Dear TOBY,

Where's your famous common sense? If the pilot had gone on as planned, there would have been six episodes per season, we would have had our modernised Sherlock version complete and not gnashing our teeth at the teasing comments and inane utterances of one of the creators, we might be expecting another series, pleased, contented and satisfied! Instead, everyone is in a turmoil, writing, filming and production dates have become guesswork, and everything is up for grabs! Honestly, as Mary Poppins would say!

Well, heck, I don't think we'd be half so obsessed with this show if it didn't appear so seldom. Where's the fun in that? :D

"We" as in who?  :P  I am not gnashing my teeth much these days, at least not about Sherlock... And I am very pleased and satisfied with the series so far. Nervous about the next series, yes. That I am. But if I don't like it, oh well. The nine episodes I've got make a good enough finished product for me.

I don't really want to watch the pilot again, because (warning, insanity ahead): It irritates me to have two versions of the same story in one series. I do like to pretend, on some level, that what I see is real, and having the pilot as well as A Study in Pink kind of spoils that illusion. So I choose the one I like better, and that is the 90 min aired version. The pilot, for example, does not include one of my favorite bits: "What kind of result to you care about?" - and Sherlock gets in the cab. I just love, love, love that!

Oooh, I wish it wasn't so late over here. I'd go and watch A Study in Pink right now. That always makes me so happy. It's such a satisfying episode.

Really can't deny this because I actually watched Study in Pink 3 times during 5 hours flight last weekend. Oh damn, I hope that is not considered cheating. Because this thread is brand new.

Happy watching everyone.

Normal people and sanity are boring.

There's no cheating.  ;)  You can watch them ALL, MULTIPLE TIMES EVEN, OUT OF ORDER.

Count me in!  Since I tend to watch HLV between each and every episode, it might be good discipline to make myself watch them in the order that Moftiss intended.

Agreed

If I do out of order, my starting point is usually TRF then continue through HLV. Or I'll do TGG & ASIB.

We're doing just one episode per week, right?  Starting with The Pilot this coming Monday (the 25th)?

I just realized that I could easily participate in this, since it's not actually a group-watch, just loosely coordinated.  I could probably even watch with Alex, since he rarely objects to seeing an episode of Sherlock!

See y'all on the Pilot thread in a few days....  :D

I'm scared to watch the Pilot... I'm not sure I'm ready for this.  I'm afraid it's going to be weird.

Yes, I must 'fess that HLV is my happy place.  It has literally everything that I enjoy in fiction or a television show: comedy, drama, angst, a wounded hero, a near escape from death (twice!), a bromance, a baddie that really scares me, a triumph of self-sacrifice and total bad-assery from the protagonist.

But I'll save that for our discussion in a couple of months.  The pilot it is!  See you in the pilot thread!

Well, it's different.  But so much of it's the same that it's easy to compare the two versions.  You could think of it as a television show with young actors pretending to be the real Sherlock and John (the ones that we see in the series).  ;)

When was the Pilot filmed vs ASIP?

The year before, apparently.  But they do look noticeably younger, possibly due in part to their hair being styled differently.

So, we are all starting with the pilot this coming Monday and then going on to the relevant thread for an exchange of opinions? Perfect, although I wish I could skip the end of TRF for family reasons, but we are all a group, so if I get horrific mental images, the rest will be understanding! The game is definitely on!

Jadpdr, I don't think it will harm the discussion if anyone skips bits that bother them. Frankly, I've started skipping through most of General Chan's dialog in TBB, because she bores me silly.

She's rather dull, isn't she?

Since I suddenly have more free time than I apparently know what to do with (all my classes were cancelled due to students fleeing town for the holiday) I've decided I'm going to try to forget I've ever seen Sherlock before I watch the pilot ... even indulge in a little Jeremy Brett, Rathbone, maybe even a little Downey Jr. ... and see just how much of a fresh mind I can bring to the pilot. I don't know why, it just occurred to me this morning and it seemed like a good idea at the time.

That is all.

:p

My Sunday just got hijacked, and that's when I was gonna watch the pilot -- so I will try to watch it on Monday instead, and may therefore be late getting to the party.
