Reading about why we identify with fictional characters. An excerpt that echoes to my own experience is, " But if all of this empathising can be so easily predicted and calculated, then why is it that different people care more about different characters?

Well there are a couple of reasons for this. One is the fact that we tend to like people and things that are more similar to us. Again this seems to be an evolutionary response – the purpose being to ensure that our offspring are more similar to ourselves. Thus if you and your girlfriend watch a TV program, then the two of you are likely to identify the characters that are most like each of you.

Another factor is experience. Automatically when we encounter new stimuli, we will base our reaction to that stimuli on previous experiences. In short then, if someone in a game reminds you of someone that you have known in real life, then you may feel warmer or colder towards them automatically."

*peering toward Arcadia's profile picture* That must be because your shadow greatly resembles someone they knew. Your shadow have a second life as a disguise-artist. giggle-skype-smiley.gif

For the love of god..! Are you saying there is.. there is another one of that scary-looking-loopy-ear-teddy-bear?? :blanket:

I kind of agree with other things in your post the except this.

In a game, I don't hesitate to wipe the floor with a close friend, or ally with stranger to annihilate them if I need to. The closer they are the more I would laugh on their faces while destroying their troops. (On my first job long long time ago, sometimes we had down time and spent the time playing multiplayer strategy games)

Just like the closer I am with someone, the more I pick on them, I call that 'caring', my special heartwarming affection :p but I wonder why they don't buy it.

Oh, and the older I get, everyone actually reminds me of someone.

VBS! Glad you shows up! Quick, what topic could stir up some conversation here to combat the end of month hibernation?

We can talk about artificial intelligence or human stupidity. :p

I always fascinated with those two, but I need to get on with work now I had ignored them since morning.

You can go on with that first, I expect a newly invented smart robot when I come back. Ok? Deal! :p :cowdance:

Artificial intelligence and human stupidity, do you means like how thousands internet-based cctv networks were hijacked to perform denial-of-service attacks because they all have poor security measurements? :D

Impossible. I am one of a kind. :P

Whenever I want a dose of human stupidity I just watch one of those "home video" shows for about five minutes, that's enough to make me despair about the survival of our species for weeks. :P

Johnspec just laughs hysterically at those videos if I let him watch them.

You guys mean those videos where people hurt themselves stupidly right? Not those that meant to be funny or animal clips.

For those stupid videos Darwin natural selection would take care of them, actually they are not that bad sometimes because they hurt themselves, unline those who brings down a country or create wars or anything that result in other's harm.

But when I saw a video of stupid things people do on social media, and someone douse himself on fire, or 'hot water challenge' and there is nothing I can say that can express what is in my head.

That is not qualified because there are actually human intelligence and artificial stupidity involved too. :D

Today's musing: immersing myself in Sherlock's TGG mindset makes me feels like wanting to shake head really hard until I am too dizzy to think and instead become a creature of impulses.

Oh, you are just starting to do that NOW? Where have you been??

Avoiding getting roped to play Sherlock, but this time my luck ran out, means I am the only one deemed capable to pull it off. How wrong they are, the similarities ended on the sharp tongue and impatience with those who needs to be handled all the time with baby gloves. :p

Speculation based from the picture of Mark Gatiss, Amanda Abbington and Benedict Cumberbatch holding sign with Thatcher, Smith, Sherrinford' written on. What kind of glasses do you think would suit each of SHERLOCK's characters? Everyday, public appearance glasses.

But what kind of world is it when you are forced for a RPG? :p

Just admin that you like it. XD

I've never been into one, except a time when we were forced to do some 'advertisement' in a forced team buiding game, the script was horrible and as cliche as horrible romcom, everyone thought it's great, but I was too lazy to contribute idea and just wanted to get it over and done with. Hated every single second of it. Fighting tooth and nail to get out from those since then. But hey, that's me.

Because a lot of roleplayers either wants straight-out romance or slow building romance. A lot of them expect a dashing, non-conformist Sherlock but immediately run away when exposed to the spiky & acidic side of him. Our last roleplayer capable and comfortable playing Sherlock was in hiatus for at least three months and a temporary replacement is needed. Although now I am actively discouraging more of the Sherlock/OC, there's only so much half-asses attempts to be my Sherlock's equal I can take. :p Hope we would get more Sherlock players soon so both sides can entertain their juvenile fantasies with each other while I watched from the safety of the sidelines. Girls, not saying that you are a bunch of goldfish but in reality my version of Sherlock would never choose you as partner slash romantic interest even when the alternative is to be a forever bachelor in 221b. Neediness, playing 'games', too much touchy-feely and melodrama are major turn off! :p
