Is it for cutting fabric?

Posted

Is it for some sort of film development?

That box of widgets in the last picture ... is that part of the process, or the end result?

Define a long time. It can't have been that long, the technology needed to manufacture that kind of thing has only been around 200-300 years, hasn't it?

Not for cutting fabric or film development.

That box of widgets in the last picture ... is that part of the process, or the end result?

Part of process, and actually integral part of the object.

Sorry I forgot you are ancient. :p

Not that long, they only exist since about a century ago, but of course, not exactly the same as what it is now, as it has improved through the years. But function and concept look is still about the same.

It looks like it could be the process for making cans, specifically aluminum cans for pop.

Or spray paint cans?

Posted

Not can for pop or spray paints.

Clue: when I said the last picture is integral part of the object, I literally meant it's at the heart of it, with a little bit adjustment from what we see in that picture.

Well, that's what I thought you meant, and those things remind me of nozzles, so ... spray paint cans. :p But I knew it was a long shot.

I finally remembered what those little things remind me of ... steering nozzles on a spaceship. But the equipment looks a bit low-tech for that! There's something else familiar about them, but I can't pin it down. Do they fit onto something else? Somehow I think they should be twisted to open and close something. Camera lens? Nah ... again, the equipment in the rest of the pictures look too low tech.

The first three pictures ... do those show equipment making stuff that goes with the things in the last picture?

Good questions.

Yes.

I meant, yes, long shot. :p

Not like camera lens (twisted to open and close), the way they work is simpler, and yes, they fit into something else.

The first three pictures ... do those show equipment making stuff that goes with the things in the last picture?

Yes, in a way. With few exceptions. Let me borrow Trumpy term. :p

Mostly, yes to your question, in those four pictures, they show the process of making two parts of the thing, but at the end, everything fits together.

"Into" something else? Not "onto" something else? Oooooh, that's ... no help at all. :p

Is the red paint used to decorate this thing when it's finished?

Posted

*rub chin in movement as if I had long kungfu beard*

Hmmmmm... yes yes, your language's preposition confuses me, but yes, yes, it's into, not onto.

The red paint is not used for decoration only. It's functional for color coding and most likely there is other finishing to protect it.

Posted

Hmmm, red for danger?

Posted

Not for danger, more for differentiation for functional purpose.

Okay, when this thing is assembled, is it for everyday household use?

Posted

Could be.

But not as common as other household items.

Many people use it and own it, but I can think of many who don't feel the need as well.

Posted

I guess what I meant was ... is it intended for private use? Or is it more likely to be found in industry or science labs, etc. I'm trying to think of reasons why the end product would have different color labels on it.

Posted

Both. It's common for private use as well as professional use.

I didn't say the colors are for label though... unless you mean label is some kind of differntiation.

Posted

Aha.

The thing the little widgets go inside of ... is it made of metal too? Or some other material?

Posted

Other material :)

Eta. I saw some made of metal too, but it's not common.

Posted

Okay, that's unusual, isn't it? Metal inside of not-metal? That must mean ..... something.

Dang it, I keep falling asleep. I'll have to think about it later when I'm not so tired... :(

Posted

Just had a thought ... are we looking at part of some kind of fastener? Or maybe something to do with plumbing?

Posted

Okay, that's unusual, isn't it? Metal inside of not-metal? That must mean ..... something.

I don't think it's that unusual, there are a lot of examples in my head but I will give you just one :p, many construction stuff is like metal stucture and then wrapped/finished with concrete or other materials.

I sense you are hating me. :p

So another clue: although probably not the one that crossed your mind, it does mean something, that metal stuff you see in the last picture is not visible on the final product.

Just had a thought ... are we looking at part of some kind of fastener? Or maybe something to do with plumbing?

Not fastener.

Something to do with plumbing.. you may need it for plumbing, but not specifically. This product has something to do with a lot of other things too.

Just taking another look at it.

Part of a valve on a water tank?

Posted

Not that.

Here is good clue: the finished product is not too much bigger than that thing.

Posted

But the rest of the equipment in the other photos ... those are making whatever this little thing goes in, right?

When the item is finished, does it have moving parts?
