I have one to post that I'll do once I'm on my computer after our wonderful thunderstorm.

That's just one edge of the whole donut you're seeing in the photo. The middle part is in my tummy. :D

Here's one for you.  Tell me what's up with this image I found online (not including the 2 black blobs).

Several of the images of the cars are very distorted, or only half there. A timelapse photo, perhaps? But the "compromised" cars are all at one end, which seems a bit unlikely, and it looks like a truck is in the driving lane ... why isn't it distorted? Unless it was parked there.

Almost looks like an attempt to Photoshop some of the cars into or out of existence. An unfinished digital image?

Location-wise, it doesn't look like retail. From the size of the lot, I'm thinking something more like a rec center, or library, or maybe a professional office. Could be retail, though, if it were something very specialized, like a carpet store.

How am I doing so far?

I don't know what's going on, there are a lot of smudged/weirdly partial cars. At first I thought it's blurry because they are on the move, or because the image is patched from multiple images. But then again, some suspiciously have missing shadow, and some cars have weird proportions, also there are one or two smaller parking lot.

Either it is horrendous manipulation, there are accidents or it is horrendous computer rendering?

Posted

It looks like there was a lot of rain and some cars partially drowned.

Posted

Location: not retail/business nor library or rec center. It is public otherwise.

The compromised cars are it all at one end, just mostly at one end. There are a few on the bottom end of the pic.

As for the rendering: I go with horrendous manipulation, poor photoshopping.

So let's see if we can get location, then I'll do my reveal of what I call it.

Also no rain, all cars are in some state on the pavement/asphalt.

Now that I see it in the light of day ;), it looks like the whole thing is a digital image. Is it a small part of a larger image? I'm wondering if it would spell out something if you could see the whole thing.

Location: not much to go on. There's trees and landscaping, so it's probably not a big metropolitan area. But there's pedestrian cross walks, so it's not in the country. Small towns don't usually spend that much on landscaping. So I'm guessing small city, or suburbs.

What kind of building .... some kind of professional service? Doctor, lawyer, accountant, that kind of thing? Print shop? Gallery?

Posted

Nothing professional just public for the location. It is in a major metropolitan area. (I've been there before on more than one occasion.) It could be considered part of a larger image I suppose. It would definitely give away the location if there was more to it.

Posted

Church or school? No, both would have a bigger parking lot, methinks. Day care? Gov't office? Ticket office for a concert venue?

Posted

Nope, nothing government, religious, education, nor concert related. A concert could be held there but everything would have to be carted in including the sound system.

Posted

Community center?

Posted

Nope, the thing that looks like part of a roof isn't even for a standard building.

Posted

Ah. Is this a park, perhaps? And the red thing is some sort of tent, gazebo, umbrella? It's casting a shadow, that's what makes me think it's part of a roof. Are you involved in planning for another Camper Concert?

Posted

Yes, this is a park that butts up against the Mississippi River just north of the confluence with the Minnesota River. It's called Minnehaha Park and has Minnehaha Creek flowing through it. The pic is a screen shot from Google Maps of one of the parking lots by the main picnic area of the park. I dubbed the picture "Proof that MN melts in summer" because of the cars that looked like they were melting into the pavement. And if you find the name Minnehaha somewhat familiar, it's in the Longfellow poem The Song of Hiawatha. Minnehaha is the wife of Hiawatha in the poem and is otherwise fictional in comparison to Hiawatha who actually lived. And no, I'm not planning any concerts there. I will be at a music festival about 30 minutes from there this weekend. I was there to photograph Minnehaha Falls in the 90+F heat.

Your turn Arcadia.

So let's see the falls! (I love waterfalls.)

Okay, see if you lot can figure out what these are.

They look like the plastic pots plants come in from the garden center only painted.

Posted

They look more like colourful buckets.

Posted

Yes, they are painted. Only parts of them are plastic. Mostly they are metal. Not pots or buckets, and they're not in a garden center. The way they are painted has nothing to do with their function, that's just to make them look cute.

Posted

Those are cute! You painted them?

It looks like they tend to be close to the ground, and the size is not that big. So it eliminates my first guess, bin.

Mostly metal.. are they garden outdoor light casing? Light for path, landscaping.

Or is it waterproof electric socket, although they are mostly made from plastic. There are tiny parts and details that make it look like it has some kind of flips, which most outdoor sockets have.

Posted

Sorry, busy week, plus I sort of forgot it was my turn... anyway, VBS, yes, exactly ... outdoor sockets! Although how you deduced the flips is beyond me.

I painted the one on the left. There's several of them, painted by different members of my art group.

Upon further reflection, I think you might be right ... parts are metal, but the parts you see are mostly plastic. I think, it's hard to tell because they're so thickly coated in something that looks like varnish. (Before we painted them, I mean.) But the legs are definitely metal. Whatever any of that means.

Your turn!

Yay! Don't get big-headed! :p because I like the one on the left.

@flip I was suspicious with the dark bar that look like some hinges system, and on the right images there are details camouflaged by paints that look like it is a hinges, for something with a top flip.

Will try to think of something.

Oh, I see now. Yep, that's exactly what those are.

How do you like this one?

I like the eyebrow XD but not into the color. I guess I imagine it would turn dull quite fast under the weather and it doesn't stand out too much yet it's different.

It works out great when it's totally striking, different or when it's blended with surrounding all together, not something in between.

But then again I run the risk of you calling me a critic, snatch my violin and clonk it onto my head. Sigh..:p
