Gatiss, Directed by Jeremy Lovering

The title was revealed on Twitter by Mark Gatiss. Sherlockology was alerted to the impending announcement of the title for the opening episode by Sue Vertue last night.

Filming on the new series began early this morning in Cardiff.

With the start of filming on the new series, Sherlockology has a couple of promises to repeat for our readers:

- We will never reveal ANY plot spoilers for the new series ahead of the broadcast of the new episodes unless they are officially sanctioned for release by the production team.

- We are not able to publicise any location filming that we may become aware of ahead of time due to issues of confidentiality, and the possibility of impacting the work of the cast and crew. Large numbers of people standing in a crowd have the potential to affect the filming, and we will be trying our best to ensure the crew has a minimum of disruption.

With that, all there is to do now is watch, wait and continue to become excited! Good luck to the cast and crew!

Let's see if this works:

@olparker1 Very good thanks. You? Just off to Cardiff to start filming S3. Here's hoping your inflight entertainment options are tip-top. xx

6:15 AM - 21 Mar 13

Not too bad for a Twitter illiterate like me. If it's not clear from the above, Louise Brealey tweeted that this morning (Thursday) at 10:15 GMT.

So Molly is back! Yay!!!

Posted

Of course, the way things have been going lately, I'm half expecting another tweet from her today -- "Oh heavens, did I say Cardiff? I meant Coventry, of course. We're here making a film called S3...."

But if not, the confirmed cast members so far are Cumberbatch, Freeman, Brealey, and presumably Gatiss.

I hope they're filming inside. Not sure what the weather is like in Cardiff, but in Liverpool (which rarely gets snow) we've had white stuff falling out of the sky since the early hours of the morning and it's been causing havoc. Cardiff can have similar weather, being a west coast port and all.

Posted

According to Intellicast, Cardiff was expecting rain today (Friday), with a high in the 40's. Bit cooler tomorrow, with a mix of rain and snow. I guess they're sufficiently further south to make a difference.

Oh, good, we now have something besides the weather to talk about -- from Sherlockology:

Another Tease…

Not long tweeted by Mark Gatiss: End of a great first week. Easter resurrection a bit early…#Sherlock

OK, all you neck fetishists have something new to drool over. (I assume that's Sherlock's neck.)

And I may have guessed right on this:

One ... thing I suspect we'll see is some vaguely Easter-morning imagery, continuing from the self-sacrifice theme (and the Sistine Chapel moment) in "Reichenbach." Or am I just seeing things?

Thanks once again to Sherlockology, we have This is Bristol's spoiler-free report of recent location filming in Bristol -- Undead Medic & Banshee, any chance that you were there?

Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch films in Bristol

THE stars of hit TV show Sherlock braved the cold to film scenes for the much-anticipated new series.

Portland Square was the backdrop last night as Benedict Cumberbatch, in the title role, was filmed in front of what appeared to be a large bonfire for the third installment of the crime drama, which is a modern update of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes detective stories.

There's more at the This is Bristol link above, but nothing else that we didn't already know. It would sure be nice to know which "stars of the hit TV show" were there, other than Mr. Cumberbatch, but as the article says, the BBC is very tight-lipped about what's happening.
