Cooool.

Has anyone ever "subscribed" to a YouTube channel? If so, is it worth it? Or can I just bookmark it and get basically the same results?

A bookmark would also work. I do subscribe to a few channels and when I'm logged in, they let me know which channels have new videos posted and how many.

Sounds like work to me, I'll just let you all notify me when there's something to see. :p

This new show, Limitless ... it's not bad, but I keep thinking the production team has watched a little too much Sherlock.... :) Text flying off the phones, rapid fire deductions, clever graphics ... they need to hire some actors who can enunciate, tho. I can barely make out a word anyone says.

Hi GodNort! Are you looking to buy, or to watch online? Or something else? My first thought for purchases is always eBay....

And the funniest comment so far is,

Maria Wang

So will we be seeing a male Irene Adler, “The Man”? Can they get Benedict Cumberbatch to play him?

Me:

Now I'm confused ... I thought that was what we identified earlier as a Korean show, and she had a male counterpart?  And someone said they've been watching it already... ?? Help?

Could be dubbed into Japanese from Korean, I suppose....

I don't think so -- this looks like a different one.  As you said, the Korean one has a male Watson / Lestrade.  Seems like Sherlocks are popping up all over the world right now!

But it looks like the same woman, and I remember that scene where she pushes her way thru that curtain, or whatever ... clearly, some more research is needed. For science....

Okay, partially solved ... the Korean version is called "Mystery Queen", and is indeed a different show. (But her name sounds like "Sherlock.") But I know I've seen the trailer for this Japanese version before now.... but I can't find it. Oh well.

There seem to be a great number of TV shows that follow in Sherlock Holmes' footsteps.  The Mentalist, Monk, House, Perception, Psych, Lie to Me, to name a few... Dirk Gently and Ghosted are a couple new ones that come to mind.  It's kind of amazing how much influence ACD's formula has had throughout the years, all the way up to our modern-day theater.  In that way he's one of the most influential writers of all time.  I hope he would be proud of that, if nothing else.

One of these days I really ought to read some of Poe's detective stories, just to see if they look like the predecessors to the Holmes stories that Doyle considered them to be.

I read Poe as a teen so it's been a while, but from what I recall, yep they do. Substitute the Mormon stuff and such with a dash of White Man's Burden (or take the orangutan as a literal ape, if you're feeling charitable) and you're there.
