  1. Me three! But "small" is a relative term. Some of our regulars are tied up with real-life situations right now, so things were sometimes just a bit *too* cozy until this recent batch of new members came along. And I must say, you folks are very welcome! Even when things were really humming with discussion of a new series, this forum has rarely had more than a few people on at a time, largely because members are spread across so many time zones. (We tried having a chat room, but no one ever knew when anyone else might be in there, and it was finally closed.) I find it useful to think of the forum as more like email: I go online, read the new posts, and respond -- then next time I go on, there may be responses to what I posted before. Right now we're in kind of a lull as regards several of the usual regulars. For example, one is moving to a new place, one is a health-care worker busy with the current epidemic, and one is on the road a lot these days. I would expect them to be back sooner or later. In the meantime, we can all make a point of actually posting the things that we think of posting -- they don't necessarily have to be Sherlock related. Just as an example, if you see a person doing something peculiar, you could post it and we could try to figure out why they might have been doing that (which really is Sherlock related, in a way). There's some truth in that, but that's where new members can really help. As I recall, most of the recent joiners have watched the show recently, so they presumably have questions, comments, etc., which can be posted on the appropriate episode's thread, or in one of the general Sherlock discussion threads, or in a new thread. In fact, there has already been some activity of that sort, such as the recent discussion of Eurus in the "Lying Detective" thread. And even if some of us aren't quite ready for a rewatch at the moment, any of us could take a peek at some of the older Sherlock-related threads. Surely something will spark a question or a comment that we can post (along with a quote of the original post. of course).

  2. I may have to check this out. I discovered JJ Feild in TURN: Washington's Spies (A VERY GOOD SHOW, btw!! currently on Netflix) as Major John Andre and really liked him in that. If he plays a morally ambiguous, messy character, I'd probably love the character (see: Loki, Ben Solo).

  3. Resident "Sherlolly" and Molly stan reporting for duty. 😜 I really like Irene as a character, but when it comes down to the two of them, I'm Team Molly all the way. Molly just feels like a more real and relatable character to me. As far as ending up with Sherlock, I think it's pretty unlikely we'll ever see Sherlock with anyone, but if they did go there, I'd have to agree with Benedict that it would have to be Molly. While I definitely think Sherlock is attracted to Irene and finds her interesting and exciting, there's an undercurrent of danger to Irene (similar to Sherlock, I think they have a lot of similarities), and I feel like any relationship between them would probably be mutually destructive and undo a lot of the character development we see in Sherlock over four seasons. That whole great man, good man thing. I disagree that Molly is too timid to call Sherlock on his BS. I thought the show did a pretty good job of showing that Molly always saw Sherlock for what he was and was never afraid to call him on it. This started in season 2 with the very cringey holiday party mess. This gets reinforced across multiple seasons, from the slaps some people despise to John Watson himself saying in Season 4 that Molly was the one person who was able to see through Sherlock's bullshit. It's likely just my own biased opinion as a shipper, but I thought it was interesting the speech John made to Sherlock at the end of TLD, presumably about Irene (for John), but for me that speech wasn't about Irene at all. Especially in the context of the very next episode with Sherlock thinking he's about to lose Molly, the "I Love You," and then the subsequent coffin destruction.

  4. You're not misremembering. I just hate both decisions for multiple reasons. I was trying to figure out how I might explain my reasons, but I'm not sure how to do so in a reasonable length post, and I'm unsure of my ability to keep my emotions in check right now. I probably shouldn't have even addressed it at a superficial level; I just tend to jump at any chance to declare my hatred for this film. lol Mostly because it left me pretty devastated in December. ETA: Sorry if this is a non-answer for now. I just don't want to give an emotionally charged brain dump, when I think it deserves a more well thought out reply.

  5. "Lights Out!", a PBS documentary currently available on Amazon Prime. Discusses how light affects our health. Very interesting, some compelling science there.

  6. Sitty! It's good to see your shining face again! Ooh, never thought of that interpretation. John does have a habit of going for the obvious, I think (which is often helpful, because Sherlock doesn't). Yeah, he could just as well be talking about Molly.

  7. Major Hewlett was my fave! Love him. I didn’t like him much in the first season, but then he went and surprised the heck outta me in season 2. I agree. For me the first season was just good enough, and I mostly kept watching because the subject matter was interesting enough to give it a fair chance. I'm glad I stuck with it, because it took a turn (haha) in season 2 and just got better from there. It's unfortunate that the first season wasn't quite as captivating, it probably lost a lot of viewers who gave up too soon.

  8. People really don't know what they're missing out on with Turn. I've tried to get my mom, friends, husband to watch it and so far nobody has. I watched it originally for Burn Gorman, whose character I LOVE...Major Hewlett ♥️. But Simcoe was also fantastic, and Andre broke my heart. I think the first season of Turn is probably the slowest. Still good, but I really think it picks up steam from season two on.

  9. I don't think the forum will gain popularity unless the show sees a resurgence. I try to keep some of the general chat threads alive by posting pictures and such when I have time. But as far as the Sherlock-related threads, there isn't a lot that hasn't already been discussed at length by the members who still visit, and most of them don't seem to have any desire to revisit the show at this point in time. So I think it will be difficult to get people involved in those conversations again.

  10. Yes! I too discovered JJ Feild on "Turn". Love the character, love the show! I can't get anyone else to try it though, lol. (Also enjoy characters like Loki and Kylo for the same reason. )

  11. Did Doyle really say that? Other than in "Final Problem," they never left England, and even then they were merely traveling through Europe, not competing in any way against Europeans. Holmes may have described himself and Moriarty as "the world's greatest" (I don't recall), but that can easily be taken as meaning "the best I'm aware of" -- somewhat analogous to a kid saying "you're the best Mom in the whole world," or the competition between North American baseball teams being called the World Series.

  12. Might be hard, considering the lack of new episodes in the foreseeable future (or ever). Also, I recognize I may be in the minority here, but I kinda like it small and cozy.
