But the rest of the equipment in the other photos ... those are making whatever this little thing goes in, right?

Yes.

When the item is finished, does it have moving parts?

Yes.

:)

Not sure if those mean that you are going to right direction, or they actually confuse you more, or you still and always feel like throwing brick at me, or combination of all.

I always feel like throwing a brick at you, but it's usually subtext.

Based on the size and shape, all I can come up with is pencil sharpener. Or maybe a ball joint, but for what, I don't know.

Posted

Let me know so I can catch them, they make good makeshift barbeque pit.

Not pencil sharpener or ball joint. Don't forget the shape of things in last picture is what they use in the product with slight refinement.

So what we have so far, gathering them together could tremendously help with thinking process.

All pictures given are showing the processes of making this object.

The thing in last picture is an integral part of the object, not visible in the finished product, and finished product is not much bigger than that, mostly made from other materials.

Red is one of the common color printed on that thing, work as functional differentiation.

The object can be found at home or professional setting, but not everyone needs to have them.

It reminds me a bit of a ballpoint pen.

Fountain pen then?

Or maybe part of a mechanical pencil?

If I had one of these things in my home, would it most likely be in a specific room? I keep thinking it looks like something you'd find in a tool shed. A measuring tape? A magnet of some kind? Or maybe a kitchen item... a juice squeezer?

I admit the idea of different colors indicating different functions has me stumped. The only things I can think of that are color coded are paints and such. But this doesn't look like anything artsy/craftsy. Unless ... is it some sort of cutting tool? A rotary cutter?

Eh.. you get it right! :applause: Which one? :P

I didn't say different color indicate different function, but functional differentiation (different right :o) but I understand why you interpret it that way. What I meant is, they use different colors for functional purpose, in this case, for information about the measurement system, or for important/significant milestones.

Measuring tape!

I thought the pictures show/indicate the flatten shape of the mystery object, at the same time, the perceived size, width and length, which is getting quite specific. What is something flat, made of metal, with color coded prints on them?

The last picture, showing the core, sort of confirming the shape. With a little bit refining, as in rewinding to make it compact, the object in the last picture acts as retractor/spring/winder of something else. Together with clues/previous deductions that the object is not visible in finished product (the tape has a max point before you have to stop otherwise it would ruin the mechanism so unless it's broken product, one is not suppose to see the metal winder).

Object has moving part, used for private and professional setting, has something to do with various field, plumbing being one of them, of course plethora of other things could use its help as well.

Your turn! :P

I'll be danged. It never occurred to me what a measuring tape might look like inside. That was just a guess based on the size and shape more than anything. So there is some sort of printing process involved. Interesting, that was a good one. I just couldn't put all the parts together.

Okay, I saw this picture the other day and had no idea what it was until I looked it up. Which means everyone here will know what it is right away, no doubt.

I would think Russian sage but the color is too pink (not as alarming as Jennifer Wilson's pink in ASIP)

Posted

I don't know that.

Is it micro LED lights? Or some kind of decorative light at the end of those pink stuffs?

It reminds me of certain kind of flower that I find a lot in the beachside, however, I don't think one would arrange those that way, and it looks a bit too uniform.

So decorative lights is my guess.

Posted

Lovely guesses, both of them. But nope.

The colors.. I have seen it somewhere, with the combination of the base color, which looks suspiciously like those perky sea urchin but sea urchin doesn't come with pink thorns.

Aha!

The uniformed look is too suspicious, it must be a man made object. That shape is caused by the purposely shaping it that way (that's why I thought it's decorative) but could also cause by it falling to the edges of something that contain the object.

I am looking at how a bunch of my pensils stay in the cylinder container in front of me.

The colors.. it seems very, too thin, but could it be those praying stick, incense sticks put upside down in some kind of container?

If it's not anything VBS said above, then I'm going with sparklers unlit.

Posted

*sigh* I knew it. Too easy once again. :p

Incense is correct. Although sparklers would have been cooler!

I made the same two guesses you two did when I first saw it ... some sort of bush, or some sort of fiber optic lights. But it's an incense factory in China. Pretty amazing photo, imo.

I entertained the possibility of microscopic view of animal skin as well, but the color gives it away.

I visited temples multiple times in the past, and everytime, I would get that pinky residues on my hands or my clothes. If you post different color incense, it could take much longer to guess. And they are very skinny though. Much skinnier that normal incense.

New one. What is this for?

I have feeling you guys will get it rightaway.

It looks like an old fashioned in house mail system. Put the canister in the tube and away it goes to the correct department (assuming you put it in the correct tube).

Reminds me of the inside of a soda machine.

Camper is right. :applause: That is old canister mail system that always fascinates me.

I know it'd be pretty easy for those who have seen it before.
