I still like the vintage teddy bear! An art teacher who would have liked to become a pirate, who likes Deslock, we have a lot in common, except Arcadia is much more of a gentle person than I could ever be, as is evident by the posts.

Sorry!   :P  That'll teach you to give clues!

But now we can start a new game, guessing where you got your avatar!

Ahhh, sorry, but no story there I'm afraid. It's just a random picture I saw on the internet, thought it was funny, and grabbed it. When I decided to use it as my avatar, it was rotated, cropped, and voila.

Oh, wait, you can guess this ... what is it actually a picture of? Hint: it's an actual photograph, not photoshopped, of something....

You think so, eh? Bwahahahaha, I now have you where I want you ... :evilinside:

Shhhh, someone might hear .... I've almost got them lulled into complacency ....

PS, when is Mr. Crossedfingers taking over? Soon, one hopes.....

Really?!  I've been thinking it might be something you drew.

OK then, the head outline is a shadow of an actual head, and the "features" are just dark spots on the floor or the pavement.  (Though there do seem to be lines connecting the "eyes" with the "mouth" ..... hmmm .....   ..... and you did say "rotated" .... hmmm.....)

Very close (but don't overthink it! :) ) Correct on the shadow. On what surface, though? Try again on what made the features.

Cropped and rotated only because there was a group of them, and the one I chose would have been upside down otherwise.

It's actually quite clever but simple, and anyone could do it given the proper location ....

Guess who saved it, rotated it and is now staring at it....

Is the surface sand?

Yes it is. What made the face?

Aliens...

No?  Not aliens?   Uh, crabs?  That's the only thing I can think of that burrows in the sand like that.  Unless... aliens.  Aliens that look like crabs?  Crabby aliens?

This is kinda a fun game... analyze the photo...

It's not a natural phenomenom, but it's not THAT unnatural!

So, what do we know so far?

It's a shadow of a person

On sand

With holes representing the mouth and eyes.

Who made the holes? Who would do such a thing? Where could they do such a thing?

Well... technically anyone can dig holes in the sand.   :P

True. Okay, technically then, this time YOU win the no-prize!

Your award is the original photo:

True, but those are odd hole.  Sand exists in a number of types of places, such as deserts, beaches, golf courses, and sand boxes -- so holes could be made by tent pegs, beach umbrellas, golf balls, and kiddie toys.  But I haven't yet thought of any holes that would be likely to occur in that pattern, especially with the apparent lines between them.

I bet you have now. :D

   They were made by people drawing Sherlock in the sand?

I'm leaning toward something that has one main pole and a couple of stabilizers, such as a post with guy wires.

The edges of the shadow are nice and sharp, so there's no huge distance between the shadow-casting head and the sand.  The person is presumably standing right over the holes, just the way you'd expect -- which tells us the approximate size of the holes.

You say there were several such patterns -- with this one upside-down at the bottom of the original photo.  So the large holes were presumably arranged in a square or circle.  Sounds a bit like tent poles with pegs...?

Of course, no one has yet mentioned the additional shadows in the upper corners.

Carol, did you see the full photo Arcadia posted above?

Posted

Sorry, Carol, our posts overlapped each other! Glad I'm not the only one who has that problem.... :patpatpat:

You got the circle part right....

Oops -- thanks, guys!

Who made the holes? Who would do such a thing? Where could they do such a thing?

So -- ya gonna tell us?

Kids on a beach! Purpose of holes: making a silly photo ....

When you see your avatar start popping all around the forum because of posting frenzy to get away from real world.

And when you start dissecting a member avatar because you don't recognize it instantly (it's not from Sherlock)
