Not referee for sport match or kid's games.

Right points so far:

Related to lookout.

He is able to see a long way, he doesn't need to do it for a very long time.

Bare feet.

Not jet contrail.

Is he a guide? I don't know, safari guide or something like that?

Posted

The pole he's on ... does it move?

Posted

Guide? He is not, but that is not a bad guess at all.

The pole, does it move? Tecnically, it doesn't. Technically.

Clue: These two points you both mentioned are very good.

Posted

Is the pole on a vehicle that moves?

This is a longshot, but is he on the mast of a ship? Like, guiding a ship into port?

I assume your hair has grown back by now.......

Posted

Bahahaha.. grew back and well. I try to keep it that way.

But that is good! Yes, he is on a ship. But not guiding the ship.

I think it must be on the tip of your tongue.. :p

Posted

Maybe the ship is sinking and he's looking for someone to help them?

Posted

That means I would have something to worry about instead of taking pictures? I'm into documenting, but the camera would most likely be spoiled. :p

And if that is his job, he should consider switching captain, yes? XD

Joking aside, I do understand why you think so.

Once I was in the situation like that, with no better transportation but roofless small boat and encountered a storm. The boat was half in water and the wave were 3-4 meters higher than us. What I could think of was who should I get first, my friend who was very stressed out and shaking or a small kid who I don't know.. while securing camera just in case we survived and trying to see which part of the boat would be safer to cling onto. And there he was, a crew who did similar thing in the picture to look out for wave, wind, whatever to try and got us out from that.

Posted

So ... is he looking out for obstacles in the water? Like logs, or smaller boats?

Or maybe it's a fishing ship and he's look for their prey? Schools of fish, or a whale. (Nooo, please not a whaling ship.....)

Whooot.. god no..! I know I am not kind, but I'm not that bad..! You would see me up there speaking whale to ask them to run..

Anyway, after consultation with Bill Wiggins I decide to give it to you, because while it's not exactly what it is, you are right.

He is a whaleshark (close enough :p) spotter.

Once he saw one, the boat would go far in front of the shark (without disrupting it) and kick us to the water, then leave.

We would then swim to/wait to come face to face with the gentle giant.

No touching, just observing, and swim along or skin dive if you wish, only basic snorkeling gears are allowed. After it left the boat would then come and pick us up again. It would be very busy morning during their migration season.

Your turn..

You mean one of these?!! I didn't even know they existed! (I'm not very, um, water-compatible. In other words, I sink like a stone.) Amazing creature. Do they pay any attention to you, or just swim on by?

Okay, I have nothing at the moment, will see what I can come up with. (That's the problem with winning this game, you have to go find a photo!!! :d )

Yes, one of those. Biggest fish in the world.

I considered using this one for the question, but thought it may be too obvious.vhahc2.jpg

Basically they just ignore you, just swim by, after all we are so small compared to them. One of them actually decided to surface while I was swimming on top of it, just cruise by and unknowingly brushed the dorsal fin at my leg. It was just a very gentle move, but I got a very big patch of blue black for two weeks, their skin is rough like sand paper, but I don't mind having that kind of blueblack at all.

Although they are the gentlest giant, I's say it is quite a sight to see open mouth that easily fit you inside.

A sight I think I am content never to see. :d

Okay, I think I have one....

What is this thing?

Some clues:

There are 3 of these in a town near me, at strategic intervals.

They were installed in 1909. Before that, they were part of something else.

The upright supports are not part of the original function.

That's enough to go on, don't you think?

Posted

A century ago, made of metal, something important enough to display, must have some historical significance.

Is it part of a vehicle? Train or heavy war vehicle?

Or could it be part of important city infrastructure, a section of drainage system?

Posted

Frickety-frack, I thought this was going to be hard.

Part of a train, yes. That was it's original function. But which part, and what did it become in 1909?

Posted

Hey, where are all extra questions came from? That is not the deal... XD

Which part of train.. not sure what it's called. You know Thomas the Train? This could be the part where the face is, or the wheel of the train?

What did it become in 1909... hmm.. maybe a signage of some building? A gong... a hop through.. a milestone of a distance?

Posted

You're on fire!

Wheel, yes. Although for some reason they call it a "train tire."

Gong ... yes, of a sort! Remember, there are (or were) three of them around the town; to what purpose? (It's Super Bowl Sunday so I get to ask extra questions.)

Ooooh, I just realized I left you another hint just now....

I had the thought of something similar to the ranchers dinner bell.  But with the mention of the Super Bowl, I wonder if it has something to do with the Washington Redskins and winning the Super Bowl as they did in '82, '87, & '91.

Posted

I am not familiar with Super Bowl.. but does it have something to do with stadium? You mentioned certain interval..

(I think I'm not right..excuse: I don't want to get burnt..!:))

Posted

VBS the Super Bowl is the championship game for professional American Football known as the National Football League.

I meant I didn't know many details that could be related to the question, also the teams and all. I am aware that it's a sport event and Nipplegate. XD

Thanks for the info Camper.

Oh, soooooo close.

Ak! No!! I think I led you both astray with my "clue" remark. The clue was in the first sentence, not the last one.

... Nipplegate. XD

:lol5:

(Do you know, I sat right through that -- watching a friend's large screen, HD TV --  and never saw a thing. Yawn.)

I assume it has something to do with making sound, and interval.. what does a town needs about three of them at an interval..something that exists since a hundred years ago.

It must be a public place... a church? Ding a ling, bell, sound maker for a church?

Posted

A bell, but not a church bell. More, er, urgent.

The intervals are so it can be heard all over town, because they have to summon ........ ?
