Unfortunately, it's gone now. They took Smaug away about a month after the premiere of 'The desolation of smaug'... :(

Oh no! All my dreams are broken *she goes to a corner of the house and starts crying*

Maybe you can ask Weta Workshop to make you your own Smaug. :dragon:

Or you just buy this one....

https://www.elbenwald.de/Der-Hobbit/Der-Hobbit-Smaug-Raeucherfigur-p.html

I would like to have it, but unfortunately it's just too expensive (though surely cheaper than one custom made by Weta, haha...), and there's things I need more than a smoking dragon, haha...(like today I had to pay 50€ for an unexpected vet visit, because stupid guinea pig put a hay straw in his eye and had it injured with it.  It was not my regular vet (he'd be cheaper, and nicer...) but it's saturday, and easter saturday adding to that, so most vets are closed or on holiday, but still better than emergency vets and I didn't want to wait until tuesday, because I was not sure if it was dangerous or not....luckily it wasn't, but you never know. And he's one of my fave piggies, his name is Fili by the way, staying with the Hobbit theme here...and yes, he's got a brother named Kili! :D)

Lovely idea though, to make Smaug an incense holder!

While I was falling through the rabbit hole earlier today, I kept seeing references to LOTR/Hobbit fans hating Sherlockians. Does anyone know what this is about?

Posted

Huh  ? What do you mean? those pics in the funny pics thread? (They are funny, I just don't get the last picture, who is the guy supposed to be on it with Sherlock? and why is there the royal family on the first one? because Sherlock is english? I like the ones with Gandalf and Bilbo relating to the danger love of John Watson, and Sherlock holding the Hobbit up. :giggle: )

Why should Hobbit people hate Sherlockians? (if that made any sense, I must hate myself as I am as much a Hobbit fan as a 'Sherlockian', erm...maybe I am not fitting into the majority of it with that...? I don't care though, I like both the same, that's it, everything else is too much drama anyway :P ...and I am trying to be a chill person, discussions about fandoms 'hating' each other is stupid. :sofa2:  It's like football (for americans: the european one, I know you guys say soccer to that... :P ) fans getting into each others faces because everyone thinks their club is the best. )

Well, it doesn't make any sense to me either, that's why I was wondering if anyone knew what the issue was. I did see where one person posted a complaint about people who said they watched the Hobbit only because Martin and Ben were in it, but that seems like a pretty poor reason to dislike an entire fandom. Still, I guess people have developed hatreds of bigger groups for smaller reasons.

The last picture you refer to ... that's Benedict as Dr. Strange, being investigated by Benedict as Sherlock Holmes ... for some reason I thought it was hysterical. And the one with the royal family, I think the better question is ... why is Sherlock in their wedding photo!!! :D

And I watched Sherlock exactly for the same reason. :D

So you could dislike an entire fandom, you mean? Which one, the LOTR fandom or the Sherlock fandom? :P

I mostly watched Sherlock the first time because I liked Martin Freeman. All those Cumberbatch fans almost ruined it for me, though. They act like he's the main character, or something. :lol5:

Both of them *said with Mrs Hudson voice* :hudson:

I found the Royal Family photo funny for two reasons:  1] Mr. Cumberbatch is a known and "convicted" photobomber; and 2] the photo they used of him is from Sherlock's visit to Buckingham Palace.  (Oh, and 3] he's wearing only a sheet.)

Hehe, now I see 'Sherlock' in the picture, I have missed him hidden there first in the royal family....

ha, me too, I watched Sherlock first after I've seen the Hobbit (and I watched the Hobbit because I am a huge Lord of the Rings Fan, and now the Tolkien people can hate me since I haven't properly read the books... :P yes, and I knew Peter Jacksons films before LOTR by the way...he's just an awesome film maker!), because I wanted to know what else Martin Freeman does. Later I realized I have seen him already in a couple of films before, only didn't notice... But who cares, the main thing is we love the stuff, I guess everybody got different reasons to like what they like!

Oh, that's Dr.Strange in the last pic...then he (Benedict) probably looks nice in it, too. :D

Yes, it's strange, I also find fanfiction weird where people put actors together as themselves in different roles...guess it's a bit beyond my imagination.

Is that Bilbo? It looks more like Merry, somehow. Perhaps it's the youthful prancing.

Well, it's dressed like Bilbo and it's doing a very good Martin-Freeman-style silly. So yeah, I'd say it's Mr. Baggins himself.

Yes it's the young Bilbo as he's dancing with one of the gray-haired dwarves from The Hobbit and Merry didn't show up in that set of movies the last I recall.

So the word for tomorrow should be bebother?

That was my thought as well or just combine the phrase to make the word of the day.

Comment on the closing credits:

When they showed Freeman's full-screen credit, I couldn't help laughing out loud, because the drawing of Bilbo looks so much like this 2012 photo of Freeman (minus the Lego figure, of course):

Heaven knows what anyone else in the theater thought of my cackle!

I was finally able to find that credit page online:

... and have saved it to my computer.  Would normally have hotlinked from my PhotoBucket account, but well, you know -- so I've hotlinked to the source.  My apologies!

Anyhow, yup, that Lego photo was clearly the inspiration.

Me too -- especially with "The Last Farewell" playing in the background.
