Oh, wow, a lot of new posters since I last stopped by. Hi everyone!

The short version of the story behind my username is, the poem Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening seems to follow me around through various phases of my life. I'm quite fond of the poem, it popped up at different points in my schooling purely by chance (an analysis on the final exam in English after I had already written reports on it in previous years - score!), and it's kind of a running joke in my family now that anything and everything Stopping By Woods be brought to my attention.

The avatar, I believe The Woman posted a few avatars back in the day, I asked for permission to use one of them as my own. I like purple already, but an avatar with the Purple Shirt of Sex... Mmm... Me likey. :3

Yeah, lotta new members lately!

I love that poem too. Let me think .... da-da da-da da-da da-da .... yes, I still know it by heart! (The unusual rhyme scheme helps.)

I'm Brainy because brainy's the new sexy, isn't it? ;)

And who's sexy? --> Benedict!

So that explains my avatar. :P:D

Hello! I'm brand new here, but I liked this thread so much, I thought I'd break my usual habit of lurking for months before posting.

My username is umqradenied. I thought John's little mix up about the true meaning of u.m.q.r.a. Was a little cute. And thinking of all the cabs he and Sherlock shared, and the u.m.q.r.a. That could've been. Seemed fitting of a name.

Hello, Umqradenied -- welcome to Sherlock Forum, and thanks for jumping right in!

I've been assuming that "umqra" was just a random sequence of letters (and Google didn't turn up any consistent translation for me). Do I dare ask what meaning you attach to it?

Posted

well, as John assumed it was morse code spelling out U.m.q.r.a. but then he walks up to where the lights are flashing and sees that it's a bunch of people...ahem, you know?....in parked cars with the headlights on, causing the headlights to flash what seemed to be gibberish morse code. Therefore, a group of Sherlockians have entered the definition of UMQRA in urbandictionary as having sex in a car with the headlights on, causing said headlights to flash gibberish morse code.

I think I blathered on too much there, sorry!

Hi all

My name is Eneath, it's what I use as my online name.

I got it out of a name generator when I was looking for a name for my WoW character and I liked it so much I kept it.

So nothing to do with Sherlock :P

Hi, Eneath, and welcome to Sherlock Forum!

You're not unusual -- there are several of us here with non-Sherlock-related user names. I'm like you -- I'm "Carol the Dabbler" on all of my forums.

Hope you're having fun here!

Hello. I am chironsgirl. I am now 49 going on 50. But way back when I was 13 I met the great love of my life, a horse named Chiron. I was taking riding lessons at the time, and he was the "star" horse of the riding school. Everybody adored him. I was 13 and ugly with it. I thought I was the dumbest most useless thing alive. Chiron would invite ME into his stall and cuddle me when I came for lessons. His kindness and concern made the crucial difference iat that time of my life.He made me feel special.

I don't think I will ever love a human the way I love that horse.

My name is elementary, I am SherLOCKED, and my dear Sherlock lives at 221B Baker Street, hence the 221. I aspire to THE WOMAN.

Yes, I have a thing for hands. I wanted a good shot of Shelock's and John's hands while they are cuffed, but couldn't find a good screencap of it...

Banshee I have thought about your HANDCUFFED plight and have found you this picture: http://cardboardram.deviantart.com/art/BBC-SH-HAND-CHUFFED-217339889

Also I shrunk it down for you.

You don't have to use it but it is an option!

It's drawn but you might still like it!

It's nice to hear you liked it, but I'm going to keep my eye out for some REAL shots of those hands you like so much!

For my avatar i just like what it represents. but it can be interpreted in many different ways so that all im going to say about that. As for my username, why dont you be a detective yourself and look it up! (its pretty obvious once you do) but i also use it for everything.

That's the problem with those teeny little avatar pictures -- I can't really make out what it's supposed to show, other than a humanoid figure, apparently crouching, holding something -- ? So I'll just think of it as your avatar!

I'm another one who uses the same name for all forums (I like the name, and besides then I don't get confused). Yours could be a smushed form of "it's like (e)lective amnesia" or "it's like (se)lective amnesia" -- with the latter being a standard term, but the former being more intriguing. It's definitely distinctive!

o my bad. didnt realize it would not have been possible to see. its a guy holding a camera, like a big movie camera or something, and what hes doing is hes bending down and trying to pick a flower.

and yes yes! ur quote right about it being its like elective amnesia mashed together but i was trying to ask, where does it come from?

Thanks -- I can kind of see that now (or at least imagine that I can). It's cute, the big guy reaching down to touch the little flower.

And Google tells me that "Elective Amnesia" is a song title -- I looked up the lyrics online:

And each day we are torn

Between the right and the wrong

Between life and convenience,

Why lose sleep? Why complain?

There's always channels to change.

It's like elective amnesia.

Pretty strong stuff!

Now I'm thinking that your camera-man and flower avatar looks familiar. Maybe it's just random deja-vu. Maybe it's a commonly used image? Wondering whether another member has also used it ....

Added: Oops -- different avatar now! Is there a story you'd like to share about this one?

It is a piece of street art by the guerrilla artist Banksy which appeared close to the Sundance Festival in Park City Utah in 2010.

Banksy, incidentally hails from my home city of Bristol UK, where he is somewhat of a cult hero, inspiring quite a sizeable tourist industry all by himself.

Its up to you, many people here use what ever image (or name for that matter) they wish.

Someone once commented that my Irene picture was pretty. I aimed to show her in a softer light.

Thanks -- I've been wondering about that! Good user name, though -- distinctive.
