You can blame Martina for introducing me to Honest Trailers.

Okay, I will! :p

My apologies if this is already somewhere on this thread, 500 posts ago!

Which Hobbit Character Are You?

Note:  This isn't one of those silly, meaningless quizzes.  It's a flow chart -- which means that it's scientific!

And it's so professionally done, too! :p

It appears that I am either Elrond or the Necromancer, depending on how you define "woods."

So, I was watching EV Hobbit 1+2, and at some moment I realized that I skiped the more boring pieces to finally get to Smaug. Then I took a look at Smaug parts from the additions. It is funny how our perception can change. I don't remember most of the parts with BC. Which makes it more fun to watch now. Watching Ben making MoCap is like watching some kind of... MacBeth on steroids. Epic, shakespearean, very theatrical.

Had to grin so many times: at Smaug's popped end-consonants, on Peter Jackson and others calling him a psychopath, about how he likes clever riddles and fakes politeness. Reminded me of someone. :D

Even Ben's face with the MoCap points on looks quite Sherlockian, and it is not only the hair. It is something about how his mouth forms words, as if he tried to bite and chow them.

I have to watch that, I can't believe I haven't gotten around to it yet. I've got the house to myself in August, I may just lie around and watch videos all day....

OMG, the second one ... that's even scarier than the actual dragon!!!!!   :o    Er, the virtual dragon. Whatever.

I love the smile when he hisses....

An accidental find: Martin in his festive attire at the Maori blessing ceremony before Hobbit shooting started.

Some men shouldn't be allowed to chose their own clothing.

Andy wears at least his working suit.

Can we blame it on Amanda being half a globe away in the UK so she couldn't correct his clothing choice?

As Mr. Freeman explains on one of the DVDs, the actors were told at the last minute that the ceremony was a serious occasion, so they should honor it by wearing something nice -- by which they apparently meant no holes in your jeans, but Freeman took it to mean actual dress-up.  I think it was very good of him, actually, to give it his best shot.  As the title hero of the movie, he was sort of the official representative of the cast.  But being ten thousand miles from home, he could scarcely run back for his favorite suit -- he had to make do as best he could with what was in his suitcase.

Yes, which makes it actually worse. Sorry for being mean, but it beats everything I've seen so far, and I have seen some of it as a fan of Viggo Mortensen, who's title of Dorky Dresser was well earned. :D

Whereas the rest of them, it would appear, made no effort at all! :D

Precisely -- he made a good-faith effort.  And it wasn't like he'd brought his "event" wardrobe along with him -- he was there to work (with costumes being provided), so the only clothing of his own he probably expected to need would be for travel and for casual weekends.

I'll be the first to admit that I don't entirely share Mr. Freeman's taste in clothing (especially hats), but in this case I definitely give him credit for putting together a somewhat-dressy outfit on short notice and with limited resources.

Clear your calendars this coming October! Extended editions of all three Hobbit movies are set to show in theaters over three  nights....

See details (such as they are so far) at TheOneRing.net, and note that this occurs a few weeks before the DVD release of Five Armies in the extended edition.

Mmmm, think I'll have to pass. Unless all the extended scenes feature the actual hobbit .....

Judging by the first two extended editions, many of the added scenes are indeed Bilbo-centric, so we're glad we bought those DVDs.  This is a chance to see the extended Five Armies before that DVD becomes available, so we may well go to at least that one.  Plus it's one last hurrah (or three of 'em) for the Hobbit-movie experience, presumably attracting about the same crowd that attended the midnight showings.

What I'd love to see is a fan cut like several people did for Star Wars I-III, Phantom Edit being the most famous example, I think (they took the best/most tolerable bits out of all three films and made a single one, which worked surprisingly well imho). Just one nice two-hour film with lots of Bilbo and only as much Elf-presence as they have to (can't believe I'm writing this ).

Why do you find that so hard to believe?  Sounds like a perfectly sensible idea to me!  In fact, I think Arcadia and I already discussed that very sort of thing here earlier.  Yes, here it is, from last December, with more in January.

I thought for sure I'd come into this thread only to find a discussion of Hamlet taking place .... :p

Soooo.... I may have to buy the extended versions after all, just to see more Bilbo. Confusticate and bebother these multiple versions!!!! :D
