That makes me wonder, if Joker/Moriarty 'loves' him, which I agree, does Batman 'loves' Joker? From what I've seen, Batman always despises Joker, in fact, I think Batman views Joker as 'lower' because he struggles not to sink to his level. However, I believe our Sherlock 'loves' Moriarty. There is obvious admiration and fun, he also sees Moriarty at the same level, knowing full well he is capable of doing what Moriarty does as well, if not only because he chooses to be on the side of the angel. One of these day, I think in S4, Sherlock would question his choice.

What do you guys think.. does Batman love Joker the way Sherlock loves Moriarty? Or maybe you guys don't see that in Sherlock?

I don't recall thinking Batman ever felt anything but disgust for the Joker, but I'm not that familiar with the more recent incarnations.

Does Sherlock love Jim? I think he loves the idea of him -- of having a worthy opponent -- and I think he's fascinated by his mind. But does that equate love for the man himself? Not in the same way he loves John, at least. He can trust Jim to be interesting, but he can trust John with his life and more. And I think he's been shown to be somewhat frightened by Jim ... or more accurately, perhaps, he's a bit horrified by the part of himself that admires Jim. So no, I guess love is not a word I would use to describe what Sherlock feels for Moriarty. I think I would choose "fascination." A somewhat unhealthy fascination, at that.

Color me amazed! Of course, the only Batman I'm really familiar with is the campy one from the sixties; I doubt if any of that was used in that version. Still, interesting.Huh. Now that I think about it, that makes Lestrade into Commissioner Gordon, and John Watson ... oh dear, Robin. Well, if the shoe fits... And Mrs. Hudson is Alfred. Irene would be Catwoman, I suppose. It all fits!

Hey, that's true. Except one important person, who is Mycroft? I don't think he is.. eh.. Lucius? Noone else though. But I agree with the rest. :)

Hmmm, good point. I have no idea who Lucius is, so can't argue with that. Mycroft would be more like the Morgan Freeman character in the latest versions than anyone else I can think of.

ETA: Oh. That's Lucius, isn't it? Okay then, Lucius is Mycroft! :D

From what I've seen, Batman always despises Joker, in fact, I think Batman views Joker as 'lower' because he struggles not to sink to his level.

Hmmm... to me it seems that Sherlock knows that actually he is on Jim's "not an angel" level. Even John mentions the possibility of Sherlock turning bad in his blog. Which makes me wonder why he chose the "good" side.

I've wondered the same thing, and decided it's his sense of honor; he thinks it would be beneath him to turn his talents to create chaos instead of order. Something like that. Which begs the question, where would he have gotten his sense of honor from? I would say it's simply bred into him, if I believed in such things. I'm not sure I do.

Free association: What if Redbeard wasn't his beloved pet, but a family dog that had to be put to sleep because Sherlock did something terrible to him? (I know, it actually doesn't fit with the scenes in HLV)

So Redbeard is actually a memento of Sherlock being capable of doing terrible things.

I think it fits with HLV just fine, and I think it's possible. What it doesn't seem to fit with, though, is Mycroft bringing up the name during the wedding. Let's see; Mycroft was goading Sherlock about John not being available to him anymore, Sherlock was assuring him he was fine with it, Mycroft accused him of being "involved", and that's when he reminded Sherlock of Redbeard; right? Which to me makes Redbeard sound like something Sherlock loved and lost, not something he loved and destroyed. But that's about as far as my thinking takes me.

Yes.. I mean 'love'; fascination, admiration, not the regular one. :p

And yes, of course, Sherlock is capable of going to the other side, I wonder why he hasn't yet. He would make excellent criminal.

Where is the angel side from? I believe it's personal common sense. He is not a psychopath, he knows empathy. He doesn't usually feel that because it hinders his work, but he is aware it's there, he is just (tries) not to be affected by it. I think he actually knows a lot (in detached way) that he is able to solve cases based on passion, empathy and other human 'shortcomings'.

Let's talk about broken heart.

It is possible to die from a broken heart.

34ziwir.jpg

It is called takotsubo cardiomyopathy, or stress cardiomyopathy, also referred to as “broken heart syndrome,” a condition in which intense emotional or physical stress can cause rapid and severe heart muscle weakness.

(First describe in Japan, hence the term,

Takotsubo is octopus trap resembles pot-like shape stricken heart.

This potentially life-threatening condition can occur following a variety of physical stressors (stroke, seizure, asthma, emphysema, and significant bleeding) and emotional stressors (grief, fear, extreme anger, and surprise.)

Unlike a heart attack, which kills heart cells, it is believed that stress cardiomyopathy uses adrenaline and other hormones to temporarily stun heart cells.

Wow. Caring really IS a disadvantage!

Maybe that's why Sherlock isn't a criminal; the results would break his heart. (And that actually came out sounding more profound than I intended.... )

It is. Caring IS a disadvantage.

That's what Sheelock and I have been trying to tell you. :p

And Mycroft.

Don't let those brothers hear you, they will gloat. Let me get all the gloating share. XD

And Russia, wow.

I hate to imagine the smell of subway before 2013.

Only in 2011 Russia President Dmitry Medvedev signed a bill that classifies beer as alcohol, the bill took effect in 2013. Before that, anything that contains less than 10% alcohol was considered as foodstuff.

I think it was the alcohol John was sneaking into the beer that produced the result above, wasn't it?

I think John wanted to sabotage Sherlock's plan and make him drunk. But he might have accidentally switched the uhm... vessels. And then things got a bit blurry... hicup.gif

I never was quite certain whose beer was supposed to get the shot.  I'm still not certain.  I can see it just fine either way.

They REALLY need to sell the official scripts.  (That would also settle the "I'm late for Cath" / "all right, be carefull" debate.)

And then we could all shell out the big bucks for that script, only to discover that line was adlibbed. :d

I thought John wanted to get drunk because he was so bored, and Sherlock was already halfway there because he can't hold his liquor....

Yep.. John is being so nice to endure that not-fun-at-all stag night :D.

And yes, I think Sherlock can't hold his liquor, luckily he is not a drinker, you know, that international reputation could bite him back in the a....

Not sure which one got the shot, but it's some kind of catalyst as beer itself is perfectly capable of making someone drunk, even with 'accurate' calculations.

I had never been drunk before, I don't know how it feels and what hangover is like.

First time I tested my limit long time ago, I was able to take 5 cans of beer and a glass of vodka (which is around 40%) without being drunk, I believe I could take more. But on other times I felt abit of funny after just a glass of beer, the other time puny amount of wine, and then I could hold feeling nothing for bottle of wine.

I'm not a casual drinker, I don't drink between those 'festive' times but for what I experienced, it's not consistent at all. I think it depends a lot with your body and mind, and habitual drinker would have much more accurate consistency, and the more you drink, the more you develop and increase the resistance. Imho.. :p

I have something else in mind but this is quite fresh news.

23rd August 2016, Pittsburg, Oakland neighborhood, a man tried to impress the girl he picked up from a club by jumping from one rooftop to another, they gained access through emergency stair.

1zxr67n.jpg

A 22 years old student named Grant Birdsong, was attempting to leap from shorter to higher building with approx 17inch gap. He missed, fell down three stories through the gap, stuck and suspended around five feet off the ground.

It took the emergency responders around four hours to free him, including paramedic rappelling down three storey gap to get to him and provide marking point of his exact position where the rescuers eventually broke holes in walls to get him out through Qdoba restaurant. He survived with broken ankle.

The street and several local businesses was closed during the operation. A note pasted on Bruegger's Bagel, next door to location:

Certainly Qdoba restaurant would endure couple of weeks to 'patch' the holes in the walls.

Personal note: I don't know which one is more embarassing tbh, that his effort is worthy of Darwin Award or he was confident but failed to clear 17inch gap? (0.43meter)

The universe is rarely so lazy, but when it does, it doesn't give a crap.

July 1975, 17 years old Erskine Lawrence Ebbin was hit and killed by taxi in Hamilton, Bermuda, while riding his moped.

Almost one year before, his brother, Neville Ebbin, also 17 years old then was killed by a taxi while riding the same moped. It was the same taxi driven by the same driver, and carrying the same passenger.

A man named Henry Ziegland broke off his relationship with his girlfriend who later committed suicide.

The girl's brother hunted Ziegland down, shot him, and thinking that he killed Ziegland, turned the gun to himself and took his own life. Apparently the bullet only grazed Ziegland's face and lodged to a tree, he survived.

Several years later, Ziegland decided to cut the tree down, it was a very difficult task so he decided to blow it up with a few sticks of dynamite. The explosion sent the bullet into his head, finally killing him.

Several readers noticed something from the front page of 2008 The Lewiston Tribune paper and alerted the police.

A man was shown decorating a store window for Christmas wearing blue and black flannel shirt clothing on the top article. Below that was a photo taken from surveillance showing an unidentified thief stealing a woman's wallet from a convenience store. Yes, it's the same man, Michael Millhouse. Busted.

I didn't know there was a Sherlock Trivia Tuesday, but here you go:

Sherlock #TriviaTuesday!
Did you know it’s technically illegal to hire a moving taxi cab in London?
The London Hackney Carriages Act 1843 states even if a licensed taxi has its “for hire” light on, the driver is only allowed to seek trade when at a standstill.
According to section 33 of the Act: “Every driver of a hackney carriage who shall ply for hire elsewhere than at some standing or place appointed for that purpose” shall be committing an offence, for which the current maximum fine is £200.
So why are taxi drivers not being prosecuted every day of the year? And why, indeed, do they have that orange light?
Because the police have come to an understanding that a moving taxi with its “for hire” light shining brightly is not officially “plying for hire”. It is only when the taxi driver pulls over to the kerb and stops that he is deemed to be announcing that he is available.

Ha.. that is very impractical, isn't it?

So Sherlock has been breaking rules XD, if I remember correctly, it is also illegal to yell 'TAXI!', I think the proper way is to raise your hand only. Geez, Sherl. :p

Of course he's breaking the rules, he's Sherlock!

Of course. XD

In a survey conducted in 2008, commissioned by UK TV Gold, with around 3000 respondents, 58% respondents believe that Sherlock Holmes is real, while 47% thought Richard the Lionheart is fictional, as well as 23% thought that Winston Churchill is made-up.

Oh, and I note that John's shirt is buttoned up all the way in that photo, too. Just in case Carol wasn't looking.

Sherlock has museum too! :p

I am wondering whether after BBC Sherlock aired, do the 58% finally know that Sherlock is fictional or is there an increase from 58%, means more people thought he is a real character now that he exists in current world and all...

*Buttoned up shirt? Oh.. insider joke about Martin? Moderator inside joke?

Posted

Not moderator joke, just joke by moderator. I commented somewhere recently that I had the impression that if John had his shirt buttoned to the very top, that meant he was sad or something like that. Arcadia has been taking great delight ever since, pointing out photos where his shirt is all buttoned up for no apparent reason.
