Can I run around going "aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" like Kevin in Home Alone.  Only have to wait 3.5 weeks to see it.  Unless I'm in one of the lucky 6 markets.

According to Wikipedia, the eight biggest cities (by population) in the US are:

1.  New York

2.  Los Angeles

... both of which already have the film, plus:

3.  Chicago

4.  Houston

5.  Philadelphia

6.  Phoenix

7.  San Antonio

8.  San Diego

... which may be line for the 12th.

According to Variety (finally, a reputable source!):

The slow but steady expansion will see “The Imitation Game” add six markets and between 25 and 30 theaters on Dec. 12. It will go nationwide in between 600 and 800 theaters on Christmas Day.

Good grief. Is this a common thing and I just never noticed before?

All I know is what that article said.  Trying to let the excitement build, or something like that?

Yeah, that's possible. Sigh.

That's how I feel.  (we could also use a sigh emoticon like we need a Mycroft one.)

Somehow "Mycroft emoticon" sounds like a contradiction in terms.... :)

It could always have a caption bubble with one of his smart remarks about goldfish, being the smart one, or something of the likes.

Even when it is shown in my country, I will have trouble finding a theater that plays the original English audio, and even if I do find such a place, there will probably be only one showing, and that on a day where I can't go because of work. So I'll have to wait for the DVD. I want to see this film. Even my mother is hyping it.

Downloaded the script and read it. Hoping the movie comes to a theatre reasonably near me (hoping not the Uptown part of Minneapolis as parking is nuts there) come Christmas.

There was some emotion while reading it.

So looking forward to this movie, not reading the script or looking at any more clips! Wanna be a blank slate when I go in to see it..... (but I saved the script to read later. )

Read the first couple of pages, but don't want to know what to expect from the movie.  So cool to have the script available, though -- still hoping Moftiss will follow through with that for Sherlock.

having not written screenplays for many years, it was nice to read one again.  Always interesting to look at another writer's style, see what descriptive things they are getting away with now that they didn't used to.  That's not a criticism, btw.

Gahhhhh, enough, I'm sold, just put it in the theaters already!!!!!

Does anyone else think Harvey Weinstein must be related to Moftiss? Moftisstein!!!!! It lives to torture fans!!!

As much as I'd love to go by the 8 largest cities Carol posted, as that would put Philly in the next 6 markets, I'm not sure it will go down like that.  Philly tends to be largely forgotten on the east coast, just like poor Baltimore.  To hear the news and weather, the only major metro areas from the mid-Atlantic to New England are DC, New York, and Boston.  Also, Philly is only about 1.5 hrs from NYC. I would be surprised if Boston and DC aren't in the mix, especially Boston.  Chicago I can definitely see.  Atlanta?  How is Atlanta not in the top 8 population-wise?!   Maybe Houston, but I don't see San Antonio;  it's not that far from Houston, 3 hrs. maybe?  Denver?  Seattle?  San Francisco?  Phoenix?

If we go by Wiki metro areas by population it would be:

1. New York (already there)

2. L.A. (already there)

3. Chicago

4. Dallas

5. Houston

6. Philadelphia

7. Washington D.C.

8. Miami

(Atlanta is 9 as far as metro area population)

I went to see this film and it was very good. Benedict played the role of 'Alan Turing' very well but my own personal feeling is that it is not an Oscar winning film.

Do you feel that any elements of the movie are Oscar-worthy -- for example, even if it doesn't win "Best Movie," might Benedict Cumberbatch win "Best Actor"?

Benedict was good but I don't personally think it has the 'wow' factor.........I could be wrong. Benedict's friend, Eddie Redmayne, is portraying 'Professor Stephen Hawkings' in 'The Theory of Everything', and that looks like a very good film. The Americans are used to Hawkings as he's still alive and lives in America, so that could be a factor........

I feel childishly ill-disposed towards "the Theory of Everything" because BC did it first and no one mentions that .... gah. What am I, 12?

Well, weirdly, I found a theater in Maryland that is supposedly showing it on the 11th (?!), and another in D.C. that says it's opening on the 19th. Then sometime after that it will be in Richmond for a day .... WTF???? I'm beginning to think there's only like 3 copies of the film and they're just driving them from theater to theater.....

This page lists a few theaters that are either showing it now or will be soon:

Now playing

Los Angeles, The Landmark

Coming soon

Boston, Kendall Square Cinema

Chicago, Landmark's Century Centre Cinema

San Francisco, Embarcadero Center Cinema

Washington DC, Bethesda Row Cinema & E Street Cinema

Several other sites imply that more theaters will announce their plans to show The Imitiation Game as its December 25th release date draws nearer.

I feel vindicated.  Philly, the forgotten major city.  ;)

Hey, at least you're closer to DC than we are to Chicago!  :P

May I just point out that Bethesda is not, in fact, in DC, it's in Maryland .... and I only go to E Street at night when I'm in the mood to get mugged .... and neither of them are in Virginia, where I am! Nothing's ever in Virginia...... (grumble grumble)

I think they should change the name of the film to "The Waiting Game."

Can I be sad that 1 historical film (TIG) lost to another historical film (Pride).
