Time for another look and then I must find my bed; I know it's around here somewhere....
mvm4h0.jpg

It looks like some sort of spongy material underneath the thing with the holes in it.

Is it a sea sponge? Underneath something with holes in it? :p

Okay, the thing with the holes in it ... if it's not paper, plastic or styrofoam, what the heck is it? Natural or man made? It sure looks man made ....

Posted

I see... won't Alistair try to eat it? Because that what my dog would do with a hair tie.

Not hair catcher. Yes, its original place was in my kitchen. Note that I am not saying that it was supposed to be there on the first place. ;)

Not a sea sponge. Part of the processes involves something with holes. It is man-made but incidents of such thing forming naturally in nature also exist, although not necessarily in that particular shape.

A giant fungus? When's the last time you cleaned your kitchen? :p

Something that exploded in the microwave?

My cats ate hair ties too, unless it was those big bunchy ones. Little stinkers.

Oi! My kitchen is not a biohazard-producing facility! :p

No microwave harmed nor involved in the making of this.

That's the wonder of pets. Unappetizing hair ties gets confused for a string of yummy noodles or what?

Oi! My kitchen is not a biohazard-producing facility! :P

And why not?? I'm disappointed..

Okay...is this some kind of Nonwoven 'fabric',

or 'fibre' absorbent polymer that turn liquid into hydrogel?

Used for various hygiene related purpose, sound bbarrieror even layer for landscaping.

Because I have dogs who are way too expert on getting into places that they are not supposed to be, including atop of tables. :p

No and no but it is squishy.

Posted

Squishy, huh?

Bill Wiggins' arm?

Posted

You said squishy..is it puffy too? I need it to stick on the wall where I bang my head because I don't know what it is... :sofa:

Okay.. is it dome sort of acoustic material, some perforated plasterboard although I don't see that liquid could change its physical characteristics.

What about something called Blue Pe absorbent cellulose that is normally used for food.

Or those absorbent control pad made from hydrocarbon for spilling or hydrocellular dressing for wounds?

I'm sure it's wrong because some counter the clues but I have nothinh else right now.

Is it thing common?

Posted

Billy Wiggins is still in possession of a complete set of arms.

No

No

No

I've been told that it is common in certain part of the world (read: Asia).

I've been told that it is common in certain part of the world (read: Asia).

Well, that doesn't really help much...!

Hmmm hmmm.... the only clues that are usable that it absorbs chemical in a way and it's common in Asia.

I am really taken aback with changing form and physical texture. Do you need specific knowledge in certain field to know what it is?

It's not edible, and used to be alive long long time ago, and could be found in nature. I don't think nature creates that circular perforated pattern, yes, nature has a lot of geometric pattern but I had never seen that, so this is the man-made version, in nature the pattern would be different. It had been mentioned, but not in exact. Sea sponge? I just read crazy thing about sea sponge; there are tampons made from sea sponge. It probably doesn't sound like it's making sense, by apparently sea sponge it's soft when it's wet and can hold liquid so it's actually make good and green tampon with good sterilizing etc etc.

What differentiate Asia compared to the rest? Beside food, culture, I would say the nature and wildlife and greener way of life, purposely or not. Nature could mean the animal and botany. While sea sponge exists almost everywhere, the other natural useful thing in everyday life that is more associated with Asia is....  bamboo?

Bamboo is used as material source of many products including inedible products.

Is it the right way?

Posted

;) I said that I won't eat it, not that it is inedible. "Parts of it used to belongs to living being," is not the same with "It used to be alive long long time ago."

You only have to Google that knowledge, no special education necessary.

You are right about the shape. I know the sea sponge that you mentioned and I cringe at the thought of such coarse material touching our private part. That sea sponge when dry is better utilized to scrub your extra dirty pans than going 'there'. Not a sea sponge or bamboo but you are on the right direction here.

The part at the bottom still looks suspiciously like a sponge to me. Not a sea sponge, but is it a man made one?

Or maybe it's foam rubber? Hm, I don't think foam rubber changes shape, though, unless you melt it. Or sit on it.

Absorbing .... hm. Is that what it's made for, though? Or does that just happen to be something it does?

Is it something useful?

Why don't you want it in your kitchen? Does it smell bad? Is it headed for the trash, or the recycling bin, or maybe the compost pile?

Posted

Man-made in the sense that it needs someone's help to form that particular shape.

Not a foamy rubber.

d^_^b That just happen to be something it does

Yes, it is useful.

I put it myself on the kitchen, I wanted it there. Not my housemates though. It smell... unique. It would not heading toward any bin or recycling facility until I am done and doesn't need it anymore.

So, it's something you are making, then?

Not to eat ... not to absorb things even though it does ...

Some sort of art project? You're making a mask that looks like Sherlock so you can sneak onto the set?

Posted

Yups, it is the result of my attempt to create something like that. ^^

Art project to sneak into Setlock? That's a good idea. Let's see... Black hair with reddish highlight, brown eyes and height... think I'll create an Andrew Scott costume so I don't have to wear high pumps just to match the height. :D

So the thing with the holes in it -- is it a mold for the material underneath?

Maybe the holes are so the material can dry?

Something like a mask. But with a practical use .... Huh.

???

No

I begin to remember an old game; someone will decide an object without telling what is it then the others begin to guess it. The scale range from very hot to very cold with closer to the correct answer marked as hot and farther is cold. On this system you are very cold right now.

@Arcadia... oi! How many times are you going to torture that bunny?

One more time and I would call Bluebell to the rescue. :P

@Shadow

I have looooogn thinking process but I don't have chance to write them and it's too messy anyway. So I just post my bad guesses.

Bad, because I still can counter every single one of them, those clues are 'paradox' to me.

Data, data, data!! I can't make bricks without clays. (Still haven't read books, but I know Sherlock's quotes. Oh and, I can't make bricks with weird clay as well..!! (Pass me the bunny, I need to knock its head to the wall.

so:

- Skin??

- insect house?

- tensile?

- egg crate/similar/papier-mache

- wrap medicine/bandage/medical plaster

- artificial knee cap??

- internal part for speaker, insulation, geotextile

- electricity part, conductor..

- cheese?

- taxidermy?

Posted

Sorry, no for all of them. But one actually is fairly close to the principles of the building processes.

Hey not fair not fair..why don't I get hot cold treatment... :P

Question:

When the answer is finally revealed, would I "ahhhhh I should have known." Or "what the fish is that. I better go and read about it."?

Posted

Here it is. Most are colder than Jim's nickname for Mycroft except one, which is lukewarm.

Based from the data of your previous 'mysteries to solve' on this thread you probably would say the first, "ahhhhh I should have known." ^^

This is the way I feel right now. Deal with it.

No time to think the next few days. :(
