Anyone here have experience with Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Elements?  Are they somewhat idiot proof for a novice?  I'm fairly tech savvy and willing to play around to work things out, but am a complete photo/video editing novice.

Hang on, are you looking for image (photo) editing software, or video editing software? Photoshop and Photoshop Elements are the former, Premiere Elements is the latter. So you're a bit comparing apples and oranges.

 

If you're looking for video editing, I'm afraid I can't help; haven't even figured out how to make a video yet, let alone edit one. But Photoshop has earned its reputation, imo, I don't think you could go wrong with Premiere.

 

If you're looking for image editing, definitely all a novice (and just about anyone else) needs is Photoshop Elements. I've used both for years, and do not miss the advanced features of Photoshop for a second. I would identify myself as a frequent but casual user, and no that is not subtext for something else. ;)

 

To me it is fairly intuitive, and the "undo" feature has saved me from despair bazillions of times. Mostly I just experiment until I get the result I'm looking for. It can be very time consuming. I will say that if you do get stuck, the so-called "help" files are useless; you'll have to find an online tutorial or something. Not that there aren't plenty.

 

Depending on what you want to do, you may also want to experiment with some of the freeware out there; Picasa and paint.net come to mind as being fairly intuitive and full-featured, but definitely more limited than Elements. The Gimp is quite advanced by comparison, but really hard to learn.

Actually I'm looking for both, and if you buy both at the same time you can get a better price than buying them individually.  Photoshop Elements for photos and gifs, Premiere Elements for videos.

China is developing this massive gigantic gargantuan elevated bus to combat traffic and solution to mass commuting. Thoughts?

 

Thoughts; I don't know about China, but the way people change lanes on the highways I drive on, this looks like a recipe for disaster to me. Maybe if it straddled the entire road, but just a couple lanes like that? Eeek. I think it would be cool to be sitting in a car when it goes over, though, just for the experience.

The speed is slower compared to other vehicle though, but it's still possible for reckless cars to hit on them.

If it's energy efficient and lane controlled to prevent what you said, I think it's not a bad idea. There are some infrastructure to build like the bus stop (it's elevated too) but minimum compared to building new subway tracks or more roads.

Anyway, something weird happened I think two days ago. I did a quick read to the forum and found that the image I attached above, changed into a cartoon drawing of two characters, topless hugging each other. I was so surprised I checked Arcadia's post above that quoted me and included the image, it was the same.

I was in the rush so I couldn't fix it,
and regret not taking a screenshot because a couple of hours later when I had time for little peek it had come back to what it supposes to be.

Did anyone see or change it back?
I swear I saw it, it wasn't in my mind palace, it was bloody early but I was awake alright and I remember it happened back then.

The picture itself was a bit inappropriate, but not too bad, since it's cartoon and there was no other body parts beside backs, but I kind of worry if it happens often, accidental inappropriate images is one thing, but how if the images don't go with my posts? Those are big no no! :P

Wow, I didn't see that! I have had a couple instances where a different image briefly flickers just as the page is loading, but once the page loads the correct image is there ... so I just assumed it was some weird internet quirk. Similar file names, or something like that?

 

I am having trouble with avatars turning green, though. Always different ones, every time it happens, which is a lot. Refreshing the page doesn't fix it. It's a minor annoyance so I haven't taken time to troubleshoot, but I assume it's some bug in my new laptop or its OS, as I never had that problem before.

Actually, I take that back ... I just remembered, I did notice one time awhile back when the wrong picture or video showed up on a page. But I refreshed or rebooted or something (this was some months ago), and the correct image/video came back. So you're not the only one, at least.

For this one, it's quite alright because I know you guys had read my post so it's not me who posted the wrong picture.

So if in the future, there is a mixed up with my post and picture.. and now I can use this for excuse.:p

It's fairly easy to avoid the wrong-image problem by copying the image (the one you actually want) into your PhotoBucket account, and then hotlinking to that, rather than to the original source.  That way, you won't find that the source page has been taken down, either.

 

Using your own copy is considered polite anyhow, because if you hotlink to the original source, then any time someone loads that page of the thread, they're accessing that other web site, even if they're not even looking at that post.  I suspect this isn't as much of a problem as it used to be, but some hosting sites will charge their customers more if they get "too much" traffic.  I don't worry much about this if the image is on a corporate site, but if it's on somebody's blog or personal site, or a small-business site, it's safest to link to your own copy.

For image, I use image hosting website (maybe I should find alternative) I do have photobucket, but I'm not sure I remember my password.. Eh..

All right, it's experiment time - I took the liberty of uploading your bus pic to my imgur account, where no one is going to tamper with it, and changing the link in your initial post and the two times it was quoted (just for reference, the original link was http://i68.tinypic.com/i1zg5k.jpg).

 

If the pic stays a bus now, whoever had posted the original pic was screwing around with it. If the pic still changes for you, I'd check my computer, VBS.
